New Delhi: Delhi Police on Thursday claimed that Rajasthan Royals owner Raj Kundra had admitted to placing bets on his team through a bookie-friend. According to the police, Kundra lost around Rs 1 crore in betting over the last three years. Investigators also claimed Kundra (36) told them that he lost around Rs 1 crore in the past three years in betting in IPL matches. However, police said they have no evidence yet to implicate Kundra in fixing matches.

Mumbai: Adding a grave dimension to the ongoing IPL scam, Mumbai Police claim to have learnt that Gurunath Meiyappan, son-in-law of BCCI president N Srinivasan was reportedly warned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to stay clear of bookies before the start of IPL-6, official sources said on Friday. The information was revealed by Meiyappan, arrested for illegal betting and other irregularities, during his custodial interrogation last week, police sources said. Dubai, June 7: An Indian man in Bahrain, who broke a car's side rear view mirror in the hope of getting deported to India, has been sentenced to jail for two months. The 33-year-old Indian labourer did not want to pay for the ticket to go home and hence broke the side rear view mirror of a private car hoping that he would be deported to India, the Gulf Daily News reported Friday. "I wanted to go back home," the man was quoted as saying in statement. "However, I did not know what to do and I kicked the car's window and smashed it (side rear view mirror) to pieces so that I could be deported back to India," he said. A lower criminal court judge awarded him a two-month jail term without deportation on the charge of damaging private property and said that the crime committed was minor

London, June 3: An Air India cabin crew was detained by the London police for allegedly smuggling 50 cigarette crates. Though some members of the crew were released later, Bhavik Shah, who admitted to his crime, was detained for eight hours. The airline later bailed him out by paying 5,000 pounds. Confirming the incident, a senior Air India official said Mr Shah has been suspended. According to airline sources, the incident took place last Friday after Air India's Mumbai-London flight landed at the Heathrow airport.
