My professional identity in SL is as Katie Fenstalker, a member of Cedar Island, an international community of artists, activists, educators, information technology (IT) specialists and others. I have completed two Sloane professional development courses on teaching in SL, provided by UMDs Office of IT. I am the convener of a feminist reading group in SL, which so far includes Canadian and US educators, as well as graduate students from UMD (Womens Studies & American Studies) and from the University of California at Santa Cruz (History of Consciousness), and is linked to a Facebook group of 64 international scholars in feminist technoscience. I presented on Second Life professional activities to the OIT Brown Bag lunch discussion series on Second Life in Education on March 5, 2010 for the Office of Information Technology, University of Maryland, College Park. I have offered five presentations in Second Life to mixed community groups there, and led many discussions on feminist topics.
