Topic 1/2/3: PREFERENCE 3 Name of project: CENTRE FOR FASHION DEVELOPMENT,DELHI Location of project: The proposed site for fashion hub is located at Maidan Garhi, adjacent to
the Indira Gandhi National Open University, Delhi-national capital territory of India. It is described as a leading fashion city (ref: Global Language Monitor ) in India. It has seen a wide growth and change in the field of fashion in recent times. It is the place of origin for many of the well known fashion designers in India .The announcement, made by Minister of State for Urban Development Hon. Ajay Maken at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) 2009 has added flavor to its development. The site, located in the capital of our country which is now a major cultural, political, and commercial center and also one of the major tourist attractive places, ensures the success of the proposed fashion hub. INTRODUCTION: Its a live project; work has not been commenced yet. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has already demarcated an area in south Delhi for the proposed fashion hub, work on which is expected to begin in the current financial year. The proposed hub will be under the administrative control of the textiles ministry through a public private partnership, as suggested by the Planning Commission. This public private partnership will ensure speedy execution of this large scale project. It will enable the coming together of the government and the fashion industry. This will broaden the spectrum of the Indian fashion fraternity in every sense and will take Indian fashion to a different level altogether. This can be considered as a real nice futuristic approach. The proposal for a fashion hub was framed in order to address a long-standing demand of the designer fraternity and on the basis of a brief survey carried out to gauge the need for it to bridge the gaps in development within the industry and promote young talent and catering to the needs and interests of fashion designers, models, students and fashionistas. This project includes hosting market meets, fashion shows during all the seasons, offer a wide variety of designer wear products from the Indian fashion manufacturing industry through a permanent exhibition, provide facilities of design, research on products and manufacturers, fashion photo shoots, etc. produce publicity material, literature on a wide range of fashion business related issues.

SITE AREA: 10 ACRE

Spatial Requirements: The Fashion Hub will accommodate the following spaces in its
format: Designers office, boutiques and Studios Workshops and classrooms for students to get trained under the renowned fashion designers (special and vocational courses on fashion and textile designing, lifestyle accessories (jewels, Shoes, Bags, Belts, Hats, Sun glasses, Boots) design) Exhibition halls and auditoriums to display the students works and host fashion shows A business center with meeting rooms for promoting interaction between the fashion designers and models from the country and across the globe A museum to house the textile and fashion heritage of the country Fashion information, library and resource centre Research and development center and an incubation centre Refreshment zone (lounge, cafeterias, restrooms)

Aims and objectives of project: To promote the study of fashion designing as an art and
medium of education To promote the development of fashion products appreciation among the public in general. To create a stage for business marketing to spread the essence of Indian fashion across the globe and together knowledge of international trends. To act as a permanent Fashion Gallery that will project the image of contemporary India displaying the modern look of India on one hand along with showcasing the rich Indian heritage and its prowess in craftsmanship that is passed on from one generation to the other.

To create a hub which will serve the purpose of a permanent market-place for the Indian fashion industry to further their business transactions and continue to nurture Indian Fashion industry in times to come. This will create enormous synergy between the various components of the fashion industry.
