Lesson Plan Outline GOALS Note: I was not able to find an Illinois learning goal or Common Core Standard for skip counting. Archdiocese Learning Goal: K.06.02 Count with understanding (0-100), including skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s from zero. Instructional Goal for Lesson: To understand the meaning of skip counting Specific Objective for Lesson: Students will understand how to skip count through the use of three different center activities in which they count by 2s, 5s, and 10s. Possible Connections to Other Subjects: None MATERIALS Materials/Resources: Skip counting strip puzzle Secret message worksheet Legos Technology: None INTRODUCTION Introduction (Lead-In): Note: This week is a review of concepts previously learned I will model each station activity for the students. Step-By-Step Procedures and Learning Activities: I will assign students to three different stations of skip countingKarate Puzzles, Secret Messages, and Legos. Karate Puzzles: Students will each receive a set of a skip counting strip puzzle of 2s, 5s, and 10s. These puzzles will be mixed in a bag. Students will have to separate the 2s, 5s, and 10s before they can begin each puzzle.

Students who need extra help will complete the same activity but will receive each puzzle in a separate bag. If time allows, they can challenge themselves to complete the same activity. Secret Message: Students will each receive two worksheets. Students who can count 2s, 5s, and 10s more fluently will receive a more difficult worksheet with more decoding. Students are to put the numbers in order so they can figure out the secret message. Legos: Students will use legos to skip count by 2s. For example, some legos have two dots, some have four, some have six, and so on. Students can use a variety of legos to skip count by two. For example, they can use a lego with two dots and a lego with four dots and it will count as six. I will challenge students to skip count with larger numbers. Closure: Students will share their thoughts about todays activities. I will ask students if any of them felt the activity to be difficult. I will ask them to explain the strategy they were able to use to complete their activity. Assessment: Students have previously been assessed for skip counting. ADAPTATIONS AND EXTENSIONS Adaptations: Students who need extra help will be given their puzzles in separate bags. They will do each puzzle separately and 2s, 5s, and 10s will not be mixed. If there is time after they completed their puzzles in the station, as a challenge they can mix up the puzzle. I can also challenge them with it in the math center and give them one on one help. Extensions: We will be continuing the skip counting review the next day. Linkage to Home and Community: I will encourage students to think of things they can skip count at home.
