Brigade commander belied reports NPAs joined protest rally in Baybay

ORMOC CITY 802nd Brigade Commander, Col. Rafael Valencia belied reports that there were members of the New Peoples Army who joined the group of Marilou Malot Galenzoga in Baybay City last June 30, 2013. The area in front of the City Hall and legislative building of Baybay is a hot spot for supporters of Galenzoga lobbying for their causes, but that Sundays crowd was not from the usual leftist groups, according to Col Valencia, who deployed troops from the 78th Infantry Battalion to guard the rally. PNGOC exec bats for RH law passage

Neither the Church nor the State has the right to dictate Filipino citizens which form of family planning they should use. That choice primarily and ultimately belongs to the couple, but most especially to women who bear pregnancy, child birth and child care, Divinagracia said. In the Philippines, where more than 86% of the population is Roman Catholic, religion and politics are intertwined especially when the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) joins and tries to block the implementation of the RH law. The oral arguments on the controversial Republic Act 10354 or RH Law started yesterday at the Supreme Court. To provide a good future for ones family, the government should create a favourable environment for every Filipino by having a comprehensive RH policy, Divinagracia added. Of all politicians in the local and national scenes, no one can equal what Joseph Ejercito Estrada has undergone. Among movie fans in late 70s up to the 80s, he was lionized for his leading roles in the action-packed movies he portrayed especially in the Robin Hood -like character in the popularly well patronized box office movie Asyong Salonga and other movies that reaped awards for him. For 16 years from 1967-1986, he was an undefeated mayor of San Juan. According to reliable sources, he received no salary from of 15-0. However, the heavens smiled at his fate because after only a few weeks in jail he received a presidential pardon from GMA. A free man, he ran for President again in 2010, and oh what a spectacular and impressive performance he showed in the polls; he ranked second to the winner, now President Noynoy Aquino III, and he bested the early favorite during the campaign, Senator Manuel Villar and six others. Such cases can be reduced if not eliminated by introducing contraception to rid teenagers from getting pregnant. Avoiding

As the Reproductive Health Law is put to test in oral arguments at the Supreme Court, the lives of Filipinos and the generations yet to come are placed on the balance. Complicating issues regarding what reproductive health advocates deem as alarming indicators vis-vis the high incidence of teenage pregnancies and pre-marital sex is confusing people. The statistics reveal that there is a significant increase in the cases of teenage pregnancies and pre-marital sex. The data is analyzed as being the cause of unwanted pregnancies that fall into the cold statistics of abortion. The premise is that abortion is being resorted to by people who bear unwanted children. Because the child is unwanted, the makers, meaning the couple who were instrumental in the bearing of the child, would opt to abort the pregnancy. It is hard to understand the suggested causal connection. While it may be true that abortion is a result of

the criminal decision of couples that do not want to bear the child, such is not always a product of teenage pregnancy or pre-marital sex. It is too presumptuous for such studies to conclude that teens who get pregnant never wanted to bear the child. Wanting to be pregnant is a decision not exclusive to adults for teens may have decided to bear as early as in their teens. This is so because God made us to be capable of reproduction as early as the teen years. This fact was supported by our civil laws that allowed marriage earlier than eighteen years before the advent of the New Family Code. Teenagers are already discerning although parental guidance is still very much needed. We cannot presuppose that those getting pregnant while still teen never wanted to be so for such may have been a deliberate decision by teen couples. This is a setback to what these literature gurus are resolute about. It is likewise considered that there are words that differ in meaning from one topography to another. Ungria and Lumbera pointed out, however, that this may be a setback for a while but in the long run, this will be eased once the people get to accept the semantics of the terminologies not word for word but understanding these words with differing meaning if taken in its total meaning.

In that Joseph was the foretype of Jesus who came to satisfy the hunger for God. When we see Jesus feeding the hungry and curing all kinds of diseases (Mt 10:1), we are reminded that these are his signs calling us to see in him the answer to our eternal hunger. God is not beyond Christ, but is in him. Therefore, let us not try to satisfy our hunger for the Divine away from Christ; If we do, this hunger will only drive us out of truth and shelter of love, setting us on a haunted journey, on a never-ending path in quest of something that is missing. LNU to hold investiture of its new president

TACLOBAN CITYTo formally introduce Dr. Jude Duarte as the newly-elected third university president of Leyte Normal University (LNU), an investiture ceremony will be held at the LNU-HRDC Gymnasium this coming July 11. Officials from both the government and non-government organizations are expected to attend the program which shall kick off at 10:00 oclock in the morning for the turn-over ceremony, to be followed by the commemorative rite of the New LNU president and the investiture proper at 3:30 in the afternoon. These include Atty. Mar De Asis, the chair of Region 8s Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC-8), Dr. Crescencia Chan-Gonzaga, the first LNU president and Dr. Evelyn Cruzada, the second LNU president, and some university officials from Tra Vinh University in Vietnam, who are to give their felicitations. Expected to attend the occasion are City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla, Energy Secreatry Carlos Jericho Petilla, and Senator Juan Edgardo Angara, one of the members of the LNU Board of Regents (BOR) and other presidents of the PASUC-8. The members of the family of the university president and some faculty members from Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) where Dr. Duarte came from will also be coming, Juvy Mariano, LNU board secretary stated. During the ceremony proper, Nona Ricafort, chair of LNU-BOR will do the reading of the scroll of appointment which will be followed by the presentation of the presidential medallion by Commissioner Patricia Licuanan of the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd). Leyte Vice Gov.Carlo Loreto, who is a member of LNU-BOR, will have the presentation of the university mace which will then be followed by the investiture address of the new LNU president. Also, during the program, Yelena Nina Duarte, the daughter of the university president will be singing for him, Mariano added. Different LNU bodies are also to witness the event. These include the LNU Supreme Student Council (SSC), administrative council, faculty members, academic council, directors, deans, vice presidents, among others. Dr. Duarte was elected as LNU president last March 19, 2013. He is a native of Bontoc, Southern Leyte who is recognized for his management potentials, leadership and business acumen.
