I Do!, this weekend, July 12-14, with two evening performances and a Sunday matinee. Originally written as a Broadway vehicle for Mary Martin (South Pacific, Peter Pan, The Sound of Music) and Robert Preston (The Music Man), the Salem version of I Do! I Do! features Broadway and film actor, Jim Raposa, who now resides in Arlington, Vermont, and Saratoga resident Rosie Spring, whose career as a singer and dancer includes several national tours and the title role in the New York State Theater Institutes production of Sleeping Beauty. One of the last Broadway shows with a score generating a number one song, the Tom Jones/Harvey Schmidt musical features Ed Ames hit, My Cup Runneth Over with Love. The following weekend, July 21-22, for three shows only, WNYT news anchors Jessica Layton and Benita Zahn bring their singing talents to the Fort Salem Mainstage with a salute to the great girl and guy groups of the sixties in a production entitled No Boundaries, with a supporting cast that spans three generations. With Jerry Gretzinger, Layton and Zahn have been singing all around the Capital Region with special shows at Saratoga First Night, Vapor Nightclub, and for countless fundraising events. CELEBRATE THE AREAS BOUNTY AT THE AL FRESCO DINNER on Saturday, July 27, the Salem Courthouse Community Center will proudly present its eleventh Al Fresco Dinner starting at 5 pm. Offered on the side lawn under crisp white tents, this much anticipated event is truly a celebration of all the good our area has to offer. Sourced from local growers and producers, the dinner features a wonderful array of artisan cheeses and grilled summer vegetables during the cocktail hour. The 2013 dinner will start with a grilled peach salad with chevre served on local field greens. Diners will enjoy herb-crusted loin of pork served on Greek potato salad, thinly sliced sirloin with chimichuri sauce served on greens, fiesta corn medley and green beans almondine. As is traditional, the meal will end with the ever- popular Courthouse cobbler. There is a cash bar offering an assortment of Red Newt Cellars wines and Adirondack Pub & Brewery beer. Guests will be entertained by the Roadhouse Rhythm and Blues Band, an eight piece horn driven band featuring the music of the 60s and 70s. The Mettawee River Theater Company, under the direction of Ralph Lee and Casey Compton, will once again offer a procession of whimsically dressed characters and puppets during the meal much to the delight of guests. Each year, the CCC collaborates with Salem Art Works to feature 3 fine pieces of sculpture on the side lawn. The 2013 collection includes Zac Wards Bad Hair, Patrick Healeys Shuttlecock and Chris Zirbes Quetzalcoatl. The Great Hall of the CCC will feature Forty Years of Quilting Joy, over 50 quilts produced by Master Quilter, Majken Sellar. In addition to all the great entertainment, guests can partake in the silent auction offering a vast selection of quality items and services donated for this event. Al Fresco would not be possible without the support of key sponsors including: Gold sponsor, Currin Compliance Services; Silver Sponsor, Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Co.; and Bronze Sponsors, Fronhofer Tool Co., McCauly & Tucker Oil Corp., Salem Farm Supply and Salem Hardware. The Al Fresco Weekend is the most important fundraiser held by the CCC each year. Over 200 volunteers come together providing a myriad of services to make this special event a reality. Over 50 servers alone are needed, and this responsibility is well-addressed by the students of the Salem Central School. The proceeds from the Al Fresco Weekend support the ongoing financial needs that keep this vibrant community center open. Tickets are still available and may be obtained by contacting the CCC. Come to this astonishing event where you will mingle with politicians, artists, farmers, teachers and your neighbor from across the way. For additional information regarding this celebration of our agricultural heritage, please visit the website at www.salemcourthouse.org or call 518-854-7053.

CHANCE TO DISPLAY PROJECTS- Warren County Youth, 5 to 19 years of age, are invited to exhibit items they have made in school, in Scouts, or just did for fun at home at the 2013 Warren County Youth Fair on Saturday, August 10th. All youth have the opportunity to earn ribbons. In addition, youth 5 to 19 years of age have the opportunity to earn cash premium awards from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets for their work. Exhibit categories range from creative arts, photography, clothing and textile projects, to pets, food, natural resources, vegetable gardening, horticulture, and mechanical sciences. All projects are subject to the rules for specific departments and fair books are currently available free of charge at the Cornell University Cooperative Extension office during office hours of 8:30AM to 4:30PM Monday through Thursday. Judging Day for the exhibits is scheduled for Friday, August 9th from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the fairgrounds on Schroon River Road in Warrensburg. The youth and their exhibits are judged based on the capability of the youth, and not by comparing one youth and/or exhibit against another (referred to as the Danish system; this allows for more than one placement at each level). Some exhibits will be selected to go to the New York State Fair in Syracuse. The judging experience helps youth gain appreciation of workmanship and helps improve their skills, techniques, and confidence. The exhibits must be displayed for public viewing on Saturday, August 10th from 9:00AM to 4:00PM at the fairgrounds. Exhibit entries are due to the CCE office by July 15th. For more information on how to exhibit at the Youth Fair please contact the Cornell Cooperative Extension Education Center in Warrensburg (6233291 or 668-4881) or visit Extensions web site at: http://www.cce.cornell.edu/warren THE CCC CONTINUES TO REACH FOR THE STARS. The Salem Courthouse Community Centers newest club, the Salem Astronomers, is in its second year and continues to grow in popularity. Under the direction of Bill Frederick, the club has attracted much interest and has a growing membership. The club meets at the CCC at 7 pm on the third Wednesday of each month with the objective of sharing a common interest in astronomy and learning more about the cosmos. Bill is a hands-on club director emailing members daily with updates so they can navigate their way through the night skies. Guest speakers of interest are invited regularly, and Bill has offered members the opportunity to observe the night sky using the powerful telescope at his home. New members are always welcome, and Bill invites anyone to email his recently changed address directly at wfrederi@wildblue.net for additional information. THE FLAMINGOES ARE BACK! A FUN FUND RAISER! Residents of Washington County and the surrounding area should keep their eyes open for a wayward flock of pink flamingoes that just might show up on a front lawn in your neighborhood! The flamingoes are on the move to benefit the Haynes House of Hope, a comfort care home for the terminally ill in Granville. If you wake up to find the flock resting in front of your house, the only way to make them leave is to make a $25 donation to Haynes House. For this donation, you get to decide where the flock will land next. Its all in good fun and for a good cause. To arrange for a flocking, call Haynes House at 518-642-8155. The flock is willing to travel throughout the area, so lawns far and wide can be visited by the fabulous flamingoes. The Haynes House of Hope, located at 7187 State Route 140 in Granville, serves the terminally ill and their families. The residents stay and care are provided free of charge. Since Haynes House receives no funding from insurance or government agencies, it is totally dependent on fundraising events, donations, grants, and the generosity of the community to fulfill its mission. More information is available at www.thehayneshouseofhope.com or by calling 518-642-8155.
