Thought for the Week

heologians tell a story to illustrate how Christ's triumph benefits our lives today: Imagine a city under siege. The enemy that surrounds the city will not let anyone or anything leave. Supplies are running low, and the citizens are fearful. But in the dark of the night, a spy sneaks through the enemy lines. He has rushed to the city to tell the people that in another place the main enemy force has been defeated; the leaders have already surrendered. The people do not need to be afraid. It is only a matter of time until the besieging troops receive the news and lay down their weapons. Similarly, we may seem now to be surrounded by the forces of evil -- disease, injustice, oppression, death. But the enemy has actually been defeated at Calvary. Things are not the way they seem to be. It is only a matter of time until it becomes clear to all that the battle is really over.

Welcome to Worship
elcome to New Hope Church, now into our third century serving God! If you are visiting, you will discover a loving, spirit-filled church family. Here is some helpful information as you join us in worship today: All who worship here are equals in the sight of God, regardless of race, age, gender, physical disability or religious affiliation. Communion, when celebrated, is open to all who profess Christ as Lord and Savior, whether affiliated with this church or not. Children may partake of Communion as well, if parents approve. A nursery is available during the service; please see a greeter for directions. (This is for infants and children up to 3 years of age.) Handicap-accessible restrooms are located off the narthex (main foyer) and adjacent to the entrance lobby in the Fellowship Hall/Gym. Please complete the tear-off attendance slip attached to the bulletin and drop it in the offering plate so we will have a record of your visit with us today. Thank you for remembering to silence your cell phone during the service. We ask that there be no food or beverages in the sanctuary, please. If you arrived as a visitor we hope that you leave as a friend and worship with us often! New Hope Church exists to: Glorify God in worship and rejoice in our life together; Share the Good News of the Gospel in word and deed; Reach as many as we can with the saving love of Jesus; Help each person grow toward Christian maturity, and find their place of service in the church and in the world.

Ministries/Activities Within Our Church

Fathers Day is next Sunday June 16! The ladies of the church will be serving the men breakfast at 8:30. There will be no Sunday School so that the whole church may fellowship together. Honor your father, and your Heavenly Father, by being in church on Fathers Day! A Cumberland Presbyterian Womens (CPW) Ministry is forming at New Hope, led by Elder Mary Thompson. The first step will be establishing a core group that will meet during the day on week days. The next step will be establishing circles that will meet at various times and for various interest groups. Let Mary know if you are interested in this important church ministry. Childrens Summer Fun Program is every Tuesday morning. Pastor Brad will meet the youth and children at the church at 9:00 a.m. We will take the church van to Providence in Mt. Juliet to see a movie and eat lunch. Any child going will need to bring $1.00 for the movie and $5.00 for lunch. A list of movies that will be featured each week is on the church website. Think of this as a parents half-day-out every Tuesday! The General Assembly and Womens Convention of the Cumberland Presby-

Church will be held at Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro, TN June 16-20. Go to Cumberland.org on the internet for more information. 2013 Vacation Bible School. This evangelistic VBS is the ultimate ride. At the end of the week, kids will want to do it all over again! VBS will be July 8th 11th, 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm, for ages 3 years up to 12. Please call Pastor Brad (7724680) or the church office (449-7020) with any questions or if you would like to volunteer to help with a VBS class or with snacks each night. You may also volunteer on the tear-off slip attached to the bulletin. New Hope invites the men of the church and the surrounding community to a weekly Prayer Breakfast each Tuesday morning at 6:00 a.m. A devotional is shared over breakfast, and a time of prayer follows before the busy workday begins. In a casual atmosphere men may discuss concerns that stay within the group. A bond between friends develops. This is a meaningful time of fellow-ship for the men who attend. Visitors are always welcome. Come join us! New Hope Choir Led by Ben, the New Hope choir is more than just a choir. It is a small group that meets on Sunday mornings to fellowship, express concerns, reflect on a devotional together and pray for one another. Those in the choir are blessed to be in it together. Join the choir and find out why! They meet every Sunday after the Worship Service at 11:30. Stephen Ministry - Got a burden? You dont have to carry that burden alone. You can have a STEPHEN MINISTER who will spend time with you, listen to you, and walk beside you. If you or someone you know is interested in receiving care through the Stephen Ministry program at New Hope, please contact the pastor through the Church office at (615) 449-7020 and request that a Stephen minister contact you.
