SCOPE
I I 1.1 1.2 This Engineering Guide covers the fabrication and installation of support stands for the mounting of field instruments. An asterisk () indicates that a decision by the Owners Engineer is required, that additional information is to be furnished by the Owners Engineer, or information for approval is to be supplied by the vendor or contractor. Instrument supports other than described herein shall not be used unless approved by Owners Engineer.

1.3

SUMMARY OF ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

I 2.1 Table 1 lists the practices that shall be used with this Engineering Guide. TABLE 1
PRACTICES IP 19-1-1 Paint and Protective Coatings

FABRICATION
I I I 3.1 3.2 3.3 All material used in fabrication shall be new. All pipe supports shall be fabricated from 2-in., schedule 40, carbon steel pipe. Exposed ends of pipe support shall be capped with 2-in., butt weld pipe cap. Weld all around.

INSTALLATION
I,M 4.1 Instruments, which are not line or vessel mounted, shall be mounted with the horizontal centerline of the instrument 4 ft 6 in. above grade or platform. More than one instrument may be mounted on any support. When necessary to mount more than one instrument on a support, the minimum height of the lowest instrument above grade or platform shall be 3 ft. Each instrument shall be accessible for maintenance. Instruments mounted near railings shall be mounted on supports located outside of railing and shall leave unobstructed clearance of 3 in. minimum between the railing and the instrument or support. See Figure 8. When mounting a support on concrete, use 1/2 in. diameter stud anchors with zinc plated studs, washers, and nuts. Imbed the stud anchor a minimum of 2-1/4 in. into the concrete. Provide a 1 in. grout under the base plate. Support Figures 6 and 7 are normally welded to the pipe. This type of support attachment should not be used on stress relieved pipe unless the support attachment weld is also stress relieved. With approval of the Owners Engineer, pipe clamps may be used for stress relieved lines and for other situations where welding on the line is impractical.
