An overlooked type of anti-Semitism?

In connection with the OSCE Conference on Anti-Semitism, June 19, 2003 Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and Lawyers Committee for Human Rights issued a joint statement1: "Recognizing anti-Semitism as a serious human rights violation, we also recognize our own responsibility to take on this issue as part of our work. It should not be left to Jewish groups alone to highlight this issue and to appeal to the international community to address it. We are firmly committed to joining their ongoing efforts and to helping to bring problems of anti-Semitism into the overall human rights discourse." We are aware of large numbers of extremely anti-Semitic messages directed daily to large Arabiclanguage, Muslim audiences. These messages incite to hatred and violence. Any Jews living in e.g. Egypt or Morocco or Tunisia must feel that they are in danger when these sorts of things get published and broadcast. The Internet, cable TV, and satellite dishes mean that millions of Muslims living outside of the Middle East are also exposed to this incitement, which makes Jews living e.g. in Europe feel that they are in danger. It is truly a worldwide issue. Yet we cannot find reactions to any of these things from organizations such as yours. The tipping point for us was created by a TV-series called Khaybar, scheduled to run throughout Ramadan, starting from about July 7, 2013.

Our call to action

We are now asking your organization to condemn Arab/Muslim anti-Semitism in general and the upcoming Khaybar miniseries in particular.

Specific actions taken and requested or proposed

1. We have already petitioned a number of representatives for Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, asking them to protest against the Khaybar series. https://www.change.org/petitions/human-rights-ngos-condemn-upcoming-antisemitickhaybar-ramadan-mini-series The representatives were selected because of their potential for policy-making in issues that are rooted in the Middle East, although the issues that concern us have serious impact all over the world. By now, they should have received more than 1100 letters. 2. This packet of relevant information and analysis is being delivered to support the professionals who actually prepare content and select media. Because the case of Khaybar

An even stronger statement was issued by Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights, and International League for Human Rights on 28 April 2004: http://www.hrw.org/news/2004/04/27/jointstatement-osce-conference-anti-semitism-berlin-28-29-april-2004

is so urgent, most of the material is about it. In addition to this packet, we are delivering the petition text, signatures, and comments. 3. Urgent: We are asking your organization to actually speak up against the anti-Semitism in Khaybar now , and to give us a firm commitment to specific activities. We request a documented plan and documentation of implementation as things develop. We would be happy to share responsibility for documenting implementation. 4. Just a bit less urgent: Are there any of the cases documented here or similar instances that you believe should be defended as free speech rather than condemned as incitement to hatred? If so, please outline consistent principles for distinguishing between the two categories and the reasoning behind these principles. 5. Bridge between actions 4 and 6: We believe that your organization should be in the forefront of warning about the dangers of the anti-Semitism expressed here and daily in Arab media including cases where defense of free speech applies. Please express clearly whether or not you agree and the reasons for your policy. 6. We are asking your organization to document what you have done and what you concretely plan to do about anti-Semitic media floods aimed at Muslim audiences. We request that you set specific goals for how, when, and to whom the documentation will be provided. And we request that your documentation be ready for dissemination by September 30, 2013. In this connection, please comment on how your organization could exert pressure on politicians and policy-makers to - denounce anti-Semitism in the Arab media and - to prosecute when there is advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility, or violence.2 And please comment on how your organization could exert pressure on media to develop and follow policies to minimize vitriolic expression of anti-Semitism - and to improve balance by providing emotionally appealing material that encourage audiences to explore Jewish culture and actions with an attitude of honest curiosity, tolerance, and forgiveness.3

The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (20-2) (http://www.ohchr.org/EN/ProfessionalInterest/Pages/CCPR.aspx) states: Any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence shall be prohibited by law. 3 This is our down-to-earth interpretation of recommendations in the Summary Report of the OSCE High Level Meeting on Confronting Anti-Semitism in Public Discourse, 23-24 March 2011 (http://www.osce.org/odihr/77450) page 9: Members of the media should adopt voluntary codes of conduct and/or ethics which clearly articulate the responsibility of members to report in a well-balanced, objective manner.

Coming Soon: Khaiber The Genocide Of Jews In Arabia4

Update February 22, 2013 Khaiber writer, Yusri Al-Jindy, says now is the time to expose Jews.
A production company in Qatar will reportedly start filming a multi-million dollar television series next month commemorating the genocide of Jews in Arabia in the 7th century. The series, called Khaiber, is based on a script written by Yusri Al-Jindy, an Egyptian writer who has previously depicted Israelis and Jews as blood-thirsty savages in his work. One of his plays about the 1967 war, titled The Wandering Jew, was banned in Egypt. The series, produced by the Doha-based Echo Media Qatar, is supposedly scheduled to be filmed in several Arab countries, including Morocco, Egypt and Jordan, and will apparently feature several well-known Arab actors. Echo Media Qatar has reportedly started building sets with structures similar to the ones inhab-ited by Jews 1,400 years ago. A report on Al Jazeera in Arabic yesterday described Khaiber as the most important feature of the Islamic-Jewish fight. Muslims always raise its name in their rallies against Israel because it constitutes a memory of a harsh defeat for the Jews who lived in the Arabian Peninsula during the time of prophet. The story of Khaiber, according to most Islamic sources, ends with the execution of thousands of Jews, including women and children. Protesters at anti-Israel rallies around the world, including the U.S., often evoke this battle in their chants to galvanize supporters. According to Al Jazeera, Al-Jindy said he wrote the script because the Zionist movement is currently passing through a turning point as a result of the changes in the Arab world. According to another report in the Qatari newspaper Al-Raya, the series will focus on the social, economic and religious characteristics of the Jews including politics and conspiracies and how they dominate and control tribes. Past Echo Media Qatar productions have promoted conspiracies about Jews. In 2010, Echo Media Qatar produced a series called The Collapse of the Caliphate for Ramadan that blamed Jews for conspiring with the enemies of the Sultan to end the Islamic Caliphate. When completed, the series will likely rein-force the dehumanization of Jews in the Arab world in the same way that previous programs have done, such as the 2003 Egyptian television series Knight Without a Horse which was based on the notorious forgery, The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion. Series such as this, often aired during Ramadan, are generally very popular and receive broader viewership than programs aired throughout the rest of the year.

Why are human rights organizations silent about Arab and Muslim anti-semitism?5
EoZ May 9, 2013
In 2003, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International issued a joint statement on antisemitism: (http://www.hrw.org/news/2003/06/18/osce-conference-anti-semitism)

Recognizing anti-Semitism as a serious human rights violation, we also recognize our own responsibility to take on this issue as part of our work. It should not be left to Jewish groups alone to highlight this issue and to appeal to the international community to address it. We are firmly committed to joining their ongoing efforts and to helping to bring problems of anti-Semitism into the overall human rights discourse. Now, in 2013, if you look through the Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International websites, it is difficult indeed to find any condemnations of Arab or Muslim anti-semitism. While they condemn anti-semitism in Western countries (http://www.hrw.org/news/2002/05/09/western-europe-rightsgroups-condemn-racist-and-anti-semitic-violence), I cannot find a single mention of the phrases "Arab anti-semitism" or "Muslim anti-semitism" on either of their sites. Their typical mentions of anti-semitism are usually together with Islamophobia. Given the daily anti-semitic incitement in the Arab and Muslim worlds, this is yet another indication that "human rights" organizations have a significant blind spot and are anxious to judge Arabs and Muslims by quite different standards than they judge Westerners. In the past two days I posted crazed Jew-hating diatribes shown on Lebanese TV (http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2013/05/cleric-on-lebanese-tv-if-onlyhitler.html), and in a popular Egyptian newspaper (http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2013/05/egyptpaper-holocaust-fake-jews-behind.html).

Also recently we saw two accusations of the medieval blood libel in Egypt (http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2013/04/egyptian-newspaper-publishes-two.html),

a newspaper series insulting Judaism in Jordan (http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2013/03/jordanian-newspaper-wraps-up-series-of.html ), as well as examples of antisemitism in the Iraq media (http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2013/01/iraq-news-agency-spouting-pure-anti.html) , Saudi Arabia newspaper (http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2012/12/run-of-mill-antisemitism-in-saudi.html), a Palestinian Arab "human rights group" (http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2013/03/passover-blood-libel-in-hanan-ashrawis.html) and "peace activist (http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2012/12/some-anti-semitism-frommoderate.html ), and pan-Arab media (http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2012/08/todays-anti-semitism-inmainstream-arab.html , and many more (http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2012/10/todays-anti-semitism-injordanian-media.html) .

It is endemic. But worse than that, the hatred is mass produced. In 2001, a hugely popular 30-part Ramadan TV series (http://www.memri.org/report/en/0/0/0/0/0/0/563.htm) aired in the Arab world based on the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. It was rerun in Egypt this year (http://www.imra.org.il/story.php3?id=56233 analysis, March 2012). Iran released an antisemitic movie last year (http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2012/09/translationof-parts-of-anti-semitic.html) . A purely anti-semitic TV series - "Khaybar" (http://www.egyptianpeople.com/default_news.php?id=55491)) being filmed now (http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2013/03/major-anti-semitic-tv-seriesstarted.html )in Egypt and Morocco to be shown in Arabic TV to the Arab world will be used to incite hundreds of millions of people against Jews during Ramadan next year. The filming of the series gets regular coverage in Arab media, and they make clear that it is meant to demonize Jews. The director doesn't even attempt to hide the purpose of the film. Naturally, "human rights" organizations are silent about that as well. So where are the condemnations from the mainstream defenders of human rights who have said that anti-semitism is a serious human rights violation? Or is it simply too touchy a subject for them? Simply put, human rights organizations do not insist that Arabs and Muslims adhere to the same standards that the rest of the world must. I think there is another reason why this issue is roundly ignored by the mainstream human rights organizations. They want to believe that if only Israel would offer more concessions, then peace is

possible. They want to frame the Arab-Israeli conflict in terms of human rights and international law and fairness and other Western constructs. The Arabs happily take advantage of this blind spot and speak only in those terms to Westerners as well, so the cycle of self-deception is complete. Publicizing the rampant Jew-hatred in the Arab and Muslim worlds, however, will show that the hate transcends any other claims. The Arab goal isn't human rights. They want to destroy the Jewish state and have Jews revert to the second-class status (at best) that they held in the Middle East for the past 1400 years. The idea that Jews aren't meekly submissive to their more numerous cousins is what causes this pure hate, not land disputes or "settlements." Once this realization sinks in, the Western liberal mind would despair. Peace, it would appear, isn't possible in such a toxic environment. But since peace is imperative, the thinking goes, all evidence to the contrary must be downplayed. Pretend it is a political problem with a political solution, and don't let anything get in the way. The irony is that soft-pedaling Arab and Muslim anti-semitism does no one any favors. HRW, Amnesty, Oxfam and all the other human rights organizations can help the cause of peace immensely by shining light on this oldest hatred. Publicizing the issue is necessary for ridding the Muslim world of their hate - or at least opening up a debate about it, a debate that is all but silent. (I have rarely seen a talkback in Arabic condemning an article that denies the Holocaust or accuses Jews of drinking gentile blood on Passover.) Peace is literally unthinkable when the Jewish people are viewed as evil incarnate. Human rights organizations have clout. Shining light on this problem is essential, and it is not an obstacle to peace - it is a prerequisite. Right now, the human rights organizations have a chance to prove that they mean what they say. The Khaybar TV series is coming, and it is pure incitement against Jews. Denouncing this as a human rights issue - which it is, according to Amnesty's and HRW's own words - can show that these organizations are serious about their own stated purposes.

Arab TV series inciting hate against Jews coming in July. Will anyone do anything to stop it?6
EoZ May 23, 2013
Excitement is growing in the Arab world over the upcoming TV series Khaybar. While the series is ostensibly about the battle between Muslims and Jews in the city in 629 CE, the director and writer make it clear that the point of the film is to expose Jews and their evil plots. They explicitly say (http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2013/03/major-anti-semitic-tv-seriesstarted.html) that they are drawing parallels between the Jews of Biblical times, the Jews of the Arabian peninsula in the seventh century and the Jews of Israel today.

It has an all-star cast. The only other English-language website I can find that finds this alarming is the ADL blog: An interview with Yusri Al-Jindy, the writer of Khaiber, an upcoming television series commemorating the genocide of Jews in Arabia, reveals both the anti-Semitic and political agenda behind the production. In an interview with Al-Masry Al-Youm, an Egypt-based daily newspaper, on January 16, Al-Jindy said, The goal of the series is to expose the naked truth about the Jews and stress that they cannot be trusted. Commenting on the recent changes in the region, Al-Jindy described the importance of recognizing the parallels between the era of the Khaiber battle and contemporary times. Al-Jindy also seemed to suggest that the series will have a global effect. I think it is time to expose them [the Jews] even in America itself. I am confident that the United States will realize that it paid a high price for supporting them. Predicting that he will be accused of anti-Semitism after the series airs, Al-Jindy added, The charge of anti-Semitism is an outdated trend, and in fact it is a lie that Jews use against anyone who tries to expose their naked truth and their conspiracies. (http://blog.adl.org/tags/the-wandering-jew)

Here is the trailer: (http://www.youtube.com/embed/oDzdMX4CXEM?feature=player_embedded)

And here is an Arab entertainment TV show segment that interviews the actors and director for "backstage secrets." I don't have a translation but the style of the show mimics that of any highly anticipated Hollywood blockbuster: (http://www.youtube.com/embed/UGaqONAESWs?feature=player_embedded)

There are daily articles in the Arabic press about this TV series, which will be released for Ramadan, this coming July. Hundreds of millions of Arabs will be exposed to anti-semitism and incitement. Broadcasting this TV series would be a violation of international law. The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights states (20-2) (http://www.ohchr.org/EN/ProfessionalInterest/Pages/CCPR.aspx): Any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence shall be prohibited by law.

Egypt is a signatory to this covenant, as is Jordan, Morocco, Iraq, and Tunisia (http://treaties.un.org/Pages/ViewDetails.aspx?src=UNTSONLINE&tabid=2&mtdsg_no=IV4&chapter=4&lang=en#Participants) . Yet there has been silence from human rights groups, and even Jewish groups, except for the ADL. It is critical that the Arab governments are called to account for broadcasting this incitement before it happens. The time to publicize it is now, and to force the bigots to expose and defend their hate. Condemning this impending massive hate crime should not be spearheaded by right wing Zionist or Jewish groups. Liberal organizations, those who are most concerned with human rights, should be in the forefront. We should be hearing condemnations from Human Rights Watch, Oxfam, Amnesty International, and even the Palestinian Center for Human Rights and other Arab NGOs who claim to support human rights. Given that this is a violation of international law, condemnations should also be coming from nationstates as well. Moreover, even Jewish so-called "pro-peace" organizations such as J-Street, Jewish Voices for Peace, +972 magazine and others should be deploring this attempt to incite hatred against Israel - which would make peace that much further away. This is not an issue of the Israel-Arab conflict, but a basic issue of human rights and humanitarian law. Every single organization that says it cares about peace, human rights and international law must be forced to answer whether they condemn this broadcast of a TV series whose very author brags is meant to stoke the hatred of Jews worldwide. Now is the time to see if these groups are indeed as concerned about human rights and international law as they claim to be. UPDATE: I created a Change.org petition. https://www.change.org/petitions/human-rights-ngoscondemn-upcoming-antisemitic-khaybar-ramadan-mini-series

Egypt's Summer of Jew-Hatred7

Wall Street Journal. POLITICAL DIARY June 11, 2013, 12:19 p.m. ET, Article By SOHRAB AHMARI
In March, on his first visit to the Jewish state as president, Barack Obama exhorted Israelis to reach out to their Arab neighbors and see that "sometimes the greatest miracle is recognizing that the world can change."

But consider Egypt, where in 2011 a popular revolt swept away Hosni Mubarak's pharaonic dictatorship only to replace it with a Muslim Brotherhood-led theocracy. Through it all, one element of Egyptian culture has remained constant: its virulent anti-Semitism. "Khaybar," a serial drama set to air during the holy month of Ramadan (starting on July 8), is Egyptian TV's latest piece of hate-melodrama. It depicts the Prophet Muhammad's conquest, in A.D. 629, of a Jewish community on the Arabian Peninsula. "Khaybar, oh Jews!" is an oft-heard chant at Arab anti-Israel rallies. But just in case there was any doubt about the intended political message, the show's screenwriter, Yousry El Gendy, has gone on the record with the online news outlet Alyoum Alsabea to declare: "This drama will focus on the Jewish community and will show their traits, ideas and their maliciousness. Also, it will show the enmity between Arabs and Jews since the time of Moses." Ahmed Maher, a popular actor playing one of the Jewish villains, told the Al-Balad newspaper that "Khaybar" sets out to depict Jews as "the ugliest slice of humans." "The show will be on when most Egyptian families are staying at home for Ramadan doing nothing but watching TV," Mina Rezkalla [Rezkallah], a U.S.-based Egyptian activist told me. "The goal is completely outward anti-Semitism." Contrary to Mr. Obama's uplifting Middle East maxims, some things in the world's least free region never change.

ZOA Calls On Obama to Pressure Egypts Morsi into Canceling Broadcast & Distribution of Vicious AntiSemitic TV Series8

The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) has called upon the Obama Administration to publicly pressure the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood-backed regime of Mohammed Morsi to cancel the broadcast of a viciously anti-Semitic television series that is due to air in July during Ramadan and to also cancel its distribution in the Arab world. According to most Islamic sources, the Khayber story ends with the slaughter of thousands of Jewish men, women and children. The vanquished Jews were forced thereafter to hand over half their produce to the Muslims until later expelled by the Caliph Umar. The ZOA has noted that Egypt is a signatory of The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which prohibits the advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence, and should be held accountable for the broadcasting and dissemination of this series. The series is explicitly intended to demonize the Jews as an alien race hostile to Muslims and the welfare of the world. According to the series script-writer, Yusri Al-Jindy, The goal of the series is to expose the naked truth about the Jews and stress that they cannot be trusted I think it is time to expose them [the Jews] even in America itself. I am confident that the United States will realize that it paid a high price for supporting them. Anticipating a charge of anti-Semitism Al-Jindy said that, The charge of anti-Semitism is an out-dated trend, and in fact it is a lie that Jews use against anyone who tries to expose their naked truth and their conspiracies. Al-Jindy is also the author of The Wandering Jew, which was banned in Egypt in the 1980s. Khayber is produced by the Qatari company Echo Media Qatar which, in 2010, produced a television series, The Collapse of the Caliphate, which blamed Jews for conspiring with the enemies of the Ottoman Sultan to dismember the Caliphate, the Islamic empire administered for several centuries by the Ottomans. A report in the Qatari newspaper Al-Raya states that the series focuses on the social, economic and religious characteristics of the Jews including politics and conspiracies and how they dominate and control tribes. A report on Al Jazeera this week described Khayber as the most important feature of the IslamicJewish fight. Muslims always raise its name in their rallies against Israel because it constitutes a memory of a harsh defeat for the Jews who lived in the Arabian Peninsula during the time of prophet. The promotion of anti-Semitic themes in the Egyptian media has been a long-standing and ominous problem. In 2002-2003, Egyptian television produced a 40-part series, Rider Without a Horse, dramatizing the classic anti-Semitic tract, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. The program depicts Jews murdering a gentile child to use his blood in making of Passover matzah. The current Egypt President, Mohammed Morsi, also has a long and ugly record of anti-Semitism: In 2010, Morsi said the following in a speech unearthed earlier this year that, Dear brothers, we must not forget to nurse our children and grandchildren on hatred towards those Zionists and Jews, and all those who support them. They must be nursed on hatred. The hatred must continue (Source: Egypts Morsi In 2010: Obama Insincere; We Must

Nurse Our Children And Grandchildren On Hatred Of Jews Those Who Support Them, Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), Special Dispatch No. 5138, January 16, 2013 (http://www.memri.org/report/en/0/0/0/0/0/0/6935.htm)). In a 2010 TV interview, Morsi referred to Jews are these blood-suckers, who attack the Palestinians, these warmongers, the descendants of apes and pigs [standard Islamist parlance for describing Jews] We should employ all forms of resistance against them. There should be military resistance within the land of Palestine against those criminal Zionists None of the Arab or Muslim peoples and regimes should have dealings with them They must not be given any opportunity, and must not stand on any Arab or Islamic land. They must be driven out of our countries We must all realize that resistance is the only way to liberate the land of Palestine (Source: Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi In 2010: No To Negotiations With The BloodSucking, Warmongering Descendants Of Apes And Pigs; Calls To Boycott U.S. Products, MEMRI, Special Dispatch No. 5118, January 4, 2013 (http://www.memri.org/report/en/0/0/0/0/0/0/6909.htm)). Last October, Morsi was shown (http://www.memritv.org/clip/en/3614.htm) in an Egyptian Channel One Television broadcast of a sermon by a Egyptian cleric, fervent in payer as the cleric said, Oh Allah, destroy the Jews and their supporters. Oh Allah, disperse them, rend them asunder. Oh Allah, demonstrate Your might and greatness upon them. Show us Your omnipotence, oh Lord (Source: Egyptian President Morsi Joins Preacher in Prayer for Dispersal of the Jews, MEMRI, Video Clip No. 3614, October 19, 2012 (http://www.memritv.org/clip/en/3614.htm)).

ZOA National President Morton A. Klein said, The dissemination of poisonous anti-Semitism in a Middle East already awash in it is a serious development that cannot simply be ignored. This vicious and venomous Egyptian TV series calls for practical action. We call upon the Obama Administration to hold the Morsi regime to the assurances it offered when it entered office that it will uphold the ways of peace and not act inconsistently with its obligations to maintain peace in the region. To broadcast and disseminate blood-curdling genocidal fantasies of Muslims slaughtering Jews is obviously and blatantly anti-Semitic and anti-peace. The 1966 The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (http://www.ohchr.org/EN/ProfessionalInterest/Pages/CCPR.aspx), which Egypt signed, states in Article 20, paragraph 2, that Any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence shall be prohibited by law. In view of President Morsis own ugly record of ugly anti-Semitism, as outlined above, it will clearly require firm U.S. and international pressure on Cairo to ban the series. If the U.S. fails to demand these things, it will only show that the production of the most obscene hatred carries no U.S. penalty.

Khaybar A Middle East Reality Check9

Jonathan S. Tobin | @tobincommentary. 06.17.2013 - 6:50 PM
Much of the discussion about the Middle East peace process tends to focus almost entirely on what Israelis do and what the implications of more concessions to the Palestinians will be for the Jewish state. Some of this emphasis is justified, as Israel ought to do what is not only right but is in its longterm interest. For some on the left that means ignoring not only the openly stated intentions of the Palestinians and their supporters in the Muslim and Arab worlds but also their long record of rejecting peace. But as difficult as it might be to focus the international press as well as liberal Jews on the historical record of the Palestinians and their political culture that makes peace improbable if not impossible, it may be just as important to broaden the discussion to that of the culture of the entire region. If Palestinians have never found the will to recognize the legitimacy of a Jewish state no matter where its borders are drawn it is in no small measure because doing so is viewed as treason to the general anti-Zionist cause. It is that context an item brought to our attention by the Elder of Ziyon website (http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2013/06/khaybar-ramadan-miniseriesfaces.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+blogspot%2F PDbq+%28Elder+of+Ziyon%29). In one we are informed that a new blockbuster miniseries slated for broadcast throughout the Muslim world in July as part of the regions version of sweeps week for the Ramadan holiday may not be aired after all. But rather than Khaybar being axed for its widely reported anti-Semitic theme, the series may be in trouble because it portrays some of the Prophet Muhammads companions and therefore offends the religious sensibilities of Dubai TV and other broadcasters. While I have no position about what Muslims ought to consider taboo, the fact that Khaybar is still slated to run in most of the Middle East tells us more about what the contemporary Arab world thinks about Jews than canned statements about peace intended for the Western press that peace advocates rely upon.

As the Anti-Defamation League reported in February (http://blog.adl.org/tags/khaybar Khaiber) there isnt much doubt about the intent of people that made Khaybarwhich centers on the historical conflict between early Muslims and Jewish tribes in the Arabian Peninsula during the Prophets lifetime: In an interview with Al-Masry Al-Youm, an Egypt-based daily newspaper, on January 16, Al-Jindy said, The goal of the series is to expose the naked truth about the Jews and stress that they cannot be trusted. Khaybar has resonance with those seeking to destroy Israel because the Jewish tribes of the Medina area were conquered, treated with great cruelty and eventually expelled from the region in the year 642.( http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/judaica/ejud_0002_0012_0_11088.html) Al Jindy authored another miniseries with anti-Semitic context called The Wandering Jew. Its producers are hoping to repeat the success of another series based on the fraudulent Protocols of the Elders of Zion that was a huge hit during Ramadan a decade ago. Rather than dismissing this as irrelevant to the discussion of peace, the popularity of such smears should send a chill down the backs of those who continue to argue that Palestinians and the Arab world are ready to give up their hundred-year-old war to eradicate the Jewish presence in the region. So long as Khaybar remains a safe theme for broad-based Muslim popular culture, were a long way from peace in the Middle East.

Leaked Khaiber Episodes Confirm10 ADL Concern Over Anti-Semitic Themes

ADL Blog JUNE 18, 201311
The first two episodes of Khaiber, a multi-million dollar television series commemorating the genocide of Jews in Arabia in the 7th century, have been posted on Youtube. [See final section of this collection] The episodes, which series producers reportedly claim have been leaked, reveal the degree to which classical anti-Semitic narratives are being promoted in the program.

Scheduled to air during Ramadan next month, the episodes depict life prior to the rise of Islam in the Arabian city of Yathrib, where the Jewish tribe of Khaiber lived between the two Arab tribes of AlAws and Al-Khazraj. Khaiber Rabbis are portrayed as secretly conspiring to fuel war between the Arabs in order to weaken them. The main character, the Grand Rabbi in Yathrib, Hayi Ben Akhtab, seeks to sow conflict between Arabs to promote the weapon industry, which Jews control, according to the episodes. Another character, a Rabbi by the name of Shas, is depicted as a symbol of Jewish hatred to the Prophet Muhammad. Other Jews who live in the city are depicted as frugal, greedy and immoral merchants who profit from the Arabs. The one Jewish character that is depicted as a good man awaits the appearance of Muhammad to convert to Islam. Last February, ADL first reported on the Echo Media Qatar production and on Egyptian author, Yusri al-Jindy, who wrote the script for the mini-series. ADL exposed the troubling history of al-Jindys previous work, which propagated anti-Semitism and extreme anti-Israel themes. THERES A NEW ANTI-SEMITIC TELEVISION SERIES SET FOR BROADCAST IN THE MUSLIM WORLD12
Jun. 20, 2013 7:45am Sharona Schwartz- The Blaze A new Arabic-language television series, Khaybar, scheduled for broadcast in the Muslim world during Ramadan next month is raising alarm among Jewish groups due to the deeply anti-Semitic messages it reportedly conveys. According to clips translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), Jews are portrayed in the program as deceptive, greedy and sinful, stereotypes historically employed as pretexts for the persecution of Jews. Screenshot of Khaybar scene translated by MEMRI [see final section of this collection] In one excerpt, a Jewish character says they should use their cleverness to instigate civil strife. This is the source of their weakness and our strength, the character says.

In another scene, a prophet-like character predicts, Greed blinds you, oh Jews. I foresee days as dark as night ahead of you, oh sinners. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on Tuesday denounced (http://blog.adl.org/international/leakedkhaiber-khaybar-episode-anti-semitic-themes) the content of two of the episodes which were posted online this week. The episodes, which series producers reportedly claim have been leaked, reveal the degree to which classical anti-Semitic narratives are being promoted in the program, the ADL writes. The Zionist Organization of America is calling on President Barack Obama to pressure Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi to stop the broadcast of the multi-million dollar production. It writes (http://zoa.org/2013/06/10204322-zoa-calls-on-obama-admin-to-pressure-egypts-morsi-intocanceling-broadcast-distribution-of-vicious-anti-semitic-tv-series/): The television series, Khayber, celebrates the victory of Muhammads Muslim army over the Jewish tribes living in northern Arabia in the battle of Khaybar in 629 C.E. [A.D.] According to most Islamic sources, the Khayber story ends with the slaughter of thousands of Jewish men, women and children. The vanquished Jews were forced thereafter to hand over half their produce to the Muslims until later expelled by the Caliph Umar. The ZOA reports that the series scriptwriter has publicly stated that his goal in the series is to demonize Jews. The goal of the series is to expose the naked truth about the Jews and stress that they cannot be trusted I think it is time to expose them [the Jews] even in America itself. I am confident that the United States will realize that it paid a high price for supporting them, scriptwriter Yusri Al-Jindy said according to ZOA. The Qatari newspaper Al-Raya wrote that the series would focus on the social, economic and religious characteristics of the Jews including politics and conspiracies and how they dominate and control tribes. (http://blog.adl.org/international/coming-soon-khaiber-the-genocide-of-jews-inarabia) According to the ADL, the battle of Khaybar is often evoked during anti-Israel rallies to galvanize supporters. (http://blog.adl.org/international/coming-soon-khaiber-the-genocide-of-jews-inarabia) The pro-Israel blogger who writes under the pen name Elder of Ziyon is so concerned that hundreds of millions of Arabs will be exposed to antisemitism and incitement (http://elderofziyon.blogspot.co.il/2013/05/arab-tv-series-inciting-hate-against.html) that hes started a petition calling on human rights organizations to condemn the series. He reports that the series may be in trouble in at least one Arab TV market, not because of antiSemitism, but because actors portray colleagues of the prophet Mohammed: (http://elderofziyon.blogspot.co.il/2013/06/khaybar-ramadan-miniseries-

faces.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed:+blogspot/PDbq+ %28Elder+of+Ziyon%29) Dubai TV is threatening not to show the series because it apparently has actors portraying Mohammeds companions. Some Muslims extend the ban on portraying prophets in art or drama to anyone Mohammed spoke to as well, and Khaybar seems to include some of Mohammmeds companions as characters in the series. Ali Al Rumaithi, Director of Dubai TV, stated that while it would be a major loss to not broadcast the series, his responsibility to his viewers is more important, and subjecting them to images of Mohammeds companions is a danger. Subjecting them to incitement against Jews is, of course, just dandy. The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) translated the episodes that were posted online and provides these excerpts: [see final section of this collection]

Jordanian newspaper: "Let's kill the Jews everywhere"13

EoZ, Sunday, June 16, 2013
Introduction: This article, by Dr. Muhammad Qasem Batayena writing in Jordanian newspaper Assawsana. is the worst one I have ever read. And that's saying something. Batayena is apparently a Ba'athist, and in other articles he writes of his support for the Assad regime and he refers to Saddam Hussein as a "martyr." Even so, as you will see, he will happily use Koranic references as well. The title of the piece is "Let's Kill the Jews Everywhere." Annotated translation of the article text: I'm not an extremist, nor racist I'm not bloodthirsty and not vengeful I'm not a terrorist and I've never been a killer All my life I hated the color red, and my dictionary never included the word "blood" I am not bloodthirsty at all but I'm an oppressed Muslim and an Arab whose will has been taken away from him that is how we were shaped in (these) bad times, which we haven't chosen (to be born into) this is how it was planned that we should be we are living in volcanic lands We smell the smell of blood coming from every direction they [presumably the Jews] turned the color of the ground into red our people's body parts were scattered and their factions fought each other [literally "shot at each other"] through

Arab-like Hebrew hands ["musta'ariba", see Wikipedia for analog Mista-arvim http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mista%27arvim] and because I look at all these things without doing a thing for that I'm an Arab. Because all my limbs are chained and I cannot move because my tongue was made silent by the treacheries of the blood-traders [Arab rulers who made peace with Israel or at least don't fight it] because my heart became dead and my words are no longer virgin, because my brown skin hides behind it chagrin/sorrow/anger and humiliation/disgrace, and therefore I am an Arab for sure because our blood is permitted, while the blood of the apes and pigs is forbidden because the Arab tyrants sold us for a cheap price and served us on golden plates as sacrifice for the Zionists because the rotten Jewish tourist walks around [Arab countries] firmly guarded by Arab guards, in order to guard his filthy soul because any Arab who wants to pray in Jerusalem has to obtain a visa from the killers of the children of Palestine because the hero Daqamseh http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Island_of_Peace_massacre#The_perpetrator , see here http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2008/07/jordanians-to-king-pardon-massmurderer.html] is described as "a criminal murderer by our Arab-like ["musta'arabin" again) ambassadors in the so-called Israel, and therefore I'm an Arab, unfortunately. Yes, unfortunately, our identity is lost since that whore Livni slept on the bosom of the rulers of Qatar (http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2012/11/arabic-media-now-sayslivni-slept-with.html), and its leaders kissed Hillary Clinton and hugged the black whore Condoleeza Rice Yes, unfortunately I'm an Arab since Palestine has been erased from the map of the world since that/one Canadian policeman told me that Israel is oppressed and it has to be aided [not sure if he means the Canadian government, or he refers to a personal encounter with an actual Canadian policeman] since I found out that the entire world collects donations in order to support Israel in getting rid of terror, therefore I'm sorry that I'm an Arab. Thus, I have to be ashamed of my Arabness... I have to bury my head in the sand like an ostrich, with chagrin and weakness but this will never happen since our great leaders have taught us that Falsehood might win the battle but Truth wins the war, our paragon, leader and Master (the prophet) Muhammad Bin Abdallah Peace Be Upon Him taught us this... Yes, we will triumph, pray in Jerusalem and take revenge on the filthy murderers we will kill them wherever we find them, as the Holy Koran told us [referring to the verse in the Koran which begins: "And kill them wherever you find them " Sura 2, verse 191] we will make them taste the taste of death, in which they became masters all over the Islamic and Arab lands Yes, we will kill them, and I swear that if I get the chance, I won't miss it since I believe in Allah and his Messenger, and I know that this world is nothing but the enjoyment of a delusion [another Koranic reference]Therefore I want to be proud that I'm a Muslim Arab

who doesn't believe in the Arab borders [he is a Baathist/nationalist Arab who believes in Arab unity "from the Maghreb to the Gulf"]. This is important not only for its unmistakable message of genocide against Jews, but from the perspective of the Arab honor/shame mentality. Batayena is writing exclusively from the point of view of Arabs being deeply humiliated by the very existence not only of Israel, but of Arabs who dare make peace with Israel. While this level of vitriol is unusual in even for the Arab media, it is clear that his point of view is not anomalous or even unusual. {h/t Ibn Boutros]

Egyptian Politician Khaled Zaafrani: Jews Use Human Blood for Passover Matzos14
Al-Hafez TV (Saudi Arabia/Egypt) - May 12, 2013 - 02:27
Following are excerpts from a TV show with Khaled Al-Zaafrani, founder of the Egyptian Justice and Progress Party, which aired on Al-Hafez TV on May 12, 2013. Khaled Al-Zaafrani: It is the Jews who have instigated wars in the world. They instigated World War I, as well as World War II, and they will keep on instigating wars. The Jews cannot live without wars, conspiracies, deceit, and deception. We can rest assured that the Jews will not seek or uphold peace. [] It s well known that during the Passover, they make matzos called the "Blood of Zion." They take a Christian child, slit his throat and slaughter him. Then they take his blood and make their [matzos]. This is a very important rite for the Jews, which they never forgo. Interviewer: Could you repeat the name of this rite? Khaled Al-Zaafrani: It is called the Blood of Zion rite. During the Jews Passover, they must slaughter TV guest: Like [ancient] Egyptians used to sacrifice "the Bride of the Nile" Interviewer: And the Jews do this to this day? Khaled Al-Zaafrani: Absolutely. The French kings and the Russian czars discovered this in the Jewish quarters. All the massacring of Jews that occurred in those countries were because they discovered that the Jews had kidnapped and slaughtered children, in order to make the Passover matzos. Recorded evidence of this is kept in the Egyptian national archives. This happens to this day.

[] Passover was near, and the Jews of Damascus could not find a Christian. There was a Christian priest, who would give them medical treatment. He was of Italian and French nationality, and his job was to treat people. He used to treat the Jews, but since they couldn't find any other Christian, they summoned him to treat them Their confessions are well documented. They placed the priest in a tub, slaughtered him, smashed his bones with a pestle, took his blood, and made the "matzos of Zion." Interviewer: Are these matzos eaten? Khaled Al-Zaafrani: Of course. They slice it and fight over who gets to eat Christian blood. When this subject is raised, the Jews consider it to be a problem, just like the problem of Hitler and the Holocaust. []

Khaybar transcripts of sneak previews15

Following are excerpts from the first two episodes of a Syrian anti-Semitic TV series, titled "Khaybar," which is scheduled to be aired during the month of Ramadhan in a few weeks' time. The first two episodes were unofficially posted on the Internet on June 13, 2013. (1) Scene showing Jewish workers making swords Huyay, a Jewish leader: You are still working on it, Shmuel? Shmuel, a sword maker: We will be done today. Shmuel's son Yousuf (to Huyay): When will these wars be over, sir? Huyay: Your son is asking you, Shmuel. Answer him. Shmuel: Stop babbling, and get back to work. Huyay: Listen, Yousuf. We supply the demand. When there is no demand, we will have no livelihood. Get it? Yousuf: Then our daily bread is soaked with the blood of others. Shmuel: I told you to stop babbling and get back to work.

(2) Scene showing Huyay discussing the use of a non-Jewish fighter as a mercenary with the Jews of Khaybar Jew from Khaybar: I refuse to use non-Jews [as mercenaries]. Huyay: What harm can there be in using strong non-Jewish fighters? If we arm and train them, they will be loyal to us. We are busy with our industry and trade. We are not cut out for fighting. Jew from Khaybar: Mercenary soldiers? Huyay: Why not? [] Another Jew from Khaybar: The truth is that [Miqdad] is a true warrior, but using him or men like him will not get us to a safe haven, oh Jews of Yathrib. First Jew from Khaybar: That is the question, Huyay. We shouldn't be arguing this way. You have a weapon mightier than the sword. Huyay: What do you mean? Jew from Khaybar: Cleverness. You can instigate civil strife. This is the source of their weakness and our strength. [] (3) Scene in the marketplace Servant of Shas bin Qays (a rabbi and rich merchant): Oh merchants, Shas bin Qays has come to the market to prophesize good fortune to whoever deserves it. My master, the master of rabbis, and the greatest merchant, Shas bin Qays, has come to the market to prophesize good fortune to whoever deserves it. Jew from Yathrib: Welcome, blessed one. May your visit bring us good fortune. Shas bin Qays: Good fortune for whoever deserves it, obeys the God of Moses and His priests, and does not deny the prophecies. [] Nobody listens to me. I prophesize your fate, which does not please you. Greed blinds you, oh Jews. I foresee days as dark as night ahead of you, oh sinners. Huyay: I want you to set fire to the place where most of the Khazraj tribe lives, and to kill whoever you want from among them. Miqdad, a nomad from Hadhramaut: You want me to kill them and burn down their homes? Huyay: This will be very beneficial to others. Didn't we say we shouldn't argue? Miqdad: I have no quarrel with them, and even if I had, it is not in my nature to let defenseless women, children, and elderly pay the price. Huyay: Fine, so you have to decide if you want to buy your freedom, or stay here until you die. Miqdad: Soil your own hands. I won't do it. Huyay: Lock the door. Miqdad is locked in [] (4) Scene showing masked figures setting fire to homes under cover of darkness Yousuf, sitting with Afra, a non-Jewish girl, gets up to see what is going on Yousuf (to Afra): Stay here, or go home. Yousuf sets out on horseback to see what is happening and encounters people fleeing from the village, some being slaughtered by masked men Yousuf: I can't believe my eyes. They are all wearing masks. I swear that this is a conspiracy. []
