CRITICAL EVALUATION OF SYLLABUS OF POST BASIC B.SC. 2nd YEAR


NURSING RESEARCH AND STATISTICS

Placement- Second year

Time: Theory-45hours Practical- 120 hours

COURSE DESCRIPTION :
The course is designed to enable students to develop an understanding of basic concepts of research, research process and statistics and utilize the research findings to provide quality nursing care. The hours for practical will be utilized for conducting individual/ group research project and solve the problems related to nursing using scientific method.

CRITICAL EVALUATION: Syllabus is well organized in a logical sequence. Teaching learning activities described along with each unit are well matching with topics. Evaluation methods described along with each units meeting the full criteria of good course description. Learning objectives are well framed. Time assigned to each unit is adequate. Practical portion is described separately.

SOCIOLOGY
Placement- Second year Time: Theory- 60 hours

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to reorient the students to sociology related to community and social institution in India and its relationship with health, illness and nursing.

CRITICAL EVALUATION: Syllabus is organized well in a logical sequence. Maxims of teaching e.g. simple to complex, normal to abnormal are well followed while developing course plan. All the topics need to be covered are clearly written. Teaching learning activities described along with each unit are well matching with topics. Evaluation methods described along with each units are meeting the full criteria of good course description. It is very difficult to complete the whole course in 60 hours. Time duration assigned to each unit is not adequate. Inadequate time duration can lead to non- coverage of topics.

COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING


Placement- Second year Time: Theory- 60 hours Practical- 240hours

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed for students to practice community health nursing for the individual, family and groups at both urban and rural settings by using concept and principles of health and community health nursing and helps to enable the students to understand the national health care delivery system and to participate in the delivery of community health nursing.

CRITICAL EVALUATION: Syllabus is well organized in a logical sequence. Teaching learning activities described along with each unit are well matching with topics. Evaluation methods described along with each units meeting the full criteria of good course description. Learning objectives are well framed. Time duration assigned to each unit is not adequate. Some Topics of unit third (Delivery of community health services ) and of fourth unit (Community health nursing approaches, concepts and roles and responsibilities of nursing personnel ) are overlapping. Unit 5 is overlapping with the community health nursing topics.

INTRODUCTION TO NURSING EDUCATION

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course is designed to enable students to acquire understanding to principles and concept of education, curriculum development and methods and media of teaching. It also describe the steps in curriculum development and implementation of educational programmes in nursing.

Syllabus is well organized in a logical sequence. Teaching learning activities described along with each unit are well matching with topics. Evaluation methods described along with each units meeting the full criteria of good course description. Learning objectives are well framed. Time assigned to each unit is not adequate. Maxims of teaching is applied to simple to complex level in syllabus. Participation and organizing of an in- service education programme is described. It helps to develop basic skill of counseling 6+and guidance.

MENTAL HEALTH NURSING


Placement- Second year Time: Theory-60hours Practical- 240 hours

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course is designed to enable students to acquire understanding to recognize and appreciate the causes, symptoms and process of abnormal human-behavior. It also introduces students to the present day treatment modalities in the light of psychological, social and cultural factors affecting human behavior. The course helps the students to learn principles of mental health and psychiatric nursing and to develop beginning skills in the management of mentally ill in the community and hospital.

Syllabus is well organized in a logical sequence. Teaching learning activities described along with each unit are well matching with topics. Evaluation methods described along with each units meeting the full criteria of good course description. Learning objectives are well framed. Time assigned to each unit is not adequate. Maxims of teaching is applied to simple to complex level in syllabus. Total theory hour assigned (theory-60 hrs) to whole course in not sufficient. Theories (psychoanalytical theory-freuds theory, theory of psychosocial development- Erikson theory, cognitive development theory) should be include in syllabus to understand the behavior of patient.

INTRODUCTION TO NURSING SERVICES ADMINISTRATION


Placement- Second year Time: Theory-60hours Practical- 180 hours

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course is designed to enable students to acquire understanding to recognize an opportunity to the student to gain an understanding of the principles of administration and its application to nursing services. It is also intended to assist the student to develop an understanding of professional leadership need.

Syllabus is well organized in a logical sequence. Teaching learning activities described along with each unit are well matching with topics. Evaluation methods described along with each units meeting the full criteria of good course description. Learning objectives are well framed. Time assigned to each unit is not adequate. Maxims of teaching is applied to simple to complex level in syllabus. Nursing units are managed and organize effectively.
