Part-B(2x16=32) 10. A circular fin of 100mm length and 5mm diameter extends horizontally from a casting at 200oC. The fin is in an environment with T = 20 oC and h= 20W/m2K. What is the temperature at the free end? Take k=133W/mK. (OR) 11. A person is found dead at 5pm in a room whose temperature is 20 oC. The temperature of the body is measured to be 25oC when found, and the heat transfer coefficient is estimated to be 8W/m2K. Modelling the human body a 20cm diameter and 1.7m long cylinder, Calculate actual time of death of the person. Take thermophysical properties of the body. k = 6.08W/mK, =900kg/m3, Cp=4000J/kgK. 12. In a tubular counter flow heat exchanger, 1080kg/hr of water is heated from 40oC to 80oC by hot flue gas(Sp. Heat = 10kJ/kg K.). Flue gas enters at 200 oC and leaves at 100oC. The overall heat transfer co efficient is 200W/m2K.Find the area of exchanger a) by LMTD-method b) NTU-method. (OR) 13. In a counter-flow heat, water is used as a coolant for hot oil from a temperature of 160 oC to 60oC. Water enters the heat exchanger at a temperature of 25 oC. The mass flow rates of water and oil are each 2kg/s. The diameter of the tube is 0.5m and the overall heat transfer coefficient is 250W/m2K. Calculate the length of the heat exchanger. Take specific heat for oil and water as 2.035 and 4.187kJ/kg K.
