Optivent Basic and Plus will give you low operating costs over time
Ventilation and air conditioning require the supply of energy, primarily in the form of electrical energy, to fans and refrigerating machines. To achieve an energyefcient system with the lowest life cycle cost (LCC), it is important to adapt the technical solution in line with the specic needs in a given building its various rooms. These needs are determined in turn by a number of different factors, including the type of building and the type of activity undertaken in the premises. Variations in occupancy level and in the number of persons who are present in a room over time (loading) are signicant factors to be taken into account when choosing a technical solution. The air that we breathe out makes humans the largest source of carbon dioxide (CO2) inside a room. For this reason, the level of CO2 in a room can be used as a reliable indicator of the loading and, as a result, the air quality in a room. An increase in the number of persons in a room also causes an increase in the level of CO2, and conversely the level of CO2 falls proportionally as the number of persons in a room decreases. Dynamically varying the air ow according to the actual loading, based on temperature, occupancy, CO2 level or a combination of these parameters, brings several advantages. You can ensure good air quality and a comfortable indoor climate at the same time as you avoid unnecessary ventilation and save energy as a result.

Fixed Flow This provides a system with a constant ow without the possibility of adaptation according to the prevailing load inside the premises.

GOOD
Guaranteed benets: Level of CO2 Velocity within the occupied space Noise generation Temperature gradient
Optivent Basic Here the ow inside the premises is adapted according to the loading to give the right ow at all times. Regulation is via a temperature sensor, occupancy or CO2.

BETTER
Optivent Plus Here you have a rst-class indoor climate. The active air terminal device ensures good remixing and reduces the risk of draughts, including at low ows. This is achieved by the active air terminal device maintaining a constant outlet velocity despite variations in the ow rate. Regulation takes place in the same way as for Optivent Basic.

Exhaust air terminal devices & transfer air devices

A supply air system is not complete unless the supplied air is removed in an effective and quiet manner. A wide range of exhaust air terminal devices is available. Wall, ceiling, small ows and large ows in the same device. Transfer air devices are available in round or rectangular form. Devices treated with CleanVent give a cleaner device over time.

Flow variator EMS

See your air ow in real time, and set minimum and maximum ow in a simple way on the integral display. EMS is non pressure-dependent and can be balanced after installation. A screwdriver is the only tool you need. EMS is available in sizes 100630 mm and has a ow range of 72493 l/s.

Temperature regulation
Suitable for premises with a high occupancy level and a uniform loading. Via the integral temperature sensor or STRZ-05 external temperature sensor, a pre-set temperature is maintained in the room regardless of the loading.

Optivent Basic/Plus

Flow measurement device EMSF

EMSF is used when you have a system with transferred air from rooms and a centrally located exhaust air terminal device. EMSF measures the sum of all the supply air in a zone transmits a signal to a ow variator EMS in the exhaust air duct. A balance between the supply air and the exhaust air in the zone is created in this way.

Occupancy regulation
Suitable for premises with a low or variable occupancy level and a uniform loading. Equipping the regulator with an occupancy sensor STRZ-09 provides a function in which the regulator regulates the temperature when someone is present in the room. When the room is unmanned, the regulator switches to an economy mode and produces a saving in energy.

Room controller STRA

Flkt Woods room controller STRA-04 has been specially developed to create an energy-efcient and good indoor climate. It is supplied with a user-friendly display where all necessary settings can be carried out simply. For connection to an overriding system (property automation), STRA has Modbus communication as standard. STRA has an integral temperature sensor and allows a large number of accessories such as an occupancy sensor, CO2 sensor and external temperature sensor.

Selecting an appropriate control methodology

CO2 regulation
Suitable for premises with large variations between high and low loading by persons who are present. Supplementing the system with an STRZ-18 CO2 produces a function in which the regulator increases the ventilation ow if the CO2 level exceeds a pre-set maximum threshold value. A good air quality is assured in this way regardless of the loading, at the same time as unnecessary ventilation can be avoided.

Choose the correct Optivent system according to your needs

To create a productive indoor climate where people feel well and perform well and, at the same time, to minimize energy consumption, calls for a ventilation system that is adapted to the actual task. Factors to be considered when choosing a technical solution include the type of activity that takes place in the room, but also the way in which the room is used over time. A school can be used as an example to illustrate this.

Project design tips when working with Optivent

1
Terminal device
Start by choosing your terminal device by using our ExSelAir product selection program. you can use EMS alone for the supply air. You can then allow the exhaust air to exit v the transfer air device. To achieve a via b balance between the supply air and the e exhaust air in a solution of this kind, the EMSF ow sensor is positioned ahead o the rst off-shoot in the supply air duct. of T measures the sum of all the supply This a that passes through and transmits a air s slave signal to an EMS. This regulates t ow in the central exhaust air terminal the d device. where you need to have constant ows. If the variations are too high, you can simply use EMS, as a constant ow device, in order to assure these ows. A typical example can be a toilet unit.

Units with accessories

Stock room
Provided that what is kept in the stock room does not impose special demands on the indoor climate, Fixed Flow is a cost-effective alternative for this type of room in most cases.

Classroom for approx. 30 pupils

A high occupancy level and uniform loading are often encountered in a classroom, i.e. the classroom is in use essentially throughout the day with fairly brief interruptions for breaks, and the number of pupils is relatively constant over time. Optivent Basic is recommended for a room of this kind, in which the air ow is varied according to the actual loading by regulation of the temperature. This system can be supplemented with CO2 regulation so that a good air quality can also be assured in the event of high loading by persons who are present. By further supplementing the system with occupancy control, an energy saving is obtained when the room is empty by the regulator switching to an economy mode.

Group room for approx. 10 persons

Optivent Plus with an active supply air terminal device, and temperature and occupancy control is recommended for a typical group room which often has a low occupancy level and varying loading. The system can also be supplemented with CO2 regulation. A good indoor climate is obtained in this way, and unnecessary ventilation when the room is empty or only partially manned can be avoided at the same time. The active supply air terminal device ensures good remixing and minimizes the risk of draught problems at low air ows.

The next step is to select the EMS type, EMSS, EMSD or EMOS/E and size. When selecting the size, you must take account of the ow range of the particular size. Balance in the room or transferred air to a centrally located exhaust air terminal device? If you wish to have balance in the room, you should use an EMS for the supply air and an EMS for the exhaust air. These can either be controlled in parallel by the same signal, or you can select master/ slave control. If you choose to have a centrally located exhaust air terminal device,

Room controllers

EMS processes 0/2-10V signals both as input signals and as output signals. It is also possible to force the damper via closing contacts to a set minimum or maximum value, fully open damper or fully closed damper. STRA04 has been specially developed for se Optivent Bas and Plus. You can choose uto regulate by temperature, CO2, occu. pancy or with a combination of these.

Do you have a requirement that all rooms will need to be capable of producing maximum ows at the same time, or do you anticipate that there will be a certain absence at all times? This combined effect factor affects the requirement for performance in the unit and, as a consequence of this, you can sometimes go down in both unit size and duct dimensions. Whatever the case, you must ensure that the unit is capable of handling both the design minimum and maximum ows. The choice of cooling system, for example, can also affect the ow range.

The system

Do you mix areas with variable ows and constant ows? If so, you should check how different operating modes affect the spaces
