Stay Anonymous/ Tools

http://www.cyberguerrilla.info/?p=1757Information about recommended programs and software to use to remain anonymous from the official Anonymous Security Starter Handbook.
Please do not delete recomendations just add ** and include a brief note explaning why the program is good/bad. This will prevent people from continously adding unreliable programs. Basic Rule: A good start is to use a VPN and run Anonymous related Software from a USB device. A proxy will also do, but it is not as secure as a VPN. Always use as many security layers as possible. Make sure to use them in the right way. If you don't know how to use them, learn first. Most Anonymous use VPN to hide their traces. They use SSL encrypted connections and #vhost when they are on anonops.ru. Masks: Print out Guy Fawkes masks http://forums.whyweprotest.net/threads/need-graphicprintable-guy-fawkes-mask.34051/ VPN (from Codebook): When thinking of a VPN service, think first about the legislation of the country. A USA VPN might provide user data upon warrant issue. In other countries such as Sweden and Iceland, this is unlikely to happen. They have a strong privacy policy, which makes it harder for law enforcement agencies to get access. In addition, some servers do not keep logs of users. Also try to get VPN services that accept anonymous payments (For those that keep user billing information) More info: secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Vpn Free VPNs -- Not recommended. If they aren't selling you a service they are selling you: cyberghostvpn.com, proxpn.com, anonymityonline.org Commercial VPN providers: swissvpn.net, perfect-privacy.com, anonine.se, vpntunnel.se Recommended VPN's. All that use the OpenVPN service. And that include specific policies on user data storage and policies regarding that data. (Best option, no data loggin + no user billing loggin, + safe payment methods ie: Ukash and similar services) Pirate Bay VPN: ipredator.se Recommended VPN from Reddit Tech forums(http://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/search?q=vpn): http://www.personalvpn.org/, St rongVPN (Highly), bolehvpn, VPN Tunnel, Rellaks (invite only, see legal codehttps://www.relakks.com/faq/security/), GoldenFrog (Highly), Drakker (More information in VPN's available in codebook). Proxies: You may use them in conjunction with a VPN.

freeproxies.org, socks24.org, samair.ru/proxy Useful (mandatory) plugins/extensions for Firefox (from Codebook): BetterPrivacy (Removes persistent cookies from flash stuff) NoScript (blocks Javascript) AdBlock Plus (blocks Ads) (Subscribe to Easylist and Fanboy's List) Element Hider for Adblock Plus Ghostery (tracking pixels) TACO (More adblocking) Redirect Controller Refcontrol WorldIP (know your country, know your rights) Flagfox GoogleSharing (GoogleProxy, anonymizes the search) User Agent Switcher: Sends bogus browser identity to servers. Optimize Google: Allows to block loads of scum google uses to track searches. Outernet explorer (MacOS): Searches for a whole pile of shit on the net every 10 seconds or so, ensures anyone tapping packets will have a hell of a time. Https everywhere: automatically loads https on a site if available Scroogle SSL search (Google anonymously) url: scroogle.org Useful (mandatory) plugins/extensions for Google Chrome: Web of Trust (WOT) - If you have just one Chrome security extension, Web of Trust should be it. The WOT extension throws up traffic signal warnings for every link on the web: green for safe, amber for suspicious, and red for avoid at all costs. The ratings are powered by user feedback, so feel free to throw your own kudos or condemnation up as you surf. 292,895 users One Click Web Proxy - The fastest way to load the web page through a fast/stable web proxy. You just need click a button to use it. o(_)o 125,427 users AdBlock Verified author: chromeadblock.com: The most popular Chrome extension, with over 2 million users! Blocks ads all over the web. Proxy Switchy! by Mhd Hejazi-Manage and switch between multiple proxies quickly and easily. 138,610 users Click&Clean Verified author: www.hotcleaner.com: Deletes your browsing history, typed URLs, Flash cookies, all traces of your online activity to protect your privacy. 145,219 users BugMeNot Lite - Almost every web site seems to want you to create an account -- and to track your access history across the Internet -- even if you only plan on visiting once. With the BugMeNot Lite Chrome extension, simply click CTRL+i and those onerous login forms will be auto-completed with anonymous information. You get access, but the site gets no data. Sounds fair to me. 35,910 users

PasswordFail - For the extra paranoid among us, the PasswordFail Chrome extension warns you off any website that stores or sends your login password as clear text. Basically, if one of these sites is hacked, your undisguised password is sitting openly in a database, ready to be tried on all your other online accounts. PasswordFail lets you know if your password is an easier hacking target by calling out websites that don't encrypt their stored or e-mailed passwords. 1,118 users KB SSL Enforcer - If certain sites or services offer a Secure Sockets Layerlogin or access option, the KB SSL Enforcer will automatically select that https:// URL. The days of using unnecessarily unencrypted web addresses are over. 6,098 users Keep My Opt-Outs Verified author: google.com- Permanently opts your browser out of online ad personalization via cookies. 88,951 users

Programs to Download (from Codebook): 1. Project Tor "Tor protects you by bouncing your communications around a distributed network of relays run by volunteers all around the world: it prevents somebody watching your Internet connection from learning what sites you visit, and it prevents the sites you visit from learning your physical location. Tor works with many of your existing applications, including web browsers, instant messaging clients, remote login, and other applications based on the TCP protocol." https://www.torproject.org/ Recommended: Strongly recommended for all anonymous members regardless of your involvement in civil disobedience efforts (good for firefox browsers). Remember you are a social activist and need to protect yourself. Ease of Use: Relatively easy to download and install Tor Configuration for Google Chrome: Download Vidalia from http://www.torproject.org/easy-download.html.en Install Vidalia - a TOR client with GUI. Wait until Vidalia tells you that Tor is working. Start Google Chrome. Using the Tools menus (it looks like a wrench), choose options, "Under the hood". Scroll down to "Network" and click the "Change Proxy Setting" button. Under the "Connections" tab, choose "LAN Setting" - Select Use Proxy server and enter "Localhost" and port 8118. Save your work and return to the Chrome web browser. Check that you are using TOR by going to http://check.torproject.org/ A Green message will indicate that TOR is operating correctly. A Red message will indicate that TOR is not set up correctly. Continue to surf using TOR 2. UltraSurf** http://www.ultrareach.com/ "UltraSurf is a free software which enables users inside countries with heavy Internet censorship to visit any public web sites in the world safely and freely. Users in countries without internet censorship also use it to protect their internet privacy and security. The software allegedly connects to websites of financial and government institutions, and uses the PC for attacks against them. It

disables SSL certificate checks and allows man-in-the-middle attacks to steal authentication credentials. It hooks into the browser and uses suspicious compression to hide parts of the program." This company displays a U.S ip address. Recommended: Similar to TOR but strongly recommended for those engaging in civil disobedience as an addiitional form of security . Also, recommended for those who use Internet Explorer browsers and looking for added protection (ultrasurf was recommended by an older Anon member in an IRC chatroom). Ease of Use: Relatively easy to download and install and needs no browser configurations. Note** Some people have said that UltraSurf is a malware program but it is not (http://alternativeto.net/software/ultrasurf/about). This rumor seems to orginate from instituions scared of the added protection ultrasurf provides users in terms of anonymity (Ultrasurf was used to take down China's firewall http://www.wired.com/magazine/2010/11/ff_firewallfighters/) 3. CyberghostVPN (from Codebook and carepackages): CyberGhost VPN program provides you with an anonymous IP address and automatically encrypts transmissions between your computer and the web. CyberghostVPN has been recommended in all anon carepackages. It is important to note that although they do provide a free program, it's safer (anonymous wise) to buy the program (sign up for a free one year trial service using the promo code quale17). The free version is not recommended in the codebook. How to log onto get on IRC: Download an IRC client (highly recommended) or go to www.mibbit.com for a browser based chat.
