TERMNOLOGIES OF RESEARCH

Research:
A systematical, analytical, scientific and objective investigation of any phenomenon.

Applied Research:
A research type focusing on practical issues and seeking solutions.

Basic Research:
A research type focusing purely on discovering new knowledge; it is pure research.

Correlational Research:
A research type elaborating the statistical relationship between two or more variables.

Data:
Items or units of information collected through social research.

Empirical Data:

Data gathered by means of sensory experience.

Experiment:
A research method that studies predominantly causal relationships under systematic and controlled conditions.

Interview:
A method of data collection that gathers information through oral questioning.

Survey:
A method of data collections employing a systematic and structured verbal or written questioning.

Validity:
A property of a research instrument which measures its relevance, Precision and accuracy.

Verification:
The process of empirical validation, mainly of hypothesis.

Hypothesis:
Hypothesis is an educated guess.

Population:
The whole area or the community on research is being conducted.

Sample:

Sample is a subset of a population.

Sampling:
Its a process to draw subsets from a population.

Probability Sampling:
Probability is the known chances of selection of a particular idea.

Non_Probability Sampling:
In non_probability, the chances of selection are unknown.

Concept
That expresses an abstract idea, mental images or perceptions. It is impossible to observe directly a concept. Concept usually comprises on single category value. Many concepts contain several categories or values.

Construct:
It is a combination of concepts. It usually cant be observed directly.

Variable:
"A concept that can take on more than one value along a continuum is called a variable.

Independent Variable:

Independent Variable The cause variable, or the one that identifies forces or conditions that act on something else, is the independent variable.

Dependent Variable:
Dependent Variable The variable that is the effect or is the result or outcome of another variable is the dependent variable.

Proposition:
Simply a statement about one or more concepts or variables. It is not made for test.

Simple Random Sampling:

This is a type of probability sampling, in which all individuals must have an equal chance of being selected.

Systematic Random Sampling:

This is such a type of probability sampling, in which random sampling is done under a system and according to rule.
