Reflective writing Nº 1: The school

Taking into account the information provided in the Observation Stage Report, Task
Nº1(Physical location, School organisation, Student population, School rules)

1.- Write about the perception you have about the school you are attending during this
Vise II teaching practice, up to now. Does the school environment affect the students’
learning process?
2. - Reflect on the effects of the Task Nº1 issue, and the way you think, they can be used
to improve the learning conditions in the school.

Development

1_ The first thing that I noticed about the school it was that it is a very poor and high
risk school. Its infrastructure is very poor; they do not even have a real big yard for all
the kids to play in. In the case of the school San Judas Tadeo, the underprivileged
environment helps them to develop an especial kind of teaching. Since the school does
not have many children-only 1761-for that reason, the principal knows everything about
her students and in the case of the students; they know each other very well. Because of
the small size of the school the main value which you can observe in their everyday life
is “solidarity”. Finally I would like to say that the learning process is affected mainly for
the value that I had mentioned before. In this school children learn to be a social being
and especially to be a person that help the community. These students are very aware of
their situation and I believe that this awareness helps to make them a better person in
the future.

2_ I believe that the current situation of this school help them, like I said before, to
become better people. But to improve their learning process, I think that this school
should have a more organized structure. As we know, young children need to have
different habits. But in this school tend to be a more like, day to day school. For
example almost everyday teachers missed their classes -for different reasons- and this
causes chaos inside the school. Since the school only has a limited amount of teacher,
the children are left alone without anything else to do. And I think this is a mayor deal
inside the school. Another problem that I would regulated, it is the time limit of their
recess because every time that I have been there, the children almost have forty five
minutes break. And I think that it is absolutely ridiculous. If we observed the small
amount of work that they do in classes, forty five minutes it is a lot of time wasted in a
recess.
All of these issues that I had mentioned before have a suitable solution. As a
future teacher I assumed that a school it a place to increase habits, rules and times. And
this “rules” are very important in the development of a responsible men or women.
