PROPOSED 100 - BED GENERAL HOSPITAL

Introduction A sound physical and mental well-being of the population is the aim of every society. Good health is an indicator for development. But it is a fact that each member of the community, one way or the other will be subjected to different types of illnesses and emergency cases. Healthcare facilities stand as the immediate venue for prevention and recuperation. Challenges arise in the Philippine setting, as the hospital to population ratio is 2.24 (per 100,000 population) (DOH, 2001) indicating the need for additional facilities in order to provide better health services and recovery to those in need. Since hospitals have long been the center of providing health care across the nation, the primary goal of this project is to maximize this major role. A well funded multinational private entity in partnership with its local counterpart has initiated part of their project to establish a 100 Bed General Hospital, which is under Tertiary Category by National Center for Health Facility Development (NCHFD) of the DOH. Design Requirements The Tertiary Category implies that it should be fully departmentalized and equipped with the service capabilities needed to support certified Medical Specialists and other licensed physicians rendering services in the field of Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Surgery, their subspecialties and ancillary servicesi. Following is the list of spaces and minimum area demand for the hospital classified as tertiary category, 100-bed capacity.

The project proponents also require much consideration on energy efficiency in the design as well as Green and Sustainable Architecture. You are tasked to give utmost attention and concern to these requirements. A hospital can be complicated as it can be but proper and in-depth research is vital to an effective design approach. Research Requirements Architectural Program Prepare the architectural program for a tertiary hospital; you can base it on the Manual for Technical Guidelines for Hospitals and Facilities Planning and Design for 100-Bed Hospital, DOH publication. (Accessible from this website: http://www.doh.gov.ph/node/1850)
Prepare the architectural program within one week after the issuance of this major plate.

This will serve as your architectural program for this plate.
