1. Describe the setting. Provide as many details as possible. It is in the 1900 when television got popular suddenly. The main character is mostly on the street or ally, somewhere outside the house but not anywhere in his house. The setting is very quiet and calm. 2. Describe the society in which Leonard Mead lives. The society is quite peaceful because policeman was lesser as the main character said. People in the society are not sociable, they spend more time watching the television rather than talking to each other. Lastly they are more of an updated society. They all mostly have television and also tell us that people in the society are quite wealthy. 3. Explain the possible reasons that Leonard Mead does not fit into this society One of the most obvious reasons was that Leonard Mead does not really care about the modern technology. He has an air conditioning but he does not use them and everyone got a television but he doesnt. Secondly, Leonard Mead is a writer. Most of the people in that time would be laborer or employees. Lastly, Leonard Mead enjoys thing other people dont like walking around his quite neighborhood alone. Why does he keep all of his lights on? I am not really sure but I think that it is because he wants people to know that this is his house. It is also easier for him to recognize his house where everyones house is dark and he house is bright. It might be that it is one of Lenard Mead special habit too. 4. Bradbury uses repetition of words and images to establish the tone or mood of the story. What is the tone? What specific words or images does Bradbury repeat to help establish the tone of the story? Identify at least three words or images. The mood is kind of a freedom mood when you are just all alone in a big amount of space. It also gives me a very relaxing and calm mood. Bradbury uses images of really quite places like the desert or a really quite place. He also often describe about the environment. He describes the coolness in the air and the object around him. It makes us feel like the place was empty because that is the only time where people pay more attention in it. Lastly he also mention that the place was calm and quite throughout the story. 5. Mead is taken to the Psychiatric Center for Research on Regressive Tendencies. What does Regressive mean? Why would he be taken there just for walking down the street? Regressive means to become less advances. He is taken to the Psychiatric Centre because the police thought that he had some mental problem. As nobody like walking around at that time period, they are more to technology. 6. What might have happened to this society that there would be no crime, but that walking would be considered criminal behavior? What is Bradbury suggesting about society (theme)? It is because while you are walking people would think that you are planning to do something bad. Like robbing their house or stealing their car by observation your habits. Bradbury suggests that sometime technology would make good thing look bad.
