com League of Independent Theaters Serving over 50,000 Artists Endorses Ken Biberaj for City Council New York City (June 5, 2013)- Democratic City Council Candidate Ken Biberaj (6th District) has been endorsed by the League of Independent Theaters. We are proud to endorse Ken Biberaj in his race for City Council on the Upper West Side because of his understanding and commitment to the arts in our City, in particular to the League's Performing Arts Platform, says John Clancy, LIT's Executive Director. Ken has committed to make New York a place for artists to be able to live and work, and its his type of energy that we need in New York City government. As a passionate supporter for the arts and our cultural institutions, I am deeply honored to have the endorsement of the League of Independent Theaters, stated Ken Biberaj. The League has stepped up this year to add a very strong voice for the arts community. I will stand with them in the City Council to advocate for more Community Facility Space, housing for artists and proper recognition for the economic and cultural impact they provide to our City. The League of Independent Theater (LIT) is the only 501(c) 6 advocacy organization for the independent theater and performing arts population of New York City. As such, the League and its coalition partners, which comprise cultural and performance institutions that serve over 50,000 independent performing artists, 86% of whom vote, far exceeding the general population, entreat our citys elected officials to acknowledge the independent theater sector's historical significance and cultural, civic and economic importance to New York City, and to demonstrate tangible support of independent theater in order to allow it to continue its positive impact. LIT will endorse candidates in every city race and work to form alliances with other cultural advocacy organizations in the city. * * * * Ken Biberaj is a Democratic candidate for City Council on the Upper West Side.
