February 11, 2013 AUSL Principal 3400 N. Austin Ave. Chicago, IL 60634 Dear Principal, Gandhi said, Be the change you wish to see in the world. While I have no illusions about my ability to alter the course of our communities, I do believe in my ability to teach students who are just as deserving of a quality education as those who live in more affluent neighborhoods. Through my experiences as an educator, I have come to realize that I have the opportunity to empower my students to change the trajectories of their own lives. This responsibility is immense, but I am eager to give my students the tools they need to succeed. Please accept this letter as a formal application for an intermediate mathematics position at your AUSL school. After graduating from the University of Arizona with a degree in Elementary Education, I decided to move to Chicago to pursue a career in education. Though I had a wonderful experience teaching kindergarten and fifth grade with the Archdiocese of Chicago, I knew I could be doing so much more for my students. My yearlong residency at Bradwell School of Excellence has pushed me beyond anything I imagined a good teacher could achieve. Through this experience I have: Built meaningful relationships with students to create a positive learning environment Utilized Signature Strategies such as Think-Pair-Share, Checks for Understanding, and small group work to enhance student-to-student discourse and engagement Collaborated with mentor and co-resident to design and deliver thoughtful balanced literacy lessons Differentiated instruction through small groups to ensure all my students needs were met Analyzed and used data to drive planning and instruction Observed master teachers throughout the AUSL network to better my practice

I believe my experience, dedication, and resilience make me a perfect fit for your school. I look forward to hearing from you to discuss available teaching positions within your school. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to discussing my skills with you soon. Best regards,
