Executive Summary

The purpose or main ideas of this research paper was to try to understand the effect of leadership competency in management. The research for our report tries to define the differences between leadership and management. In addition, this research paper discusses how the changes in the atmosphere of handling business in the organizations effect and improve the leadership competency. Also, this research paper we try to review the relationship between leadership competency and innovation in face of new challenges like globalization. The major outputs of our research indicate that the leadership competency is constantly changing as long as there are needs for more creative managers with advanced skills. Furthermore, we find that the top levels of managers in an organization needed higher skills of leadership. Also, this research paper indicate that any successful organization must prepare for the future and that including a long run plan for the changes in management under vision of the organization. Without any doubt it is obvious that leadership competency had a great effect in management, this research paper recommends that managers must be informed about the nowadays challenges like globalization, managing risk, diversity of stakeholders and economic challenge. So from that, improving leadership competency it is a great deal to managers so they can handle their organizations interest very well. It is hard obligation for both the organization and managers to try keep up with all this challenges, so the managers must try to exploit any opportunity for enhancing their to develop their experience and knowledge because at the end it will have a clear impact on the performance of the entire organization.

Introduction:

Leadership is one of the most discussed topics and researched topics in human behavior in a organizational or managerial way. There was a study in 1999 that there were about 2,000 books published that had Leadership as a main topic. And there is still much to learn about it. There are many ways that leadership can be defined, used and implemented.

Leadership is a power to change the environment of the work place so that everyone can contribute creatively and efficiently in order to solve a problem. And when it is said that leadership is a power or ability, it means that a leader gained that power and ability through talent and skill, where talent is an ability that a human is born with, but skill is proficiency that can be obtained and taught by experience and training. Offcource talent helps the person to become a better leader but it isnt enough, there a many people with no natural leadership ability but by experience, training and most importantly by being persistence became one the greatest leaders a person could ever meet.

Leadership is accommodative, meaning that the leader makes the necessary adjustments to the workplace. It also act as a setting, meaning that a leader adjusts to the surrounding environment and people, carefully observing and looking for a way to adapt the setting to make it the most effective and efficient. Leadership also empowers others, which mean that a leader can inspires confidence and self-esteem into others. And there are many ways to get that inspiration. Some leaders may inspire by talking boldly or softly to others, and others lead by example.

There are numerous ways to empower rather than just a single way. All leadership competencies are behaviors and skills that promote a very high level performance. Using a competency-based method to leadership, firms and organizations can find and develop their new leaders. Focusing on leadership competencies and the development of skills lead to superior leadership but the skills that is needed to a cretin position may vary depending on level of leadership that is needed within the organization. So by using the competency approach, the firm can find specific competencies at the positions and levels that are required. Researchers have found and identified some of the important leadership competencies that are a core value for an organization.

Management and leadership:

The key success factor in being a good leader is to understand the changes that come along in the business environment, and within that environment comes the important and essential role of management. Combining leadership and management will help an organization built its way into a better future.

The role of mangers is to maximize the efficiency of the firm in order to reach its goals. Leadership and management may look like they are the same thing and that is not true, they work well together but differ in small fundamental areas, however they set the same set of skills and tasks. Management is a general way in the controlling the activities within the business organization while leadership on the other hand is more interested in the forward movement or the growth of the firm or the organization.

There are skills that represent management such as keeping track of the progress and ensuring that the work at hand gets completed effectively, supervise operation and procedures and making sure that everyone is doing their work efficiently. While some of the leadership skills involve maintaining a good relationship within the team and motivating the team members, leaders should also lead by example they dont always say, they do. So management and leadership although being different in the essence, combining the skills of both of them will be a great combination and will get produce good outcomes for the organization.

The objective of this research paper is to discuss the role of leadership competency in management by highlighting and defining the important parts of both leadership and management such as the skills needed to for being a good manager and leader also showing the main differences between them and also how combining them can lead the organization to reach its goal. And by discussing topics that relate to the main theme in order to present summaries and present Recommendations to managers and managerial implications.

The implementation of diversity policies will provide a creative environment for the employees to be more productive. The leadership of successful organization must know the best ways to use their organizations resources efficiently, which increase the productivity of the organization and in the meanwhile reduce the cost. Our report adds that when the leadership of an organization imposes more aggressive competitive strategies, which in turn will have a positive effect on the organization position in the market as a major player against the other competitors.
