Cut thread, leaving tail to weave in. Right shoulder Reattach thread to outside edge of other shoulder. Continue in pattern from Row 27 to 58. Weave in the ends. Contrast Garter Stitch Edging: Cast on 2 stitches. Start at centre back. *With right side facing you, Pick up one stitch through 2 threads. Turn. Note: If 2 threads will form a hole, you may need to pick up through 3 threads occasionally.

K 2 tog, K1 through front of stitch. Turn. Sl 1 Purlwise, K1.* Repeat from * to * all the way around sontag, Working * to* 3 times in each corner of back and twice in front points. I had to use a tiny crochet hook to make the new stitches at the front points. You will always be alternating between 2 stitches and stitches on your needle. Be sure edging is laying flat and even around edges as you work, and adjust pick up stitches accordingly. You dont want gaps or ruffles or bumps. Join yarn to first stitch worked, end off by cutting thread and pulling through last stitch, and weave in ends. Sontag ties: Using contrast colour, and size 9 or 10 steel crochet hook, chain 65. Cut thread and pull the end through the last stitch. Thread bodkin or tapestry needle with your chain and thread it through the openings in the edging on the back edge. Even up the extending ties, without gathering the back of the sontag. Put the threaded bodkin back into the last hole and insert it back into the last opening from the same side as originally inserted, making a loop and pulling the chain through the loop. Tighten gently. Thread the other end of chain through the bodkin and secure it in the same way. This allows the ties to be tied firmly without gathering the back or stressing the corners of the back. Make crochet or thread loop on one end of front and stitch a button or bead on the end of the other front. The Sontag wraps around waist and ties in front, and the fronts crossover the bosom and button at the back. The tiny bow and ends should show on the front. The original people-sized sontag has yarn tassels on the ends.
