Hasten ye then (at once) To God , I am from Him A wanner To you clear and open. Quran 51:50 BEFORE The decision on the means of transportation on a journey so special, is a very big one. Couple with the options provided by the speedy advancement in science and tecnology, which may be so temptative on a traveller. science has proven that man is multihabitat animal. He has no wings like birds, but can fly as far to the moon where no bird has ever gone. He has no gills and fins as fish, but can swim to the bottom of the sea where some fish cannot. And on the land, he is the landmaster, and can travel as fast as sound (Supersonic). As a traveller, you must come face-to-face with deciding on what means of transportation you will adopt. And this decision is yours, your enjoyment and satisfaction or your boredom and dissatisfaction. However, options that will assist you are dominantly: * Is it better to go by sea, land or air? * Which mean of transportation will be safe, efficient and cheap? * What do I need to get that mean of transportation? * When and where can I start the journey? Let us settle our minds that we will go by land, its so common, humanly possible and safer. We have made one of the importants decisions of our lives. That we will go by land! Isnt it wonderful, we made our independent decision on the journey. Next, which means of transportation can we adopt, the table below may assist us to arrive at an optimal decision.

Now, the option is in favour of train; base on these findings we will make our second decision that we will take train in our journey. We have almost done the biggest part of our decision and the rest we are rest assured that we will make it as well. Of course, we need to buy a ticket, in order to join the train for our journey. Else we commit a crime by jumping in without a ticket. Just a ticket and no one will be worried for seeing us in the train. But arent the ticket master going to refuse giving us the ticket, may be because of racial, gender or geographical segregation attached to the selling process. Here we are not sure, because none of us has ever travelled by train. So, what becomes of our decision? Of course, we go and find for ourselves. Nothing will be better than this. Let us leave tomorrow, first thing in the morning ! OK? We all put our luggage ready, tomorrow we go to the booking office and buy the ticket and hop into the train. The truth about it: Sayr is an Arabic word derived from sayara meaning to travel. It is from the trilateral verb sayara that sayyarat is formed meaning a car or truck. So sayr is literally translated as traveling; our concern. Anyone who is in the journey to somewhere is sahib Al-sayr. Travelling by train means travelling in your life by joining a Sufi order; train means a Sufi order (Tariqat). Other means of Transportation which have overall assessment lower than train are other school of mystical training order than Sufi order (Tariqat), even though one may travel to any other place in other means, travelling through these means are still not the best. 2

Lets take our breakfast, a fast one and we go to the booking office. We took our breakfast and marched straight to the booking office, we saw a man in uniform, who welcomed us and said, I am at your service, can I help you? Yes, sir can we get a ticket please. That must be George, I know he is so bold in speaking to strangers, I always wish I am like him. Yes, sir, you can, but you have to pay some money for one, said the ticket master. O! this is great, so we can get the ticket but why not free. It would indeed be paradise if it is free. As if the ticket master has heard our murmuring, he said, you see the money you give is your donation to this great nation. With the money we sustain the activities of this service, so that your children and grandchildren will still use the train in their days. This is logical, lets give the money. O! This is a great blow on us, for it means George is not coming with us at least not in the same train we are going. But we really need George, together with us. I quickly said, Guys, George is coming with us, and that depends on our efforts. We must launch an appeal fund right now and contribute money for his ticket. Yeah! Yeah!! Shouted the other guys. And we contributed money for the ticket of George. The ticket master asked us, where are we going and which train we will like to travel in. O! God, another twin decisions gain!! Should we always be meeting options to choose. George then said, Sir, where is the best place to go? You may go to Sesame or Iram anyone, and you will really enjoy going there, said the ticket master. He also stretched a travellers manual guide and gave us. 3

He said, this book will help you in deciding whether Sesame or Iram, and will show you all the important places you may go in Sesame and Iram. This sounds wonderful, so we can still join train and later decide where we will alight. We thanked the man and made effort to go, but the ticket master stopped us and said, there are 313 trains each one has a name, so you can join anyone, safe journey. We left the booking office and entered the train station . It was written on an electric sign board Maqama Al-Taubah, We headed straight to its gate. The truth about it. The breakfast is the determination which drives away the hunger of lost of courage in one. The booking office is nowhere, but your own heart. The ticket master is your Nafs (rational soul). You must have money before you will be given ticket; You must profess Islamic faith by saying LaIlaha Ilallah Muhammad Al-Rasulullah (There is no God, but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah) if you are not already professing it before joining Sufi order. Islamic faith is the money and the ticket is the authorised initiation into Sufi order. The manual guide is the holy Quran. Train stations are spiritual stations which one attends in ones spiritual journey. At the gate we met a man who stood by the gate and said: Man is wicked and evil, he betrays his master, our master, Lord. Horses run so wild so strong, their hooves stepping on rocks and pebbles sending sparks of light; Attacking and pushing forward in the early morning hours, Carrying with them storm of dust, All moving in the same direction, Only to satisfy man, its master, in his selfish battles; This, the horse has done in order to demonstrate its loyalty and grate fullness to its master, man. But, man refuses to do the same to his Lord, his creature; Whereas, his Lord only asks him to shun the ungodly and live happily with his fellow men; Instead man sins! Sins!! And Sins!!! Against his master, He repays the care, love and sustenance of his master by sin! O! Travellers, we must repent from sin, and show our loyalty and 4

Gratefulness to our master who only asks us to do what we can do, Let anyone who repents, come and collect this candy as a sign of this. We all stood by the gate unable to move forward. We are all touched by the words of the preacher at the gate. I could see tears running down the cheeks of Amina. She said, Guys! What this man is saying is true. We are really ungrateful... And she bursted crying. George followed, and soon we were all crying. I felt so guilty of myself against my loving master. We picked candies and the man said, may God bless you!, as each one takes a candy. We entered inside the station. There were many trains, many peoples. Some hawking and trading. Some carrying luggage. Each train had a name on it. I saw the following names on some trains: Chisti, Naqshbandi, Qadiri, Sanusi, Uwaysi and Tijjani Tariqa. Amina exclaimed, Hey! Guys, can you see that? I looked and saw a very beautiful train, with luxurious seats, the wagon is new and painted green. It was written on it Tijjani Tariqa. This is our train, said George. Of course it is, I answered. We enter Tijjani train. We sat on the seats facing one another, three of us on one seat and the two females on the other seat. Then from the loudspeaker on our heads we heard a voice saying: Good morning ladies and gentlemen, our prospective passengers, this is the Tijjani train, like other trains it is named after its driver, Tijjani. But unlike the other trains, it is the best train with the best driver. In ten second we will take up, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 ,1, 0 off we go. The truth about it. Maqama Al-Taubah is the first station a traveller may meet. It signifies repentance from the unGodly and concentrating on Godly. A traveller has left his hometown (sin) and left his people (temptations) and start a journey to a strange town (Godly). In each station there are infinite number of conditions a traveller may experience. Weeping and regret over ones previous life are examples of conditions experienced in maqama Al-Taubah. 313 trains for spiritual journey are the 313 Sufi orders, however Tijjani Sufi order is reckoned. Each Sufi order is named after its founding Sheikh (founder), in the case of Tijjani Tariqa after Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani (RA). A driver cant start driving a train until after giving a due authorisation to do so, likewise any sheikh was appointed on that duty by prophet 5

Muhammad (SAW) who is like the authority in the railway service. It is all left for a traveller to choose which train. You can enter a train to see for yourself if it is OK for you, you stay else you change train at any station, but you wont even think about changing one if you enter Tijjani Tariqa. DURING It was well inside the train. Snacks was served in the morning and evening. While tea, biscuits and bread were served in each wagon whenever the passengers want. While each Friday a banquet is organised in each wagon. Wagon master attends to passengers needs in his wagon and he is answerable to the driver. There were many blacks in the train like me, many Arabs like Amina, many Americans like George, many Russians like Sofia, many Chinese like Chung. It is multi racial, men and women, young and old. Sofia looked at me, smiled and said, I feel I have another home here, passengers here have made an impact in my life, they are now my family. Arent they your family now? You are right Sofia, I feel them part of me, I answered. Even when they are not blacks? Teased Sofia. Yes, skin colour doesnt matter, I said. We all laughed. The truth about it. Snacks served in the Tijjani train is lazim consisting of Istighfar, Salat and Hailalat one hundred each. Tea is Wazifah served in congregation in a wagon. Banquet is Hailalatil Jumat also served in congregation. Wagon is zawiyat. Passenger is murid (Novice). Wagon master is muqaddim. And the word of Sofia is true, Murid of Tijjani train is a brother to another murid, in a family of novices to Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani (RA). We reached another station called Maqam Al-Istiqamat, where the train stopped and some passengers alighted while some came in. As we started moving again, a voice from the loudspeaker said: Respective passengers, fasten your belts and stand firm by your luggage, we have entered a step valley of Istiqamat. We will do our best to see that everything is OK. The truth about it. The next station after Taubah is Istiqamat and a passenger is expected to 6

Stand firm on his train and ensure that he has obey the rules and regulations of the train. He also persevere with difficulties which may arise due to moving in a step valley of life. Journey even in the best train is not without difficulties, said Chung. I looked at him and smiled. After a while the train slowed down and everything came back to normal and we are told that everything now is over, we can untie our belts. By midnight, I saw green lights from an electric sign board and the train stopped in front of it. I read it, it was another station called Taqwa, some passengers alighted and the train moved. But now in the darkness of the night. I then discovered that all the passengers in the wagon were sleeping, I was alone. Even Sofia, who occassionally opened her eyes, looked at me and smiled, had went into deep sleep. I now discovered that even though there were passengers in the wagon, I was now alone, yet together with the passengers. I felt so afraid, when I looked outside I saw hyenas in the darkness of the night standing on rocks looking at me. I am the only one awake facing the night. The truth about it. The next Maqama (station) is Taqwa, where a passenger enters into the stage of fear of God, and constantly remembers that one day he alone will face his Lord in the darkness of his sins. Fear is an example of condition experienced in this station. In the morning a staff brought new clothes for us. After taking bath, we put the clothes. So, they also gave us clothes? Asked Chung. Who knows, they may also give us houses, said Sofia. We all laughed. We took our breakfast and I said, I think we are missing one thing. George looked at me and said, and what is that? I said, let us look at the manual giving to us and decide whether we are going to Sesame or Iram. Remember what the ticket master said. You are right! They all shouted. We brought out the book. I opened some pages and looked at the captions. Wait! Wait!! We are not going to read it this way, lets study it together, said Amina. The truth about it. After passing the first three stations, passenger enter second course of his journey. The first is referred to as Islam, and the second as Iman. Journey to Sesame is to meet the king of kings and to Iram is going to a 7

To a model town, where all the beauties of life are there. Fountain of waters, gardens well furnished room swimming pools, sport centres, beautiful and sexy women, one in town cars and many more; And, above all you dont need to pay a penny for anything in the town for you have already paid for everything by buying the ticket. Now, where are we going, asked chung. Lets go to Iram, it will be OK and nice, said sofia, I look at her smiled and nodded. No, we are not going there, said George. All what are there are mere beauties and not the king, lets go to sesame and see the king himself. Chung nodded and said, we first go to Iram for some days, and then go to the king, if we go to Iram, we cant see the king, we will forget about it him, said Amina. Lastly we all agreed that we will go to see the king at sesame straight. I and sofia were not so much convinced that we were really making a right decision then, by leaving these pleasures and excitements in Iram, chung was half with us and half with the others who were convinced that going to the king at sesame is the best option. The truth about it:A traveller must have a focus going to God and God alone, or going to paradise where you meet gardens, fruits, foods, pools and nymphs in good shape. I saw weary look on the face of sofia, I know something is bothering her, her face became red. I asked her if there was something wrong, she said, no, just dont worry , after a while she came closer to me and whispered in my ear, can one smoke cigarette here? I turned around and looked at her and said, you better dont do it, it may be violation of regulation in this train by the way you may even disturb other passenger. Thanks, said sofia. A crew passenger came to pass, sofia called him and asked, is there no empty wagon here? No, madam. After a while sofia stood up. I asked where was she going. She smiled and said, just a pew, Thats mean to urinate, she always said pew for it. Sofia went into the toilet and brought out cigarette and put in her lips. How can it be a journey with no cigarette, she murmured. She lighted the cigarette and inhaled the smoke and blew it out, then a bell rung. Poor Sofia, she dont know there was smoke detector attached to the wagon. When we heard the bell, I guessed what happened. In the toilet she threw away the cigarette through the window and quickly came out and hurried back to her seat. The crew members after searching the toilet and couldnt find a flame, they switched off the bell. O! I lost my ticket, said Sofia. 8

How do you do that girl? Asked George. I supposed is that bell, its so alarming and... The ticket fell somewhere, said Sofia. I came closer to her and whispered, you throw it away together with the cigarette unknowingly. Yes, No, Yes... I mean No, said Sofia. I then called the attention of the wagon master and asked him, what if someone loses his ticket? I will give him another, said the wagon master. Free! I asked. Yes, free because you have already paid for it in the booking office, said the wagon master. No, is not me, it is her, I pointed to Sofia. Yes, I lost my ticket, it is the alarm... I am afraid and the ticket... It fell somewhere, said Sofia. Have one, the wagon master stretched a new ticket to her, she collected and he left away. The truth about it. There are rules and regulations in every train, some are so important that violating them will make a passenger lost his ticket (Talqin). If a passenger loses his ticket (Talqin) he has to renew (Tajdid) with another one. It is only when the passenger jumps down as the train is speeding that may be when his ticket cannot be renewed (for he is dead). We reached the fourth station after lunch. It was one of the busiest, as usual the train stopped for a while. The station is called Maqam Sidq. It was a place for business, there were shops filled with selling items. Some passengers alighted and some came in. I saw some policemen speaking to a woman. I wondered what was going on there outside . One of the policemen put handcuff on the womans hand. People have started gathering before the scene . What is happening over there , said Chung . I replied , I dont know ,but it seems, the woman is in trouble . As one of the people there came into the train, into our wagon George asked him , my man what is happening there . That woman has gone to the lost items office , after hearing that a bag was found in the station and taken there . Very unfortunate for her the owner of the bag was already found . After interrogations she confessed that herself together with some thugs have formed the habit of coming to the office to claim what does not belong to them by lieing , the man explained. This is the end of a liar, a cheat, I said . Lie is the first step to any evil and no evil can stand without a lie ,said the man . The truth about it. The next station is maqama Al-Sidq, where a traveller will divulge and persevere on telling truth , believing in the truth , supporting the truth and becoming honest and truthful. 9

Truth leads one to righteous deeds and they in turn leads to blessings of God. One will not hold truth until it will be ordained before God that one is indeed truthful. I am getting tired and it is getting night, said Sofia. Please, let someone tell us a story ,I am also tired of sitting ,said Amina. George , have you any story ,asked Chung . No , replied George . OK I have one , I said . The story :-In a kingdom far away in Africa , there lives a powerful king called Hassan .He had a beautiful palace and a very huge revenue and a standing army for the defence of the kingdom . Out of his trusted officials there is the treasurer who is the custodian of the wealth of the kingdom one of the trusted officials of king Hassan . One sad day , the treasurer fell sick and died .King Hassan wept bitterly , not only because he was fond of his treasurer , but because the dead treasurer was sincere in his work .King Hassan feared that he may not have a replacement with someone very sincere as the dead treasurer . So ,he consulted the wisest old men in the Kingdom on this matter. They told king Hassan three golden rules that will guide him to find a sincere man to replace the dead treasurer . 1. Sincere men are found on the lips of the commons . 2. Sincerity is blindness where others see. 3. Sincerity is in the last moment . King Hassan spent time thinking about the words of wisest old men of the kingdom and arrived at a plan . One day as he sat in his council , he sent one of his official to go to the market place and asked people to name a sincere man of his kingdom .The official went out and returned. He presented names of three men considered to be the sincere men of his kingdom by the people of the kingdom . King Hassan smiled and collected the names, he has used the first rule to get the names of the three men. King Hassan sent a messages to the three men that he is inviting them to the palace on certain matters. He added in the message that they will come into the palace by one enterence and leave by the other, and he gave the three men different times The first man came and guards showed him the passage he will pass to meet the king. He entered the passage alone, and to his uttermost surprise he found ornaments and money all over the long passage. He looked round and is sure that no one was seeing him, he filled his pockets heavily with money and ornaments. 10

The second man came and did the same. While the third passed through the passage without taking anything. When they met the king. He told them that he wanted to appoint one of them his treasurer and that shall be the person who dances best. The king ordered for the royal musicians and the they started beating their drums and blowing their trumpets. As the two men started dancing, the coins and ornaments in their clothes started making sound and prevented them from dancing well. But the third man danced well. The king after combining the next two golden rules has indeed found third man to be really sincere. He appointed him as treasurer and ordered the guards to search the pockets of the other two. And they found money and ornaments. The sincere was appointed as a treasurer, a trusted official of the king, and the insincere whipped by the kings guards. A very nice story, said chung. It worths to be sincere, said Amina. We looked through the window and we saw we have reached another station called Maqam Al-Ikhlas. After a while the train set up again and slowly moved into the heart of the night. I put my head on the pillow which I placed on the seat. Then all is dark. I opened my eyes again and found all were sleeping only Sofia, She was looking at the window. She turned round looked at me and said, good night. I replied good night, Thanks for the story said Sofia. I nodded my head and smiled. As I am looking at the face of Sofia wondering how would she look like if she is black, I slept. The truth about it; The next station is Maqam Al-Ikhlas, where a passenger will become very sincere to his lord and fellow creatures . As usual there are many conditions (Ahwal) experience in this station like self actualisation. I woke up in the middle of the night and found that the train has stopped . I looked through the window and found out that we were in another station called Maqam Al-Tamaennah. Everything was tranquil and quiet. I feel fresh energy in me, the tiredness and weary is gone. As I am looking at the electronic sign board displaying Tatmaennah. Everything was tranquil and quite. I felt fresh energy in me , the tiredness and boredom were gone. As I am looking at the electronic sign board displaying Tatmaennah, I slept again. The truth about it. The last station in the second course of a passengers journey is Maqam Tatmaennnah. The mind of the passengeracheived tranquility in God and doing the Godly. At this stage certainty is built, the sweet taste of righteousness is felt and the door to temptation and uncertainly is permanently 11

Closed. In the morning after taking breakfast we reached another station called Maqam Al-Muqaraba, the train stopped and the voice in the loudspeaker said: Passengers that are going to Iram shall alight here, and they will be shown the way to the model city. I looked at Sofia, and our eyes showed our interests to alight and go to the model town. But as if we were glued to the train, we didnt say nor do anything and the train drove off, slowly the station becoming thinner and thinner as we looked through the window, until it disappeared in the thin air. The truth about it. The first station in the last course (Ihsan) of passengers journey is Maqam Al-Maarifah. The passenger now dives into the ocean of infallible proximity to God. The passenger totally naked of any other thing not God, is surrounded with the waves of the ocean. By lunch time, we reached another station called maqam Mushahadah. We saw captions and pictures of the king we were to meet. People sold books and cassettes of the king to passengers. Amina bought a video cassette title, Invitation to the table of truth. As the train drove away, Sofia looked at Amina and said, wont you put the cassette for us to see. O! I dont know that you want to see it, replied Amina. Of course we do, I said. Is OK. Take it easy guys, here it is, said Amina. She put the cassette in the video player and we all looked at the television, which was just above the window. We saw the king, a very hansome and majestic looking, alone in a room with a big table and chairs round it. To our uttermost surprise he called us by our names and told us that he is waiting for us. He showed five chairs in the midst of many others round the table with our names written boldly on them. Is this video cassette or video conferencing, asked Sofia. Whatsoever it is, is a big technology and sovereignity and we are going there. The cassette continued to play putting us in uttermost surprise. The truth about it. The next station is maqam Mushahadah where passenger witnesses the presence of God, a station that cannot be ordinarily understood. We reached the last station by the evening time. The station is called Maqam Maarifah and we thought we are alighting there, but we are told that Sesame is just after the station. The train stopped at the station, but no passenger alighted, because we were all excited to meet the king. As the train stopped, the voice in the loudspeaker started brieving us on the king and what was before us, meeting the king. The 12

Voice told us that we can ask question from our seats on this matter and will attend to our questions. We learnt a great deal of things from the questions asked by the passengers and the answers given to them by the voice. The truth about it. The last station a passenger will reach is maqam maarifah, where passengers are drown into the ocean of infinite knowledge of God and knows God absolutely. A knowledge that anyone who has not reached that station in his journey has no access to. We are in the dialogue with the voice up to dinner time. We had our dinner still listening and asking the voice. Sofia looked at me and said, I am really getting excited each moment. This is a journey to wonders, I replied. By midnight the interactive session came to an end and we drove slowly and I wondered where will the train stopped, if there was no more station ahead. The truth about it. Even if a passenger reaches the last station there are still conditions and graces of God ahead, so the journey has not come to an end. Ahead of us we saw a very big bridge, boldly written on the bridge, The bridge of death, the only way to the king. I felt somehow afraid that the train will pass over this bridge. I have heard about the bridge from people. That moving on it is so horrible and may even be extremely dangerous. And that anyone who passes through it never return back home. And the biggest of all, no one knows what really happened to passengers on the bridge, because no passenger passed it and return to narrate the mystery of the bridge. Sofia was the first to speak, she called the wagon master and said, Sir, we are not actually going to meet the king, we will alight here, so stop the train. I am sorry Madam, the train never stop, once it faces the bridge, replied the wagon master. No, you must stop it, shouted Sofia. She stood up. I dont want that bridge, I heard about it and I am not going, please stopped the train, pleaded Sofia. I stood up also. The wagon master said, I know you are afraid of the bridge, there is nothing to be afraid about. Danger is not there, it is even safer moving on it. You cant meet the king, until you pass through the bridge, I am with you, other staff are and the driver is together with you in this journey of yours, particularly crossing the bridge. Dont panick. Then why no one ever returned back home after crossing the bridge, I asked. The wagon master replied, because you meet the king after crossing the bridge and you need not to come back to your towns of misery and poverty after meeting the king. There you can meet anyone without necessarily going to ones town. 13

No, I dont... I will not go. Guys, you better tell them to stop the train, I am not going to that bridge. If you dont I will break this window and jump, Said Sofia. The wagon master put his hand on my shoulder and said, brother, take care of this woman, she is getting the bridge phobia a common feeling to most passengers whenever they drew near the bridge of death. I put Sofia in my arms, giving her courage and managed to make her get back to her seat. As the train drew nearer and nearer the bridge, all passengers were silent. Amina shut her eyes. I can see tension in the face of George. And Chung held his chin looking at the bridge. Sofia held my arm tightly to her chest, and said, I am afraid of this bridge, it is not good. The truth about it


A passenger who wants to meet God must pass through the only bridge that can unite him with God and that is death. Our master Ibrahim (AS) was taken by God as friend (Khalil). Then when angel of death came to him, informing him that God ordained that he is to die that day. Ibrahim (AS) asked the angel and said, have you ever seen a friend killing his friend. Then God replied, have you ever seen a friend who doesnt want to meet his friend. On hearing that Ibrahim (AS) said, O! Angel of death, take my soul, now. AFTER The passengers passed away, through the bridge and meet the king happily, how nice it will be for us to know the warm hospitality and welcome they are accorded by the king.
