Prize Distribution Ceremony


BGMEA
Institute of Fashion & Technology (BIFT)
for the first time organized a Prize Distribution Ceremony on 3 rd January, 2011 at BIFT Auditorium, Uttara, Dhaka. Major Abdul Mannan (Retd), Chairman, Sunman Group and Former Minister of Textile & Member of the Parliament graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr. Muzaffar U. Siddique, President, Governing Body, BIFT presented a BIFT crest to the chief guest.

Mr. Reaz-Bin-Mahmood, Director, BGMEA & VicePresident (Finance), Governing Body, BIFT along with other members of BIFT were present on the occasion. The Chief Guest distributed the Academic Award2010 to the students of different batches for best in academics and also distributed the trophies to the winners (champion & runner-up) of Inter Batch Football Tournament & Debate Competition. Ms. Munira Rahman of UNIDO was being presented a BIFT crest for her outstanding contributions for supporting BIFT in various matters. A colorful Fashion show and Cultural program were also organized by the BIFT students.

Dr. Nazrul Islam Khan, PS to Prime Minister visited BIFT on 16th May, 2011 to see the infrastructural facilities of the Institute. He exchanged his pleasantries with the members of the Governing Body. Dr. Nazrul Islam khan was briefed about the academic and other activities of BIFT through a digital presentation.

Vote of thanks was given by Mr. S. M. Mannan Kochi, Vice President (Finance), BGMEA & VicePresident (Admin), Governing Body, BIFT.

After the presentation he went around various sections of the main campus and was impressed to see the academic activities available at BIFT. The program was attended by Mr. Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin), President, BGMEA, all members of the BIFT Governing Body, Principal, Registrar and the senior faculty members of BIFT.

Pahela Baishakh Celebrated at BIFT


On 14th April, 2011 Bangali cultural festival Chaitra Sangkranti & Pahela Baishakh the Bangla New Year1418 was celebrated by BIFT at its own campus with due solemnity. Students, faculties and officials took part in the Mongal Shova Jatra in the adjacent areas of the BIFT campus, Ut tara with lot of colorful banners and festoons. A colorful handicraft exhibition was also arranged by the students in the main campus.

Dance Show

A cultural program was organized at the BIFT auditorium. The students took part the function and made a lively program with various traditional songs and dances. Renowned Baul from outside performed Baul songs. The program was attended by Mr. Md. Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin), President, BGMEA; Directors of BGMEA and Members of Governing Body of BIFT. Students and officials also enjoyed varieties of Bangla food like Panta Bhat (rice soaked in water) and fried Hilsa and other indigenous items. A colorful Wall Magazine named Rodro Korotite was published on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh.

Manchester Metropolitan University Delegates Visit BIFT


Jane Ledbury, Msc CertEd Program Leader, Msc Clothing Portfolio & Senior Lecturer, Fashion Product Development of Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), UK and Ruth Butterworth, Product Development, TESCO visited BIFT main campus, Uttara, Dhaka on 16th April, 2011. A discussion meeting was held on how to develop academic and professional excellence and exchange of faculties, students and research staff, curriculum and product design development, joint exhibition and other acdemic activities between the two institutions.

LCF Conducts Training Program


A three day CPD (Continuing Professional Development) short courses were conducted at BIFT from 26th May to 28th May 2011 as part of the UNIDO Better Work in Textile & Garments Program (BWITG). Experts from London College of Fashion (LCF) Dr. Lynne Hammond and Dr. Julia Gamester conducted the course which was attended by all the full time faculties and technical experts from the different industries. The topic of the 3 day long courses was Developing your own Brand and Marketing Strategy.

Principal, BIFT gave warm welcome and briefed overall activities of BIFT. Jane Ledbury gave a rundown on the overall academic activities of the MMU, UK. At the end of the meeting they went around BIFT campus to see different activities and were very impressed by the present standard and performance of the BIFT.

At the end of the program the BGMEA President Mr. Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) gave away the certificates among the participants. The program was also attended by President Governing Body of BIFT, other Board Members, UNIDO representatives Mr. John T. Smith and Ms. Munira Rahman.

Exchange Visit: LI & FUNG & BIFT Officials


Mr. Roger Hubert, VicePresident and Mr. Talukder Zaid Hossain, Manager HR of LI & FUNG (Bangladesh) Ltd. visited BIFT campus on 29th March 2011 to have a discussion on students support program to groom up our students and to fulfill the scarcity of the local experts

BIFT Annual Picnic-2011


The Annual Picnic 2011 of BIFT was held on February 2011 at Bangladesh Tea Research Institute (BTRI), Srimongal, Sylhet. Students, Faculties, Admin officials & staff actively took part in the event and they also participated in different games and other cultural activities. BIFT Principal & Registrar distributed the raffle draw prizes to the winners. The picnic consisting of about 1000 persons

in the Garment sector of Bangladesh. They have chosen BIFT as it is the leading fashion institute to support this sector. Officials of BIFT also visited to Li & Fung Bangladesh Ltd on 12th April, 2011. The purpose of the visit was to observe the training
activities of mid level management of the Li & Fung Bangladesh Ltd.

Orientation Program of MBA & B.Sc (Hons) 111 Batch at BIFT


The Orientation Program of MBA in Apparel Merchandising and B.Sc (Hons) 111 batches (January to June 2011 semester) in Apparel Manufacture & Technology (AMT), Fashion Design & Technology (FDT) Principal, Registrar & Sr. faculties seen on & Knitwear Manufacture & the dais Technology (KMT) of the BIFT were held on February 14 and 23, 2011 respectably at BIFT. Principal, Registrar, three Head of the dept., faculties, admin officials and new students were present on the occasions.

(including 800 students) started from BIFT at 6:30am and returned at about 11:30pm. Participants felt that it would be a lifetime unforgettable memories for almost everyone.

BIFT Human Resource Development Project


& Career Development Center
A Project by BGMEA & BIFT
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BGMEA) is playing a vital role in alleviating poverty through human resource development in Bangladesh. As part of that BGMEA & BIFT have taken pragmatic steps to train up unskilled and unemployed people to make them skilled and absorb in the garment industries. BGMEA & BIFT jointly organized this project and already set up different training centers in Monga affected northern districts, southern districts and other remote places of Bangladesh in the area of developing Sweater Operators, Woven & Linking Operators as there is a huge shortage of skilled manpower in our garment sector.

Planning. The purpose of the training was to develop the skill of the mid-level management personnel in the garment industries. Overall training program was conducted by BIFT. Mr. S. M. Mannan Kochi, Vice President (Finance), BGMEA & Vice-President (Admin), Governing Body, BIFT distributed certificate to the participants after the training program.

BIFT observes Independence Day


BIFT observed the 41st Independence Day on 26th March 2011. To mark this historic day the program included hoisting of National Flag atop the Administrative building and the students of BIFT published a colorful Dewall Magazine.

Young designers of BIFT created design on woven, knit, & fully fashioned wearable & creative dresses taking cognizance of the international export market.

Prof. S.C Anand, Council Chairman, IT, Textile Institute visited BIFT Campus, Uttara, Dhaka in the month of February, 2011. He observed different activities of BIFT and was very pleased by the present performance of BIFT.

BWTG Launching
The launching ceremony of Better Work in Textiles and Garments (BWTG) Component, BEST Program of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) was held on 15th May 2011 at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel.

Mr. Reaz-Bin-Mahmoud, Vice-President (Finance) of BIFT and Ms. Rushmita Alam, Head of the Dept of Fashion Design & Technology had recently attended the 13th Annual Congress of IFFTI held at Institute Franoise deLa Mode, Paris, France. The International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institute (IFFTI) is the most comprehensive and prestigious international organization representing leading fashion higher education institutions in the area of design, technology & business. Upon attending the conference BIFT has got the membership of
IFFTI, which will navigate BIFT towards the path of being a truly international fashion institute uplifting BIFT to be in the platform of internationally accreditation.

The program is focused on assisting the RMG and Textiles sector in shifting from low and mid range to higher value products. This is achieved by Human Resource Development at upper level management through Educational Institutes. The BWTG program also assists by advising BGMEA, BTMA and BKMEA. The BWTG component works closely with Ministry of Textiles & Jute and Ministry of Commerce.

Cultural Competition-2011
Students from different batches of BIFT participated in the cultural competition organized by the BIFT cultural club. Renowned artists from BTV were hired as judges. A final round competition was held on 11th June 2011 at BIFT Auditorium, Uttara, Dhaka. The cultural competition events include songs, dances, drama and recitation of poems.
