Personal statement Your personal statement should be no more than 50 words and describe how you can help an employer to prosper. Be careful to avoid clichs and tell the recruiter something unique. Take a look at Make a personal statement for more guidance. Key skills and achievements Focus on the skills and experience that supports your personal statement. List up to five examples; explain what you did, how you did it and what was achieved. Career summary List your employment history in reverse order, starting with your most recent job first. Contact Details Remember, we need to know your name and how to contact you, make sure the contact details are correct, you would be amazed how many people write down the wrong email address or leave an old mobile number on their new CV. Personal Statement Tailor your statement to the role youre applying for. If the role you are applying for is that working abroad as a Head Chef dont say you want a job in London as a restaurant manager.

Key Skills Remember most companies use search databases to find applicants on file. List your key skills to help you get to the top of the list

Work experience List the most recent experience first, continuing in reverse chronological order. Describe your work experience in short sentences using straightforward, positive language and highlight your key achievements. Make sure it is up to date which means right up to the date that you are sending it on. If there are gaps in your CV make sure they are explained, I.E, I was Ill, looking after a sick relative, on holiday, stuck in a dust cart etc. By leaving gaps you are giving people reasons not to interview you, and you want to be interviewed so you can get e new job. Training and Education Include specific skills such as IT packages or languages and state whether you're at a basic, intermediate or advanced level. Its important you include terms used in job adverts that you are interested in because we recruiters will use these to filter CVs when we are searching our databases. Awards and memberships of professional bodies List brief details of your academic and professional qualifications along with the grades attained. Applicants looking for their first job since leaving education should include this information above their work experience. Interests and Hobbies List brief details of your interests. & hobbies. Interest and hobbies will give the interviewer a more rounded picture and are evidence of self-motivation and commitment. Think about what you put down though, make them work for you and not against. References State that details (email addresses) of at least three references that will be able to offer you a good working reference. If this is your first job, it is a good idea to nominate tutors or mentors. Do not forget to ask your referees first for permission to cite them. . Presentation Keep your CV to two / three pages. It should look clean and tidy with no frills or fancy attachments, and all the information should be clearly signposted. If you are printing and posting your CV, stick to good quality white paper.
