SAMPLE FORMAT OF LESSON PLAN (KBSR) (for ELT in Primary Schools) Subject: English Language Class: Year 4 Avicenna

Level: Average Enrolment: 25/25 Date: 7th February 2013 Time: 8.00-9.00 a.m. Teaching Context: World of Knowledge Topic: Unit 6 (Moving Around) Specification(s): 3.3.1 Read and understand phrases, matching simple phrases to pictures. 3.4.1 Read aloud words and phrases,pronouncing them correctly. 4.8.2 Write simple sentences with word and picture cues. Learning Outcomes: By the end of this lesson, pupils in their respective levels should be able to: 1. Read phrases given and match 5 simple phrases to pictures correctly. 2. Read aloud 10 words and pronounce them correctly. 3. Write 5 simple sentences with based on picture correctly. Thinking Skills: Categorizing Previous Knowledge: Pupils have learnt about different types of common vehicles .Moral Values: Be aware about road safety Teaching Materials: a composite picture of vehicles, video clip, laptop, speaker, textbook, LCD projector

Teacher asks pupils to read the chant with their partner. 3. Teacher chooses few pairs randomly and teacher asks them to read aloud to the class. 4. Teacher corrects pupils pronunciation.

Practice Step 1 (+ 7 mins) Whole class discussion Pair work Materials: flash cards 1. Teacher sticks 5 flash cards containing pictures of vehicle on the whiteboard. 2. Teacher asks pupils to match phrases that they have learnt with the correct picture by writing the phrases on the whiteboard. 3. Teacher checks and corrects pupils answers.

Step 2 (+ 8 mins)

1. Teacher explains to pupils that they have to pronounce 10 words given correctly. 2. Teacher gives a handout containing the 10 words to each pair. 3. Teacher asks pupils to repeat after the teacher had pronounced it. 4. Teacher asks pupils to check on their partners pronunciation during pair work.

Individual work Material: A4 coloured paper

1. Teacher explains to pupils that they have to make a card to be sent to their parents. 2. Pupils have to draw a picture of a vehicle that they want to give to their parents. The choice of vehicles should be the vehicles that they have learnt during the lesson. 3. Based on the picture, they have to write 5 sentences based on the picture that they have drawn. 4. Teacher gives pupils an A4 paper each.

Closure: (+ 5 mins) Whole class discussion

1. Teacher recaps the lesson. 2. Teacher stresses that pupils should be careful when riding a vehicle. 3. Teacher asks pupils to bring materials for next week.
