Easter Egg Hunt Changes and Application (Somya Subramanian/Harmonie Taddeo/Doug Gaskell) Harmonie reviewed how Childrens Council planned previous Easter Egg hunts at Pender. Somya explained the changes instituted for the 2013 Easter Egg Hunt. Challenges to be addressed included: Recruiting enough volunteers due to planned vacations during spring break. Working around other events scheduled during the busy Holy Week period. The decision was made to schedule the event during a week day and send personal invitations to Pender Hill School students. The objective was to reach out to children outside of Pender to bring Christs message of hope to them. This event attracted approximately 150 childrenboth from Pender, the Pender Hill School, and the neighborhood. The activities planned (museum, sing along, story, egg hunt for younger children and scavenger hunt for older children, and snacks) were a success. Please see the attached power point slides for more specific details on the event and on the information collected during the event to enable future improvements. A similar program will be planned for Christmas VBS. During the fall, a blessing of the backpacks will be conducted for the Pender Hill School children and their parents.

Doug discussed suggestions for leaders to use in reaching out and taking their ministry/committee to the next level. He emphasized the need to focus on what their cluster/committee was set up to do, to be deliberate in the planning, to collect information, and to evaluate the event to determine if it was a success or if it made an impact. Giving Status (Becky Bryan) (Please refer to attachments) At the last Council meeting, the question was raised on whether there should be concern that giving is less than anticipated. Becky reported that the tithes and offerings received through April 2013 were $56,974 less than anticipated and this is a cause for concern. The year-to-date net deficit is $78,171 which is $54,969 more than anticipated. A review of historical giving data did not indicate a trend and no explanation for this variance can be attributed to a specific cause. Becky will share this information with our newly appointed Stewardship Chairperson for his consideration. New Pender Sign (Butch Kinerney) The type of sign that fits on top of a trailer and that was destroyed last year is no longer manufactured. A vendor was hired to fix the trailer (for approximately $500). A new sign was ordered (for approximately $500) which the vendor will be able to install on the renovated trailer. New Logo Opportunities (Butch Kinerney) A discussion was held on the best methods to use to select Penders new logo. Our target audience is individuals who do not attend our church. However, input and support from the congregation is paramount in Council making this decision. It was decided that the Communications committee will ask for feedback for each of the following options from the congregation. This information will assist Council in making a decision at the next Council meeting on June 19. The Connection Card or similar format will be distributed with the bulletins on at least 2 Sundays. Open-ended questions similar to the ones used during the initial Council surveys will be used. Posters displaying the logos will be made and displayed. Feedback from ReGift Thrift Store, Pender Hill School, and other organizations Pender partners with will be solicited for feedback. Option 1

Option 2

Audio Visual Inputs for Renovation Committee (Kevin Smith) The trustees reviewed the various audio visual equipment located throughout the building. A list identifying these specific items was prepared and the findings were shared with the group. Some items are no longer needed (e.g., TVs), are not working properly (e.g.,

nursery monitors), or are outdated (e.g., analog vs. digital equipment, VHS vs. DVD tapes). A questionnaire will be distributed to the cluster and ministry leaders asking about the usage of this equipment so that proper action can be taken. A question concerning video licensing was raised. Kevin will check into this matter. Pender ReGift Thrift Store (PRTS) Update (Dave Cacner) May 26 is the first year anniversary for the store. Dave reviewed the mission statement, partnerships formed, expanded office hours, statistics on sales, budget requirements, staffing and volunteer needs, etc. Specific information may be obtained from the attached power point presentation. Important Upcoming Dates/Reminders June 19, 2013, 7:30 pm next Council meeting Closing and Benediction: Doug Gaskell closed the meeting with prayer at 9:25 pm. Respectfully submitted, Mary Ann Hinkle Recording Steward Attachments
