We the parishioners of Saint Michael the Archangel, through leadership and strong traditions are faithful disciples of the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church. We commit ourselves to be generous stewards of our faith, our parish, and our community. We strive to involve all members to be united in one parish family for the salvation of all. Notes from the Pastor: Anniversaries are Gods blessings both for the celebrant or celebrants and the people or community who celebrates with them. A wedding anniversary is a blessing not just for the couple and family but also to the whole parish community. Thats why I always encourage all of you, no matter how shy you are, to celebrate your wedding anniversary publicly. I always tried to celebrate my anniversary of ordination with the community as the priesthood belongs to the community. Thats what we did last April on my 27th year. As I have mentioned last weeks bulletin, I am now into my third year as your pastor here at the parishes of Saint Michael and Saint Joseph. Like wedding anniversaries and my ordination, I also celebrated this with praise and thanksgiving. It certainly gives me an opportunity to thank God again and to humbly recognize the gift of service that He has given me. I did not merit this service. It is certainly a precarious gift flowing from Gods loving mercy. Secondly, it is also an opportunity to examine what we have done in the parish? Am I shepherding the parish to the direction God wants us to be? In my reflection, I come to the certainty, based on the churchs documents and most of all of my loyalty to the hierarchy, that we are heading in the right direction. First I am grateful again for all our volunteers in the many ministries that are going on in the parish. May God bless them always for their dedication and unselfish offering of their time, talent, and treasure! But as a parish we need to move as one body. Hence, it is not just making things happen, but that things happen because a group of parishioners united together, do it. While we appreciate individual efforts, it is teamwork (as in team sports) that is most important! If some things are done by lone rangers it is not really good, because it is not the community that does it! The danger here is the great temptation of pride, taking personal credit for actions! If not for me, that could not have been done! This is the pharisaical attitude that our Lord Jesus criticized. The positive aspect of individual efforts is that it provides an opportunity for the community to see and Next Sunday(06/30/13) 10:00 AM E. Wilson, T. Paoni, I. Fisher, G. Born, M. Reif Anna Goble Beth Wilson Joe & Rose Murnane reflect that they need to get involve. This is what I wanted to point out and the direction we should be heading. The challenges that have been facing us since I got here persisted to drag our growth both spiritually and physically. I am referring to the challenge of getting more people involved. Last year I already mentioned this; there are some who take heed, but there are still more that need to be touched. Of course, it is only with Gods grace that we can serve Him. I will continue to pray and I ask all of you to pray that more people will be moved to His service in the community! God bless you all! Fr. The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived This coming Monday, June 24, the Church will celebrate the birthday of St. John, Last Week July 2012 to date the Baptist. This is a big deal, for the Church only celebrates the birthdays on earth of Contributions $2,314.50 $134,166.50 three: Our Lord, His Mother, and St. John, the Baptist. You would think that St. Peter Children's Offering $11.25 $1,236.06 would be more important than John. Not so, according to Church Fathers. It was John who concluded the Old Testament and broke into the New Testament. He introduced Expenses $126,248.56 Our Lord to the world--the One whose shoelaces he was not worthy to untie. He was the prophet, the last of the Old Law, and the Forerunner, therefore, of Jesus, the Messiah. Since St. John was born free of original sin, his Saint Michaels Upcoming Events birthday is celebrated instead of the day of his death, as is usual with the saints. From the beginning, the lifestyles of John and Jesus differed. John was an Old TesFinance Council Parish Council tament prophet who preached sin and repentance. He is the stern ascetic who July 11th at 5:00pm September 10th at 6:30pm expected the crowds to come to him. Humility: Guardian of All the Virtues When the seven deadly sins come up, most of us immediately think of Pride as the worst--the Mother of all vices, since most sins can be traced to it. It was through pride that the devil became the devil. Pride was also the sin of our First Parents, who wanted to be as great as God. A proud individual believes himself as the source of his own excellence. The Virtue of Humility causes us to acknowledge our limitations; therefore, its the opposite of Pride. We spend so much time seeking honor, to be chosen, and to avoid being forgotten. Without such ambitions, wed have more time to truly live. Humility is the basic guardian of all the virtues. St. Teresa said that humility was the truth, and the truth of the matter is that every good thing we have comes from God. How do we grow in humility? What do the saints recommend? 1)do all in your power to stop sinning. Thats the biggest step on the road to pleasing God. 2) do stop worrying so much about yourself. Flattery can be deceiving and rank doesnt produce self-worth. This also means not to demean or debase oneself. 3) be willing to accept correction from others. The humble person sees correction not as a put down, but as an opportunity to grow. Jesus words: Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart St. Paul warned: Your attitude must be that of Christ..He emptied Himself and took the form of a slave, being born in the likeness of men...humbling Himself, obediently accepting even death, death on a cross! Church scholars agree that the greatest example of humility was the Incarnation. To make gains of this difficult virtue, we must forget self and remember Christ. As soon as humility takes up residence in the soul, all the other virtues come racing in! Articles by Marcel Normand
