General safety regulations

Safety in the work place (reminder of the main provisions)
Wear personal safety equipment (hard hat, gloves, safety boots, etc.). Comply with the recommended work methods. To ensure this you have all been given a safety booklet which recaps the various regulations to be observed when performing erection, servicing and repair work on lifts and mechanical escalators. We wish to draw your attention to the requirement and obligation to strictly comply with these regulations both in your own interest and in that of your fellow workers and users. Failure to abide by these regulations constitutes a fault which may have serious consequences for which you shall be held liable. Comply with these regulations: your own life and physical safety and that of others depend on it. Within the context of safety, you must: Check that statutory guard rails have been fitted on each landing bay. Whenever there is a risk of falling down the shaft, fit an anchoring ring of at least 1800 mm above the landing floor, wear the harness and attach the safety belt. When working in the shaft, provide statutory guard rails if the floor-to-wall distance is greater than 200 mm. If a landing bay barrier is temporarily removed to allow equipment to be introduced and there is a risk of falling down the shaft, wear the harness and attach the safety belt.

Furthermore, the ladder should not be treated as a regular working position. It may be used occasionally for short jobs. Similarly, given the risk involved, working above one another is prohibited. To provide lighting from the shaft to the start of the work site, install and attach a class II - IP 55 halogen floodlight to the masonry for approval. Individual safety equipment must be inspected by an accredited body (A.I.F) once a year. (Safety harness, strap reel, two-metre lanyard for harness, snap hooks for harness, Rup Chuck and Rup Chuck lanyard.) In general, the regulations governing the safety of workers in the workplace must always be observed.

!
Shaft work:
Important: when working either from the landing or from the car roof, always bear in mind the possibility of becoming trapped. Take plenty of precautions: Use the switch on the car roof Keep the doors in the open position when working from the landing. Never shunt the lock contacts with a fixed shunt. When working on a car roof which is not fitted with guard rails, use of the safety harness together with the fall-arresting strap reel is mandatory. Never leave a car roof via any opening other than a landing door after restoring the lift to normal operation. (There is a risk that the car might suddenly start).
