the Church Missionary .Board informa-
tion as to putting out and receiving
hack the ''missionary envelope,'' but
the Board says, "Now what7" Well,
having collected the envelopes the last
of the month, the Church Missionary
Board will arrange for a regular
monthly. missionary prayer meetin'g,
usually to be held on a week-night, st
which time the Church Miss"ionary
Board will spend much time in prayer.
At said meeting the envelopes are to be
opened and the .. contents emptied into
a pile, and the total offerings for the
past month counted and banded to the
treasurer of the Church Missionary
Board, who will keep an accurate ac-
count of . tlie same and . forward it at .
once to the treasurer of th9 Division in
which ihe church 'is located, who will
send a r eceipt for the same back to
the said treasurer, who will keep that
as his voucher for the money received
and paid out. In no case send mission-

Do not send missionary money to

and loss of time.
Tell the Pastor.
Tell the pastor the amount of the
missionary money r eceived last month
from the envelopes, and ask him to .
kindly notify the congregation the fol-

pray for the money given and the .

J?es Arc, Mo. _ .
I arrived iri Des Arc on . Thursday,
January. 7th, and was detained at our
South Eastern Missouri Holiness Col-

throtl.gh the courtesy of our secrE:tary,
Rev. W. W. Strother, and wife; . Rev.
J. W. Smith, professor of Greek, and
Sister .Gater, principal, I . became well
acquainted with our institution, held
two chapel services, which were prec-

large amomit of desk work, and over-
hauled my trunk, located some of our
new Churches on the map, etc.
Our college at this point is doing good
work, and like all of our other holi-
ness institution!? is passing through the
''hardening processes,'' but it shows
signs of life and of ''the more abundant
life.'' It has forty-two students, three
able teachers, one g.ood building, sev-
eral acres of Jand, seven acres of which
are reserved for school buildings and
and the balance of which is
being sold for building lots. Already

that their pastor be ordained, that he
might be fully equipped to- do the
work of the pastor in that great and
isolated field.
A New Sunday School.
We were permitted to &ttend .the sec-

at Ellington;- It was born on Sunday,
January.lOth, and born alive, .with fifty-
five members. This will make an addi-

Ellington, Mo.
On Saturday, Janu:).ry 9th, with Bro.
Strother we drove to Ellington, Rey-
nolds county, Mo., thirty miles through
the woods, wading streams, brooks and
, Black river, frequently the water reach-
ing the horses' necks, and nearly zero
weather, it might be called a ride,
and in all the distance there was but
one bridge and that was over a dry
gulley. The houses were far apart;
few people, some sheep, a few cattle,
horses and mules; and hogs-woods full .
of them.
We had a missionary service Satur-
day night, with a congregation of about
250. The dear Lord was present in
and ''our folks'' were greatly
encouraged, as they saw what a large
family they belong to, and praised the
Lord with a loud voice. After the serv-
ice a business meeting. was . held and
the Church organization perfected; .it
having been organized only . th:ree
. months, had not elected_ all of its com-
mittees and officers. The Church Boarq
ducing ouT envelope system which our
Church wjll install next month, and a
few remarks by Bro. Strother about our
college at Des Arc, we closed a most
precious season of fellowship and com-
munion with the saints at Ellington.
A New Church Building.
Although it is less than three months
since our general superintendent, E. P.
Ellyson, organized this Church, they
-have gone on and erected a good Church
house that will seat from four . to five
hundred people, at an expense of about
$1250, and have it about half paid for
and the balance on easy terms.
A Great Center.
Ellington is a great center for a good
work of holiness. There were at the
services Saturday night and Sunday
morning saved and unsaved people that
had come fifteen miles to the service,
aild 'it is a common thing to have people
come ten to fifteen miles to our week
night service there. Let all of God's
children pray for this work in this part
of Missouri. Bro. Brightwell is abund-
ant in labors, having two other places
to preach, six a:od eight miles ou.t. 1 1, :
We were mostroyally .entertained by
Bro; ,Barns ( cashier of the bank) and
his good wife, although we could
not stop to sit .to eat dinner, our .good
sister. (the 's wife)
hastily put up a fine lunch of hot roast .
beef with hot biscuits and blackberry

pie, .which I assure you was
by two hungry preachers as the .pqnies
hastened on thro'\lgh the mud, for it
had thawed a little, but when .we were
about half . 'vay to Des Arc we met a
"norther" and the last fifteen miles
severe enough; so that when we
came into Des Arc dear B'ro. Strother,
who had done tl}e driving,. was very
much chilled and I fear will be sick
from the Wen; we got back
right up, from our sixty-mile ride,
with a sixty-mile in our souls,
and were soon .. ready for the night
service. -
Sunday Night, . January 17th.
Notwithstanding the blizzard was on,
about .200 people gathR-ed. We h.ad a
very impressive ordination service in
keeping with the request of otir Charch
at Des Arc, and. in harmony with:. th.c
providential demands of our work at
Des Arc and adjoining country, I, with
the assistance of Rev. and Professor
J. W. Smith, ordained our Bro. W. Wal-
ter Strother. 1'he glory of our Ood was
upon us an'd filled the place. After the
ordination we had a missionary meet-
ing, talking from the Our Church
at this point will install the envelope
system next month. Everybody is glad
of the prosperity of Zion in this great

felt that he must leave us, having re-

to Southern California. We felt it our
duty to let him go, though we felt the
loss keenly, as the battle is a difficult
one here and our brother had gained
the love of both the Church and the
people. For all he gave the Gospel mes-

the Church to feel their need of a closer
walk with God, and the unsaved to feel
the importance of getting right witJt

CHRISTIAN PERFECTION.
Perhaps we f?ay less about Christian
perfection, and emphasize perfect love
less than we should. .Entire sanctifica-

experience which is 'wrought in the

disliked by worldly-minded people and
thus becomes the instrument of stig-

is the-term to be used. John Wesley,

Lvs Angeles and Vicinity
AT THE TABERNACLE
Although the sheets were very
muddy 011 account of the late rains, a
good congregation assembled _for the
morning worship. In the absence of
Dr. Bresee, who is in San Diego hold-
ing special meetings with our Chur ch
there, Rev. J . W. Goodwin brought
message of the morning. He read
a Scripture lesson a part of the third
chapter of James, and also a part of
the seventh cJ1apter of Mark, taking
for his text James 3 :8 and Mark 7:35,
announcing as his subject, "The Gov-
ernment of the Tongue." .
He spoke of the importance of a care-
ful government of the tongue, and how
,impossible it was to control the ton_gue
' by the natural man, and emplu-t.s1zed
the Divine. method in governing this
often unruly member. It was evident
that the people followed the speaker
ver y closely, as he took them step by
step on to the .climax. As he closed a
wave of inten.se desire and holy en-
thusiasm s,wept the congr egation while
he prayed that the Holy Ghost might
have more complete control of our
tongti'e, giving a loving tone to all our
utter ances and making our words fra-
grant with the Divine blessing.
The afternoon service was one of un-
nsnal unction and power. As Bro. Col e-
man urged upon _ the people the need of
l1eing filled with all the fullness of God,
how 1hc people prayed and wept. A
real burden of an intercessory prayer
came upon us as we continued over one
hour before the throne. Some prayed
through . and confes'sed their faith in
a great incoming wave of Divine bless-
ing on the Church.
'l'he increasing rain, which com-
menced about 6 o'clock, kept many
away from the evening service, but in
spite of this pouring r ain a good . nihm-
ber were present to enjoy the feast.
The service was in charge of our young
men of the Bible College. It was in-
deed inspiring to see such a row of ten
strong young men who have given them-
selves to preach holiness: Each took a
text and for five minutes they gave the
people red-hot truth . . It was astonish-
ing to see the wisdom and power mani-
fested in these short addresses by these
stndents. Many of tl}.em would make
cfl'ef'tive preachers even now. The serv-
i ce elosed with the altar call. It was
evident at" the close that our people will
take more interest in these young men
.after this, and we hope to have them.
again in the lead at some future time.

The heavy rains and impassable streets
have not affected the meetings, but
have, in a measure, limited the attend-
ance, but the Lord has been graciously
present to save, sanctify and bless His
believing children.
Bro .. and Sister Irick have preached
in the d emonstration of the Spirit, and
souls have. been saved and_ sanctified at
all the services. The work is going on.
TJte afternoon service on Sahbath
last was full of power . and the large
audience was greatly blessed, as six
seekers came forwa:rd and were sanc-
tified.
Afternoon meet ings are held every
Sabbath. 'l'he meetings 'vill continue
every niglit, save Saturday, during this
month. Cpme and enjoy them.
'rhe trustees of the Grand A venue
Church have decided to purchase the
lot upon which the Church is now lo-
cated, and whi ch is at present leased
on an annual r ental of $100. As prop-
erty is rapidly incr easing in value, it
is thought the part of wisdom to pur-
chase while it is possible to secure this
valuable lot at a r easonable figure. It
can be had now for $1500 and a deal is
now being consummated whereby this
corner lot, feet, shall become
the property of the P entecostal Church
of the Nazarene for the preacl1ing of
holiness.
Several friends have previously said
that when we came to the point of pur-
ehasing a lot they would help. Well,
friends, we are at that point now, and
any friend of holiness and the Pente-
costal Church of the Nazarene .who so
desir0s may be of valuable assistance
hy sending in their checks to the pas-
tm, which will he property acknowl-
ecl ged and applied. This Church is
regularly incorporated and organized
aecording to the Manual and is an in-
tngral part. of the General Church. Help

Our Sunday School has more than
doubled, ha-ving now sixty or more, an<l
the attendance at preaching services
is doubled and the interest is
good. There . have been some. souls
blessedly saved and some have been
sanctified, and some accessions to the
Church; others are - knocking at thc,

influential people of this part of Santa
