Dr. B, My main source of information was taken from your Heart Walk Information link. I verified the information online at web links such as: http://www.centralfloridafuture.com/knights-join-in-walk-to-end-heart-disease-1.2630328, http://www.heartwalk.org/site/c.rjJ0J6MHIoE/b.5767983/k.619D/Heart_Walk__Get_Involved.htm, http://today.ucf.edu/knights-to-walk-for-heart-health/, http://www.heartwalk.org/site/pp.aspx?comp=&c=rjJ0J6MHIoE&b=5795495, http://www.kintera.org/faf/search/searchTeamPart.asp?ievent=1008015&lis=1&kntae1008015=C23 B9797A9A94E28A83F6A0A6D4C9A14&team=4983154&tlteam=4955436, http://today.ucf.edu/ucf-goes-red-for-heart-health/. If for example, I wasnt sure how to spell Gordon/en, then I did a general search online. I was also able to search for team captains on the heartwalk.org site. Finding the information online was important in determining the conventions used in genres you asked us to emulate/edit. Initially, I felt like this assignment was more about macro- than micro-editing; however, I soon realized that this assignment differed from the others in that it needed macro-editing as much as it did micro. The assignments as outlined in the table of contents went from the least editing needed to the most. For example, the email from the Provost was the most straightforward needing more micro-editing efforts than macro because of its fact-giving nature. The brochure took me the longest to complete not because it needed the most macro-editing but because it required the most fact-checking out of all the assignments and more micro-editing in formatting as well. The UCFToday news story needed more macro-editing initially to make sure I followed the pyramid outline. I then compared last years statistics and efforts with this years. One example was in trying to locate how much the Greater Orlando Heart Walk raised last year. The micro-edits came next in which I was checking UCFTodays writing conventions for things like dates, $s, and time. The presidents speech was the hardest to check. I tried searching for previous speeches given by the president addressing the Heart Walk but wasnt able to find as much as I would have liked, so I actually felt like I was doing more writing than editing. In this regard, it was helpful having 3 speeches to go by in order to understand the moves typically made in his speeches. Thank you for your help, Christian

! Did you know that cardiovascular disease is the No. 5 killer of all Americans? In fact, someone dies from CVD every 38 seconds! Heart disease also kills more women than all forms of cancer combined. And congenital cardiovascular defects are the most common cause of infants deaths from birth defects.

The funds you raise in the Heart Walk will support projects like these: Groundbreaking pediatric heart and stroke research. About 36,000 babies are born with heart defects each year research is the key to saving babies lives. UCFToday News Story

Later this year, UCF students will be joining the community in a walk to end heart disease. This years Greater Orlando Heart Walk, sponsored by the American Heart Association, will begin at Loch Haven Park, 900 E. Princeton St., Orlando on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 7:30 a.m. So far, the Greater Orlando Area has raised almost $450,000 to help heart health research, but there is still a long way to go to reach last years mark of $1.1 million. Currently, the Twin Cities MN leads all efforts nationwide with $2.1 million. The Heart Walk is a family-friendly event that encourages people to take steps toward a heart-healthy lifestyle while raising funds to fight heart disease and stroke, said UCF Provost and Executive Vice President Tony G. Waldrop. With your help, we can raise money to aid researchers on combating heart disease. Theres plenty of time for more teams to be formed and join the nine that will appear at UCFs Heart Walk Kick-Off breakfast on June 15, 7:30 9:00 a.m. at the Student Union, Gordon Key, 221. Simply go to www.GreaterOrlandoHeartWalk.org to register your own team. There are two walks to choose from, either the mile or 3.1 mile walk.

For more information & if you would like to attend the post-event celebration on October 1, contact UCFs Heart Walk representative, Maritza Martinez at 407.235.3935 or email her at Martiza.Martinez@ucf.edu.

President Hitts Speech

Post-event Celebration Heart Walk Breakfast October 1, 2012 8:30-10:00 a.m. Student Union, Key West Ballroom

Your task: Welcome

[Welcome the UCF participants, thank them for attending, and thank them for their commitment to the American Heart Association and UCFs continued efforts in partnering with the community . . .]

At UCF, we wage the fight against heart disease through our medical efforts and research. With your support and leadership, we continue to bring great awareness to a disease that is the No. 1 killer of women in America, more deadly than all forms of cancer combined.

Last year, our campaign was a great success. Our goal was $30,000, and we raised over $37,000. Half of the proceeds went to UCFs research teams, Florida Hospital, and the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute. This year our goal is $40,000. We can do that! With your leadership, we can do that and more.

[Anything personal you want to say] My mother use to say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. You continue to remind me that we can stop heart disease before it even starts. Lets keep it simple by making one change
today and then we're ready to make another. Before we know it we've stopped making poor

choices, and started making life choices!

In a very real and immediate way, your generosity and commitment to the American Heart Association continues to save lives across our community, the nation, and the world.

Thank you for participating in this important community effort. And, thank you for your personal leadership gift and for encouraging the generous participation of your colleagues.
