SWEDISH MASSAGE

BACK 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Start by stretching the towel over the back. (x 3) Apply massage oil Effleurage back from sacrum to occipital Figure 8, push & pull movement on the sacrum and top of gluteus. X 3 Working on the opposite side of the back Palmer kneading from sacrum to trapezius (shoulder) up and down x 2 Ironing and rolling (pulling muscle back) movement Thumb (circular movement) kneading up along spine Come around to the side of the back you have been working on and place a small rolled towel under the shoulder. 10.Finger friction and thumb rotation around scapula 11.Effleurage entire back 12.Repeat step 6 11 13.Standing at the head of the bed, effleurage whole back from trapezius to sacrum x 3 14.Thumb effleurage along spine 15.Massage trapezius and deltoid with kneading movements 16.Effleurage from sacrum to trapezius x 1 17.Walk to the side of the bed and perform tapotment movements (hacking, cupping and pounding), beware of the kidney areas 18.Perform picking movements 19.Effleurage back x 3 20.Cover client with towel and stretch back as step 1

BACK OF LEG 1. Apply massage oil on foot and leg 2. Effleurage from ankle to gluteus maximus (buttocks) x 3 3. Massage ankle with circular movement x 3 4. Thumb pressure on the sole of the foot 5. Stroke and hug the foot x 3 6. Palmer kneading on Achilles tendon x3 7. Thumb kneading on the gastroneumius (separating movement) x3 8. Palmer kneading movement on soleus and gastroneumius 9. Knuckling from ankle to popliteal 10.Effleurage ankle to popiteal x 2 11.Effleurage the entire leg, and rest hands just above the popiteal and effurage the top of the leg to the gluteus x 3 12.Palmer kneading on hamstrings and various petrissage movements on the gluteus 13.Raking movement (push and pull - alternating hands) on hamstrings 14.Effleurage from popliteal to gluteus x 3 15.Effleurage from ankle to gluteus 16.Perform tapotment movements (hacking, cupping and pounding) lower legs, hamstring and buttock 17.Effleurage from foot to gluteus x 3, then hug and stretch foot to finish 18.Cover client with towel then apply light feather strokes from thigh to finish

STOMACH 1. 2. 3. 4. Circle effleurage clockwise x 3 Palmer kneading on external oblique (one side at a time) Trace hands along colon Circle effleurage clockwise x 3

FRONT OF LEG 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Apply massage oil Effleurage from metatarsals to thigh (gentle on knee) x 3 Finger friction around ankle x 3 Thumb kneading on the sole of foot Separate metatarsals with thumbs With one hand hold the ankle, with the other stretch the foot back ward and forward then circular movements 7. Effleurage from metatarsals to patella (gentle on knee) x 3 8. V stroke ankle to patella (knee) 9. Finger friction on either side of the patella 10.Effleurage from patella to thigh x 3 11.Knuckling thigh - anterial, medial and lateral 12.Raking movement (alternating hands) along thigh 13.Effleurage entire leg x 3 14.Perform tapotment movements on thigh only (hacking, Cupping and pounding). 15.Efflurage entire leg then firmly hold the foot and gently pull. 16.Cover leg with towel and finish with light feather strokes

ARM 1. Effleurage wrist to shoulder with one hand while holding the wrist firmly x 3 2. V effleurage from wrist to elbow (medial and lateral) x 3 3. Thumb kneading metacarpals (circular and hugging movements) x 3 4. Circle and stretch fingers and thumbs 5. Stand clients elbow on bed, place on of you index fingers between the pinkie and ring fingers and the other between the thumb and index fingers - thumb friction palm of hand 6. Stretch and hug the hand 7. Vibrating (eagle shaking) movement 8. Effleurage wrist to shoulder x 1 9. Palmer kneading from elbow to shoulder 10.Thumb kneading upper arm 11.Effleurage arm x 3 then squeeze palm to finish
