Integrated System Project Title: Online Ticketing System Company Background The company that I choose for my final

year project is Starling Cinema. The Starling cinema was founded by Ms. Koh Mei Lee in 1981 as Golden Communication Circuit at the very beginning. In 1998, the Golden Communications, Circuit merged with Cathay Cinemas, one of the oldest cinemas in Malaysia, and became Starling. The first Starling cinema to operate in Malaysia was opened on 14 July 1981 in Kota Kinabalu. Until late 2012, operates the largest circuit of cinema in Malaysia with a total of 229 screens in 29 locations and 42273 seats, all are located in prime sites in major cities and town throughout the country. Until now in 2013, there are 28 Starling cinemas in Malaysia. Moreover, the Starling Cinema in Gurney Plaza located in Penang is the first multiplex outside the Klang Valley and the first to house a Premiere Class screen followed by Berjaya Times Square. There are also international movies shown in selected Starling cinemas. Currently, there are only 4 International screens in Malaysia. They are located in Mid Valley, 1 Utama, Gurney Plaza and Pavilion. All Starling Cinemas have concessions that sell popcorn, soft drinks and other snacks. Some of the cinemas also have gift shop that available for one to purchase merchandise. These gift shops are located in Mid Valley, 1 Utama and Gurney Plaza. The 1 Utama and Gurney Plaza also consist of Glitter cafes.

Description of The Current System The Starling cinemas currently are using the traditional ticketing system. This system requires staffs to works. Without the staffs, this system will unable to run successfully. If customers want to watch a movie, he or she will have to personally go to the cinema to buy the tickets. This system is very time consuming when there are a lot of people queuing for buying the tickets, because all the people need to select their movies, time, and seats. All this procedure will need a lot of times.

Problems of the current system The traditional ticketing system that Starling Cinema using will have some limitations. The first is the system needs more than 2 staffs to works. If not, the system will work slowly and will slow down the process of purchasing the tickets, especially in public holiday. Other than that, when in public holiday or school holiday, they will be a lot of people queuing for buying the tickets. Everyone will have to choose their date, time, movie, and seats. After the confirmation, we also have to wait for the machine to print the ticket. All these procedures will take a lot of time if adding together. In addition, when we are queue to buy the tickets, it can be sold out. Then we will just waste our times for nothing. Also, we also have to personally go to the cinema to confirm is there are remaining seats for the movies we want to watch because the information screen is just showing the movies times and date only. In summary, the traditional ticketing system is not so convenient and very time consuming.

Objectives of the proposed system There are many inconvenient in this traditional ticketing system. So the Starling Cinema hired us to design a new system for their cinema that can allow customers to purchase the tickets easily through the Internet. The new system that we designed is call E - Ticketing System (ETS). Objective of the system: a) Display the movies that are showing in 1 place b) Allow the customers to buy the tickets online c) Manage the data easily (movies, data, times, seats) d) Save times e) Keep track the customers details
