The magneto is driven: Electrically; Mechanically; Pneumatically. Theory Low B 1

The purpose of the alternator and generator is to: Provide electrical current to start the engine; Provide electrical current to operate the magnetos; Provide electrical current to recharge the battery. Theory Low C 1

Why is it important to check that the earthing wire for the magnetos is not broken: To ensure that the magnetos can be switched on by electrical current; To ensure that the magnetos will stop producing a spark when isolated; To ensure that you can isolate the electrical system in case of electrical fire. App Low An alternator is: a Battery An AC generator Charged continously by the battery Theory Low B 1 B 1

Whilst flying in the GF area the pilot notices that the left /zero ammeter is indicating zero. What could be the problem? Failed battery; The alternator is no longer charging the battery; There is no spark being supplied by the magnetos Theory Medium B 1

The pilot notices that the turn co-ordinator, oil temperature gauge and fuel quantity gauge are not operating, what could be the problem. Vacuum pump failure; Pitot tube blocked; Electrical failure. Theory Medium

As well as the additional safety factor, dual ignition systems also provide: Improved engine performance; Better heat control of the engine; Easier starting. Theory Medium A 1

A pilot inadvertently switches the master switch off in flight. The following will be affected: The engine will stop;

The ASI and Altimeter will mis-read; Most electrical equipment would be inoperative. ie: Radios, Oil temp and fuel quantity gauges. Theory Medium C 1

Aircraft magnetos obtain electrical energy from: Batteries Alternators self-contained magnets Theory Medium C 1

The probable reason an engine continues to run after the ignition switch has been turned off is: faulty magneto timing a broken magneto ground wire a cracked intake manifold Theory Medium B 1

A Fuse / Circuit breaker: Can be replaced/reset on the ground only Is self resetting after the fault has been rectified May be replaced/reset manually after the fault has been rectified Theory Medium C 1

Warning of an electrical overload would be given by: Low amps High amps No amp indication Theory Medium B 1

If the switch of a magneto becomes disconnected in flight: the affected magneto will automatically be isolated. the alternative magneto will maintain ignition. the affected magneto will continue to provide a spark Theory High C 1

What actions must a pilot take in order to resolve a suspected alternator problem? Switch all electrical components off. If you can reset the alternator; reset it, otherwise broadcast intentions then switch off unnecessary electrics and return to the field. Broadcast intentions and return to the field using as little power as possible so the alternator can supply a charge to the aircraft systems. App High B 1

Accelerating the magneto momentarily to generate high voltage at very low RPM is the function of the: Left Magneto;

Right Magneto; Impulse Coupling. Theory Fuses are fitted: In parallel with the load In series with the load In parallel with the circuit breakers Theory High B 1 High C 1
