Provide case management for all BEETS interns including educational attainment (High School completion, GED, Higher Ed, Financial Aid), employment and career counseling, safety and harm reduction, housing, and mental health services. Train, supervise and promote leadership development for 36 BEETS interns annually. Assist with BEETS payment and timesheet issues, as requested by the DoP. Provide follow up services to BEETS alumni.
Required Qualifications: Education and Experience BA or higher (or equivalent experience) in relevant field (environmental education, workforce development, social work, youth development, etc). At least 3 years experience supervising employees, interns and volunteers. At least 5 years experience teaching youth ages 15-21, especially in an outdoor and/or job training setting. Experience in working with, and relating to, historically underserved youth from a diversity of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Experience in basic garden maintenance. Knowledge of, and experience with, environmental justice issues. Wilderness training, group dynamics, leadership, facilitation, and group management skills are desirable. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Highly computer literate and excellent writing skills. Excellent communication and team building skills Knowledge of, and experience with, environmental justice issues and environmentally related professions. Excellent classroom management skills. Proven ability to work independently and as an effective member of a team.. Pass a background check and a TB test prior to start date. Possess a valid CA drivers license. Travel between garden sites on a daily basis. Desired Qualifications: Spanish Bi-lingual Experience living and/or working in the Western Addition. Work Environment Able to navigate local travel Able to work outdoors in different and sometimes inclement weather conditions Able to teach in a garden setting, which may be dusty or dirty, or have slippery surfaces Physical Demands Able to sit in front of a computer for up to five hours per day, inputting data/answering e-mails, etc. Able to navigate multiple sets of steps Bend, stoop, kneel, sit and/or stand for extended periods of time Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
