The test-house radiographic section houses two 4x4 metre chambers equipped to handle both X and Gamma-Ray radiography. The facility provides a highquality inspection service covering a wide range of components, from electronic chips to heavy-wall castings up to 3 thick.

Material Measurements has accrued expert knowledge through its frequent involvement in large-scale radiographic examinations for all sectors of industry but in particular aviation, with which it shares a close working relationship. The companys expertise has been used in many different ways, from forensic testing of criminal evidence to analysis of components for air-crash investigators.

Our radiographic chambers are equipped with 160kV dual-focus, constant potential X-ray units which enable very high levels of sensitivity to be obtained and provide the means to examine small components such as integrated circuits and miniaturised semiconductors. Being able to work on this scale has enabled us to provide a service to the electrical and electronic manufacturing industries that has proved very successful in identifying and resolving pre-production and manufacturing defects, thus saving time and resources.

Our forward-looking investment in X-ray equipment and technology has placed us at the forefront of radiographic testing and analysis. This has particular relevance to aerospace manufacturing where new materials and production processes require that we keep pace with the demands imposed by progress within the industry. Although the radiographic inspection of final machined components is seldom required we have been involved with the detection of braze material trapped within composite assemblies in such diverse applications as the cooling systems of spaceflight vehicles to machined forgings used by a number of leading motor-racing teams.

By a gradual process of recommendation, our reputation in the manufacturing industry has spread to other walks of life and we are now acknowledged as one of the leading exponents of special-effect radiography for advertising and marketing graphics. We are also becoming wellknown amongst the keepers of the nations heritage as a result of the growing demand for our kidglove service to museums and art galleries wishing to probe the innermost secrets of their priceless treasures.
