Press release June 2013 Product Launch Analytics Innovation of the Week: A chocolate bar made from the

milk of grass fed cows


Cows love grass, and some believe that grass may actually be more healthful for cows than other types of feed. Now, consumers can purchase a milk chocolate bar that is actually made from the milk of cows that are fed grass (in the summer) or hay (in the winter) with Ja! Natuerlich Haymilk Chocolate Hazelnut Bar. New in Austria, this product is the innovation of the week from Datamonitor Consumers Product Launch Analytics. Cows are natural grass eaters. But many cows are fed grain and other foods for cost or convenience reasons. That is not the case with Ja! Natuerlich Heumilch-Schokolade (Haymilk Chocolate) Bar in a Noisette (Hazelnut) flavor. This bar is made from the milk of cows that have been fed grass and herbs in the summer and hay in the winter. The fresh grass and hay come from the Salzberg organic Trumer Lakes region of Austria while the cocoa beans and cocoa butter come from Costa Rica and Peru. Organic and free of genetic modification, this chocolate bar has a 37% cocoa content and features gently roasted hazelnuts and creamy nougat. A 34% cocoa content Natur (Natural) chocolate bar is also available. Tom Vierhile, Innovation Insights Director for Datamonitor Consumer notes that interest in grass milk fed dairy and meat products is rising, but the trend has been mostly limited to these two areas. The launch of this new Haymilk Chocolate Bar is a sign that the use of grass milk or hay milk as an ingredient appears to be primed to move well beyond dairy and meat into a wider array of food and beverage categories.
