Subject Advance Management Practice

It focuses on the strategic management of organisational knowledge and innovation. The conceptual framework of the course is an evolutionary process perspective on knowledge-based strategy and innovation. Innovation, in this context, is defined as a new way of doing business or satisfying customer need. The fundamental ideas underlying this evolutionary perspective are (1) that a firms competitive strategy emerges from its technological and knowledge competences and capabilities, (2) that knowledge-based strategy is shaped by external (environmental) and internal (organisational) forces, and (3) that the enactment of a knowledge-based strategy, through the experience it generates, serves to further develop the firms innovative competences and capabilities. Within this evolutionary perspective, the course draws on strategic management, economics, and organisation theory for analytical tools to address important challenges faced by managers in knowledge-based firms.
