BALI THE RIGHT WAY

G'day again folks and welcome to the weekly for another run at the gossip. What a crazy week in the A.F.L with the Melbourne Demons winning their first game for the season against the Western Bulldogs. Too bad it's taken over half the season and I believe a coach was sacked only a few weeks ago, so I'd say the powers that be will be singing their praises. I was told that the lads got back to the change rooms and when the clubs triumph song was to be sung, no-one knew the words. I wonder if the club is accused of tanking at the end of this season? Time will tell I guess.

This week also saw an upset with Port Sadelaide taking a rather comfortable win over the Pies, who are still maintaining their position within the eight for the time being. The rest of the season should sort the men from the boyz. Richmond had a good run this week and look to be well placed for a good season finish. I believe old mate Squirt and Boof head have a swifty on the boys getting to the grand final in September, so again, time will tell. The week just passed saw the second part of the state of origin clash with the lads from Queensland taking a very confident win over New South Wales to make it an even one all final towards the middle of this month. I did pick the Blues to win the first game and also correctly tipped the Maroons to take the second game, and to that end I feel the Blues will get up and finally take the series win for 2013. Fingers crossed. Moving along this week I will remind all the readers that the paper is a small community endeavour and without the sponsors we couldn't get a free newspaper out to you each week. There are some that read it diligently each week at one of our many distribution points and some readers that prefer to check it out each week online via our Facebook page, but either way it's great that we have such a strong following. I'll take this opportunity to thank all the sponsors who have been with us for many years and know the worth of the paper. We have had a heap of new inclusions as far as sponsors go over the last few weeks and one I would like to personally introduce to our readers is, Blue Green Life These are arguably one of the best insurance firms on the island and offer services including travel insurance, health insurance including hospital cover. They cover comprehensive motor vehicle insurance and should you want to insure your villa or home they can take care of that as well. Being in business for many years and staying in business is a fair indication that they know what they are doing and can deal with basically all types of insurance required both at a private level and for high level corporate needs. We thank Blue Green Life for their support and trust that our readers get behind them and seek them out should they need a quote on any insurance. Thanks again Miss Amy for your support and we look forward to seeing you in the paper for many years to come. Check out the advert on page 31. Ok folks I think it's time to move on for the week and chase down a few cold little green ones, tune the radio to LBFM and kick back for another week in paradise. I hope the most of you stay safe, happy, healthy and try your best to remember, Life is all about choices, as if things don't change they remain the same. Enjoy Your week, ALIASJ.

Local Businesses Complaining About Growing Number of Bali Restaurants Operated by Foreigners on Tourist Visas
Bisnis Bali reports that many restaurants in South Kuta operated illegally by foreigners are destroying competing businesses run by indigenous people. Bisnis Bali focused their investigation on South Kuta particularly in the Ungasan and Pecatu areas. They discovered a number of dining venues managed and owned by foreign nationals. I Made Sumerta, a community leader in Pecatu, said there were many restaurants threatening the livelihoods of Indonesians and operated by foreign nationals who have no working papers and run their businesses while holding only tourist visas. In some instances, according to Sumerta, the restaurant owners are married to local women or use a pliant local "partner" to register their business. Whether these people have a work visa or a holiday visa has to be clarified, demanded Sumerta. operations to check on the status of the foreign nationals running the local eateries. Continuing, Sumerta warned: I am worried that the increasing prevalence of these unclear businesses will destroy locally-owned businesses. There are more and more of these dubious sorts of 'warungs,' restaurants and simple food stands. According to Ketut Mudita, the owner of Sakana Resto, Bali as a tourism destination has its own special appeal for those wanting to open a culinary business. He said, however, that he never expected foreign visitors coming to Bali would become involved in the operations of simple restaurants. Foreign visitors opening restaurants in Bali while only holding a tourist visa are clearly illegal and results in lost tax revenues to the regency. www.balidiscovery.com

To enforce visa rules, however, village and traditional leaders lack the proper legal authority. Because of this, Sumerta is calling for the relevant officials to conduct "sweeping"

Tidings of Tidal Changes

Udayana University Experts Warn Proposed Reclamation Projects to Create Islands in Bali's Benoa Bay will Have Far-Reaching Negative Effects on Surrounding Waters and Shorelines The Bali Post quotes experts in hydrology from Bali's Udayana University saying that plans to reclaim parts of Benoa Bay and the adjoining mangrove forests will bring disastrous results to Bali's natural environment. I Nyoman Sunarta, a hydrologist from Udayana University warns that if current plans to reclaim portions of Benoa Bay come to fruition, current and tidal patterns will be significantly altered in the Bay. Moreover, Sunarta said a pattern of confusion already exists in tidal flows around Benoa Bay. This situation he feels will only be exacerbated if planned reclamation projects are undertaken. Referring to plans to create new islands near the Island's new toll that changes in how water circulates in and around Benoa Bay will be affected by any changes to the Island's southern mangrove forest. The flora, fauna and marine life in the mangrove, he adds, will also be impacted by the proposed reclamation project in the mangrove reserve. Experts warn that the reclamation to create new islands in Benoa Bay will also alter water depths in the adjoining harbor, potentially making it problematic for commercial shipping to enter and navigate the harbor. Suryanto said plans to harvest sand from the beach at Sawangan does not represent a significant threat to that area, providing the sand is harvested from a minimum depth of 30 meters of water. Harvesting closer to shore or at shallower depths will threaten the shape and structure of adjoining shorelines in Sanur. www.balidiscovery.com

NOMINEE SYSTEM FOR HAK MILIK

This structure is a regularly practiced procedure in Indonesia, whereby the foreigner nominates and Indonesian representative to acquire the land and to hold the 'freehold' title (Hak Milik) on behalf of the foreigner. Ownership of the land is transferred from the previous owner to the Indonesian nominee. The foreigner and the Indonesian nominee then sign an agreement which recognizes the Indonesian nominee as the legal owner of the property whilst declaring the foreigner as the rightful owner of the property. Just because they're both emblems of American pride doesn't mean fireworks and bald eagles should share the same skyline.
The floating launch pad for July the Fourth fireworks display in suburban Seattle is being moved from its usual site to avoid frightening a pair of baby bald eagles nesting in a tree on the shore of Lake Washington, sponsors of the event said. A spokeswoman for the local National Audubon Society chapter said the two eaglets, still too young to fly, might be so startled by the pyrotechnics that they would jump out of their nest and plunge to the ground, leaving them injured or vulnerable to predators. The fledgling national symbols, apparently unaware they are complicating the Independence Day festivities in the city of Kirkland, east of Seattle, currently spend their days perched in a tall lakeside Douglas fir in the town's Heritage

asked that the display be moved from its traditional location for the sake of the young raptors. Organizers agreed. As a result, the pyrotechnics company will relocate its launch site some 350 yards (meters) farther away from the nest, said Penny Sweet, founder of the civic group, Celebrate Kirkland, which oversees the fireworks. The company also promised to tailor the show to emphasize visual displays with less explosive noise to further minimize disturbing the eagle family. "That's good for dogs and old people like me," Sweet said wryly. She added that the new barge site will make the fireworks visible to more of the city as a whole. Brisson said the revised plan adheres to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service guidelines requiring fireworks displays to be located at least a half-mile from an active bald eagle nest.

Ubud, a must visit in Bali.

The quiet, touristy town of Ubud is considered by many to be the epicenter for arts and culture in Bali. Ubud (pronounced Ewbood) has developed a reputation as a place with a positive vibe, possibly explaining why so many artists and naturalists have settled in the lush, green areas around town. Although tourism in Ubud is growing faster than the town can keep up, there is still a certain tranquility and happiness to be found in the clean air. The town has become a popular and peaceful retreat from the parties and crowded madness of Kuta just two hours away. Shopping in Ubud The influx of tourism in Ubud mixed with the proximity of so many artists has caused a great deal of unique boutiques and shops to open. Unlike the tacky, beach-tourist feeling of shopping in Kuta, Ubud provides a much more sophisticated experience. Local shops are filled with unique and beautiful crafts, art work, carvings, jewelery, and gifts to take back home. The sprawling, indoor Ubud Market caters mostly to tourists in search of cheap souvenirs. Be sure to haggle prices negotiation is expected - or you may end up paying triple what something is worth. Walking the Rice Fields Ubud has spilled out into its tiny surrounding villages, but the growth has not ruined the natural setting of the beautiful surroundings. Green rice fields still blanket much of the area and can easily be reached by foot or on bicycle. The fields may be hiked along a twisting path for miles through tiny, thatched-roof villages. You will find the start of one of the trails just past the small market outside the "top" entrance of the Ubud Monkey Forest. Hiking these tranquil fields in the morning to the sounds village life beginning is something you will never forget. Get Healthy With scores of holistic medicine practitioners now living around Ubud, it is no surprise that so many spas and meditation centers have opened up. In town you can easily find all types of Eastern and Western massage centers, reiki healers, herbal medicine shops, and even acupuncture practitioners. The Bodyworks Healing Centre was the first of such places and has been providing natural healing to the local people long before Ubud was on the tourist map. Petulu A strange, natural phenomenon occurs each evening just north of Ubud in the village of Petulu. Thousands of white herons arrive here around 6:00 p.m. and prepare to roost for the night before flying off again in the morning. The birds first began coming here after a communist massacre in 1965 but no one is sure why they continue to return. Local lore holds that these are the souls of those that were killed. Such a predictable gathering of these large and beautiful birds is a spectacle not to be missed. Balinese Dance Performances No visit to Ubud is complete without seeing at least one traditional dance performance. Although the performances are very tourist-oriented, this is a great opportunity to see classic Hindu legends being told through dancers in colorful, traditional costumes. Ubud Palace is a popular place providing shows nightly as well as Pura Dalem which has twice-weekly shows and fire dances performed outside. Hindu Temples Ubud and the villages in the surrounding area contain dozens of examples of beautiful Hindu Temples. Most temples are free to visit or ask for a small donation. Proper attire is required, although many temples will loan or rent a sarong for your visit. Pura Penataran Asih in nearby Pejeng is a charming temple containing the largest bronze kettle drum in the world. The Bronze Age drum is known as the "Moon of Pejeng" and dates back to 300 B.C. Pura Besakih on the slopes of Mount Agung is Bali's most sacred temple site. A complex of 23 temples can be explored on a day trip from Ubud. Elephant Cave Only two km south of Ubud lies one of the most sacred sites in Bali - Goa Gajah. Also known as the Elephant Cave, this Hindu site dates back to the 11th Century and was nominated as a tentative UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cave is believed to have been home to Hindu priests and the entrance is carved with menacing figures from Hindu legend. The interior of the cave is dark and contains a few religious relics. The site is still used for worship by locals so proper dress is required to enter. Ubud Monkey Forest The shady, green Ubud Monkey Forest is the most popular stop for tourists in the town of Ubud itself. Hundreds of playful and interactive Macaque monkeys call the sacred forest home and roam freely around the tree canopy and temple complex. Walking around the winding, moss-covered brick paths of the Monkey Forest is a great way to escape the heat of the afternoon, but mind your belongings. The steady stream of tourists has made the monkeys bold enough to even reach into pockets in search of something interesting!

Park. They are believed to be six to eight weeks old, and probably won't start to fly until the beginning of August, said Mary Brisson, a board member and spokeswoman for Eastside Audubon. The town's annual fireworks usually are set off from a barge floating in the lake near the park, and Brisson said her group recently

Costa Rica said it was investigating two men suspected of laundering money for Venezuelan government firms after detecting a shady scheme to buy millions of bars of soap.
Investigators in the Central American nation said they had frozen at least $15.5 million in bank accounts belonging to a Costa Rican lawyer and a Venezuelan who had made suspicious transactions for a company owned by Venezuela's government. Police raided the premises of the lawyer and the hotel room where the Venezuelan was staying to gather evidence, but made no arrests, the country's judicial investigation agency, a unit of the attorney general's office, said in a statement. "The suspicion is that bank accounts are being created in Costa Rica to launder money in the United States and other countries, from companies belonging to the Venezuelan government", the statement said.

Like a flame, she undresses herself, taking off everything including her panties and lies down on the table and shouts: 'HELP ME - I haven't seen a man in over two years!!'" "Tunderin' Lard Yeezus!" Venezuelan government officials were not immediately available to comment. Costa Rican investigators believe the two men also created other companies to launder money coming from Ve n e z u e l a n g o v e r n m e n t owned firms. The agency did not name the companies. According to the Costa Rican agency, a bank in Costa Rica detected a suspect transaction in June, in an account belonging to a company that lists the Costa Rican lawyer as a general manager and the Venezuelan as a counter-signatory. The men

were not named. The two associates had submitted paperwork for the receipt of $9.7 million from a Venezuelan state company for the planned purchase of 10 million bars of soap, the agency said. But police findings showed international transactions were far h i g h e r, w i t h $ 1 5 . 5 m i l l i o n deposited, it added. Investigators said last year that several million dollars were deposited internationally to accounts belonging to the two men for planned purchases, but the money was instead deposited to bank accounts in the United States, China and Panama.

Hawthorn Hawks hand Brisbane Lions 58-point defeat for 12th straight win
Hawthorn matched a club record 12-game winning streak with a thumping 58point defeat of Brisbane at Yo r k P a r k o n S u n d a y afternoon.
The Hawks booted seven goals to two in a dominant third quarter in attimes greasy conditions after they had led by 22 at half-time to thrash the Lions 21.17 (143) to 12.13 (85). Brisbane fought hard for the first half of the match but could not match last week's comeback win against Geelong when the home side hit the accelerator after the long break. "[The Lions] were definitely full of confidence after last week's effort against Geelong and the conditions probably didn't suit either team real well early," Hawks forward Jarryd Roughead told Grandstand. "But [it was] a good fourquarter effort from us. "Probably the last two weeks we haven't had the best games, [we've] been beaten in the middle, so it was good that across the board we were consistent today." Only Hawthorn's inaccurate kicking early preventing a complete mauling. Roughead and Lance Franklin booted four goals each with Shane Savage and Luke Breust kicking three each among 11 goalkickers for the Hawks, who equalled a 1961 streak that took spectacular collision with Lion Golby, landing on his neck after becoming airborne and temporarily leaving the field. But the disruptions could not stall Hawthorn's momentum with Roughead's back-to-back majors in the third breaking Brisbane's resistance before Savage and Breust bagged two each as the Hawks ran away with it in the last. Hawthorn could have shot out to a substantial lead in the first quarter after scoring 3.8 (26) to Brisbane's 1.2 (8), their poor kicking typified by Isaac Smith's run into an open goal only to grubber through for a behind. The hosts made some amends with two goals in as many minutes after the break to lead by 30 before a double from Brown narrowed the margin to 16. But Brown's effort was equalled spectacularly by Franklin, who skidded one through from 60 metres and, a minute later, drove one home from an acute angle on the left from 50. The Lions hit back through Tom Rockliff to go to the long break 22 points down, having kicked four in answer to Hawthorn's five in an entertaining quarter.

Ricky Martin
Enrique "Ricky" Martn Morales (born December 24, 1971), is a Puerto Rican pop singer, musician, songwriter, actor and author who achieved prominence, first as a member of the Puerto Rican boy band Menudo, and as a solo artist since 1991. Martin began his career at age twelve with the all-boy pop group Menudo, after five years with the group, he released his Spanishlanguage solo album, Ricky Martin, in 1991. He also acted on stage and on TV in Mexico, becoming a modest star in the country. In 1994 he starred on the American TV soap opera General Hospital, playing a Puerto Rican singer. In 1999, after several albums in Spanish, he released his first English-language album (also titled Ricky Martin), which included "Livin' la Vida Loca". The album sold 22 million copies and brought Martin international fame. His other studio albums include: Me Amars (1993), A MedioVivir (1995), Vuelve (1998), Sound Loaded (2000), Almas del Silencio (2003), Life (2005), and Msica + Alma + Sexo (2011). Martin performed at the 1999 Grammy Awards. He has sold over 70 million albums and has had 95 platinum records, 6 #1 Billboard albums, 11 #1 hit songs, 2 American Music Awards, 6 Grammy Awards, 8 World Music Awards, 10 Billboard Music Awards, 8 MTV Music Video Awards, with concerts in more than 60 countries across the globe. Life and career Martin was born on December 24, 1971, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the son of Nereida Morales, an accountant, and Enrique Martn Negroni, a psychologist. His parents divorced when he was two years old and Martin spent much of his childhood shifting between his father's home in the suburb of University Gardens and his paternal grandmother's house nearby. Martin has two maternal half-brothers, Fernando and ngelFernndez, and two paternal half-brothers, Eric and Daniel Martn, and a paternal half-sister Vanessa Martn. Martin has Catalan (Spanish) ancestry through his maternal grandmother who was born in Spain as well as Corsican ancestry through his paternal grandmother. Martin grew up in a Roman Catholic home and was an altar boy throughout his childhood. He began singing at age six, using wooden kitchen spoons as pretend microphones; he often interpreted songs by Menudo as well as English-language rock groups such as Led Zeppelin, Journey, and REO Speedwagon. His mother's side of the family was musically inclined and his maternal grandfather was a poet, which inspired young Martin to write songs. Martin later reflected on his time spent with his family as a child: "Every time I find myself in front of an audience, be it twenty people or one hundred thousand, once again I feel the energy that consumed me back at the family gatherings of my youth." After discovering a newspaper advertisement about auditions for commercials with his father, nine-year-old Martin began appearing in Puerto Rican television commercials for products such as soft drinks, toothpaste, and fast-food restaurants. In a year and a half, he starred in eleven commercials. After achieving a small amount of fame in Puerto Rico for his work in television commercials, Martin auditioned for membership in Puerto Ricanboy bandMenudo. Although the executives enjoyed his dancing and singing at his first two auditions, Martin was rejected because he was too short. By the third audition, his persistence impressed executives and in 1984, thirteen-year-old Martin became a member. A month after joining Menudo, he made his debut performance with the group at the Luis A. Ferr Performing Arts Center in San Juan. During this performance, he inadvertently disobeyed the choreography by walking around the stage when it was planned that he would stay still, and was chastised by the band manager after the show: "The mistake was such a big deal that from that moment on, never again did I move when I wasn't supposed to move...That was the discipline of Menudo: You either did things the way you were told or you were not part of the group." The song "AsignaturaPendiente" from Almas del Silencio (2003) was inspired by the first time Martin left Puerto Rico to tour with Menudo. Although Martin enjoyed traveling and performing onstage with Menudo, he found the band's busy schedule and strict managing to be exhausting and later reflected that the experience "cost" him his childhood. He considered leaving the group while on tour in Brazil, but ultimately decided to stay out of fear of media backlash and being sued for breach of contract. Martin also began struggling with his sexuality, noting the stark contrast between his status as a sex symbol and his own emotions. Despite this, Martin acknowledged his "opportunity to have so many amazing experiences with so many amazing people" during his time with the group. He developed an interest in philanthropy when the group became UNICEF ambassadors, often working with impoverished children in third world countries. His experiences as an ambassador affected him greatly and inspired him to continue working with charities later in life. By 1987, Menudo's record sales began to decline and the group changed its image, adopting an edgier look and performing more rock-influenced songs. After recording eleven albums with the group, Martin left Menudo in July 1989 at age seventeen, hoping to rest and evaluate his career path. He performed his final show with the group at the same venue as his first performance as a member. Martin returned to Puerto Rico to graduate from high school, and thirteen days after turning eighteen, he moved to New York City to celebrate his financial independence, since he was a minor during his time as a member of Menudo, Martin was not allowed to access his own bank accounts. He was accepted into New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, but months before classes began, Martin dropped out and moved to Mexico City to perform in the play Mama Ama el Rock (Mom Loves Rock).

The centuriesold skull of a white man found in Australia is raising questions about whether Captain James Cook really was the first European to land on the country's east coast.
The skull was found in northern New South Wales in late 2011, and police initially prepared themselves for a gruesome murder investigation. But scientific testing revealed that not only was it much older than expected, but possibly belonged to a white man born around 1650, well before Englishman Cook reached the eastern seaboard on the Endeavour in 1770. "The DNA determined the skull was a male," Detective Sergeant John Williamson said. "And the anthropologist report states the skull is that of a Caucasoid aged anywhere from 28 to 65." Australian National University expert Stewart Fallon, who carbondated the skull, pulling some collagen from the bone as well as the enamel on a tooth, said he was at first shocked at the age of the relic. "We didn't know how old this one was, we assumed at first that it was going to be a very young sample," he explained.

He said there was a 20 percent probability the skull, which was found wellpreserved and intact but without any other remains near the Manning River, belonged to someone born between 1780 to 1790 who died between 1805 and 1810. "The fact the skull is in good condition and found alone could easily point to it coming from a private collection and skulls were very popular with collectors in the 19th century." Cassie Mercer, editor of Australia And New Zealand Inside History, said the skull "could be an incredible find". "I guess it's a very exciting find because it could open up a whole lot of avenues of history that we haven't been able to explore before," Dutch explorers made the earliest European landings in Cape York in Australia's far north and western Australia in the 1600s.

The former food taster for Adolf Hitler was served a plate of food and forced to eat it between 11 and 12 every morning for most of the last 2-1/2 years of the Nazi German leader's life. If she did not fall ill, the food was packed into boxes and taken to Hitler at the Wolf's Lair, a military headquarters located deep in woodland, in what is today northeastern Poland. "Hitler was a vegetarian so it was all vegetarian fare, it was very good food like white asparagus, wonderful fruits, peppers and cauliflower," the 96-year-old Berliner said. Along with 14 other girls in their 20s, Woelk lived in fear that every meal she ate would be her last. "We were always terrified that the food might be poisoned as England wanted to poison Hitler and he knew that from his spies so he employed young girls to taste his food," she said. "We cried a lot and hugged each other. We asked each other: 'Will we still be alive tomorrow or not?'" Wo e l k , w h o s t i l l h a s nightmares about her role as a food taster and did not speak about her experiences for decades after the war, said she and her family were against the Nazis and that she landed the job "through a series of coincidences". Forced to leave her apartment in Berlin when allied bombing made it uninhabitable, Woelk gave up her secretarial job and moved in with her parents-inlaw in the village of GrossPartsch, then in eastern Germany and now part of Poland.

When Hitler killed himself in April 1945, Woelk fled to Berlin and went into hiding. Soviet forces were closing in on the German capital and Woelk was later pulled out of an air raid shelter and raped by Russian soldiers for a fortnight. The other 14 food tasters who had stayed behind were all killed, she said. After the war Woelk started a job in pension insurance and was surprised when her husband, in Russian captivity and presumed dead, turned up unexpectedly. She had not heard from him in two years and did not recognize him. I've had a life full of drama and now, at the age of 96, I'm back living in the same house I lived in before the war."

James McManus foursome sees Newcastle thrash Gold Coast Titans

A James McManus foursome of tries helped the Newcastle Knights pulverise the Gold Coast Titans 4616 at Hunter Stadium on Sunday.
In Newcastle, the eight-tries-to-three blowout was enough to send the Knights up to eighth on a boosted points difference, while the Titans belied their finals hopes with an abject showing in defence. To make matters worse for the sixth-placed side, Jamal Idris hobbled off in first minute and could be out for up to four months with a suspected broken ankle. Tyrone Roberts opened the floodgates on the 10th minute for the Knights before Darius Boyd the second half before Jarrod Mullen powered over on the hour mark. Willie Mason provided the one blot on the Knights' copybook, going on report for a high shot on Gold Coast utility Sam Irwin. Gold Coast's Kevin Gordon then scored against the run of play, intercepting a fifth-phase bomb on his try line to speed away on the break. Greg Bird scored another consolation for the Titans on 73 minutes before David Mead scored on the stroke of full-time to reduce the deficit to something approaching respectability.

She said she never saw Hitler, though she did see his dog. Woelk said she heard the explosion on July 20, 1944 caused by a bomb that army generals had planted at the Wolf's Lair with the aim of taking Hitler's life. At the time Woelk was watching a film with soldiers in a tent not far from the military headquarters. "We heard this huge bang then we fell off the wooden benches we were sitting on. Someone shouted 'Hitler is dead' but we later found out that only his hand was injured." After the failed assassination attempt, Woelk said she had to move into

Missing man 'kept as slave on farm'

A man missing in Britain for 13 years claims he was kept as a slave on a farm and forced to sleep with rats.
Darrell Simester disappeared after arguing with friends during a holiday in Wales in August 2000. Described as a vulnerable man by his parents Tony and Jean, Mr Simester was found at a remote farm in south Wales after an anonymous tipoff. Over the years his desperate parents contacted the police more than 50 times but were never able to locate their son. According to reports, police discovered Mr Simester living in a filthy caravan in a farmyard with no running water. He was starving, wearing dirty, torn clothes and had teeth missing. Mr Simester has been reunited with his family in Worcestershire, but he is being treated for a host of medical problems caused by his poor treatment over the past 13 years. He said that he had been treated like a slave by a group of Irish travellers who lured him to the farm with a job offer. Mr Simester said he was forced to work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and was never allowed to visit a doctor or even leave the farm. "I never had one day off in 13 years," he said. "I was scared what they'd do to me if I didn't stay." He went on to say he was initially forced to sleep in a ratinfested shed but was moved into a caravan two years ago. He said he bathed using water from a horse trough.Tony Simester said his son's treatment was inhumane. "These type of people roam the streets picking up the vulnerable and offering them a new life. Then they are treated like dogs," he said. they had seen Darrell at the farm, near Cardiff. Mr and Mrs Simester and their youngest son Duncan travelled to the site with police where they found their son. "What can I say? This day has made my life," Mrs Simester said. And then this post on the Facebook page: "We will share our good news. We have our son Darrell back home. So this has been the greatest day of our lives. Please respect our privacy for the next few days we have to let him recover. Many thanks for all your good wishes over the years and not giving up. You are wonderful people and I feel that I know you all. From the bottom of my heart a very big thankyou.xxx" Tony Simester said his son has been to hospital several times since his return. His problems were "all down to the conditions he has been subjected to over the last 13 years". Another message on Facebook this week said: "Darrell is settling down to a peaceful family life, something he has missed out on in the last 13 years. His health is our priority and each ailment is being dealt with even though it seems to take ages to get anything done for him. He at last sleeps in a proper bed with bed linen and proper washing facilities, clean clothes, all of which he has not had." Gwent Police said they were investigating the conditions in which Mr Simester was living and working.

A Facebook page set up by Jean Simester to help find her son attracted 9000 likes. In February Mr and Mrs Simester put out an appeal in a Welsh local paper after receiving information through the Facebook group that made them think he could be in Wales. The next day they received a call from an anonymous person who said they were 95 per cent sure

But the Broncos got back on top shortly after when Josh Hoffman got clear down the left wing to go over. Hoffman was also denied a double when referee Henry Perenara ruled a pass forward in the lead-up with 20 minutes to play. The Warriors then snatched victory from the jaws of defeat when Konrad Hurrell snagged an intercept and ran away the length of the field to score. It was not all good for the streaking Warriors though, with Vatuvei leaving the field in the second half with a suspected leg injury and Russell Packer a late scratching before kick-off. The Broncos were also left licking their wounds with representative forward Ben Hannant ruled out after the warm-up with a calf injury. "They really took it to us. Police dogs get sniffy at Wimbledon

Zac is equally passionate about his job but the problem is people who keep trying to pet him when he is working. For both are black Labradors out on dawn patrol every morning at the world's most famous tennis tournament in an eightdog unit from the police explosives search team. They work together everywhere from London airports to last year's Olympics and patrol Wimbledon for six hours every morning until an influx of about 40,000 people to the grounds in south London. The London Olympics was Marlowe's first job and his handler, Constable Paul Osborne, said he passed with flying colours. "He was very good," Osborne said proudly as Marlowe wagged his tail furiously at yet another passing admirer outside Wimbledon's hallowed Centre Court. The strong relationship between the two is obvious and Standing beside him is Zac and his handler Richard ForshawSingh who has no doubt dogs are easier to handle than people. "Oh God, yes. I spend more time with him than I do with my wife," he said of the black Labrador who lives with him and his family, helping to build a strong bond. "Sometimes you get frustrated with people who go up to the dog while he is in the middle of searching and try to pat him." Also on hand at Wimbledon is a two-strong team of dogs trained to look for firearms. For security reasons, both police officers were tight-lipped about the triumphs their charges have achieved in the field. A spokesman for Scotland Yard confirmed there had been no major incidents at Wimbledon in 2013. The dogs are not alone on dawn patrol at the early morning "Wimbledon zoo". As the dogs sniff out the stands, up in the skies roams Rufus the Harrier Hawk whose job is to scare off pigeons who might be tempted to leave unwanted souvenirs on the Centre Court for tennis players in their pristine white outfits.
