Creation to Christ- Week 3

©Tad Wychopen 2009

Day 1
Daily Reading: Genesis 11:1-9; Psalm 40

It is clear from God’s Word that rebellion against God is a futile. When Satan rebelled, he was cast out of
heaven. When Adam and Eve rebelled, they were punished. When the descendents of Adam and Eve
rebelled against God, they were destroyed by the flood. When someone rebels against God, they will be
punished. In this lesson, you will see that the reason there are multiple languages on the earth is because of
rebellion against God.

1.) After the flood, how many languages were spoken in the world? (Genesis 11:1)

Explanation: Wow, think about how nice that would be! No learning English, Chinese, Spanish, etc. if
everyone could speak the same language! The people settled in Shinar, which is near present day Iraq.

2.) Go back and read Genesis 9:1-17. What is the command?

3.) Read verses 11:3-4. Did the people obey and fill the earth?

4.) What two things did they wan tot build? (11:4)

5.) Did they want to exalt God’s name or their own name?

Explanation: They wanted to make a strong city with a high tower so that they could be very powerful.
They wanted to use the tower for worship. They probably would not use it to worship God, but the stars and
planets instead.

6.) Did the Lord ignore this disobedience of building a tower and staying in one place?

7.) What did God do to stop their rebellion? (11:7)

8.) Did this help them scatter over the earth? (11:8) Why?

9.) What was the place called where God confused the languages? (11:9)

Explanation: God knew that if man continued in his rebellious path by building the city and tower, their sin
would grow even more! God wisely separated the people by confusing the languages. It is hard to work
together when you have no ides what the other person is saying. All the different cultures and nations
originated from this event.

Application: God is very wise! He knows that man is sinful and needs His direction. Do not rebel against
God. You will not succeed. Praise God for His wonderful plan!

Day 2
Daily Reading: Genesis 11:27-12:9; Ecclesiastes 9

God always knows what to do and what will happen. He knows the future. God chose Abram to be the one
who would begin a great nation. From his line the Promised One would eventually come. God commands
man to do certain things; man’s response must be faith and obedience.

1.) Read Genesis 11: 27-32. Who was Abram’s father?

2.) From where did Abram come? (11:29)

3.) To where did they move? (11:31)

4.) God spoke to Abram. What did God ask Abram to do? (12:1)

5.) Did God tell Abram where he should go? (12:1)

6.) List the blessings or promises that God gave to Abram in verses 2 and 3.

Explanation: These promises are quite amazing! God promised to Abram that he would become come the
line through which the Promised One would come. The Promised One is a blessing to every person!

7.) Did Abram obey God’s command? (12:4-5)

8.) What area of land did they come to? (talked about in the end of verse 5)

9.) What other promise did God make to Abram?

10.)How did Abram respond to God’s promise?

Explanation: God made some outstanding promises to Abram. Abram was simply commanded to leave his
country. Abram, by faith, obeyed the word of the Lord. Abram is a great testimony and example of faith and
obedience.

Application: Our responsibility is the same as Abram’s: trust and obey! What promises of God have you not
been trusting? What commands have you not been obeying? God will bless your faith and obedience! Read
Proverbs 3:5-6. Abraham trusted the Lord, and the Lord directed his path. We should trust the Lord and He
will direct our path!

Day 3
Daily Reading: Genesis 15:1-7, 17:1-19, 21:1-7; Psalm 41
God established a covenant with Abram. God always held His end of the covenant with Abram. It is always
best to follow God’s way and trust His Word! Even when things seem difficult, ore impossible, we must
continue to trust God’s Word. He never fails!

1.) In Genesis 15:1, what did God promise to be for Abram?

2.) Was the promised son of Abram Eliezer of Damascus? (15:2-5)

3.) How many descendants did God promise Abram? (15:5)

4.) Did Abram believe God’s Word? (15:7)

Explanation: Abram was not righteous by himself, but his faith was counted as righteousness. We must
have faith in Jesus Christ to be counted righteous. Without faith, it is impossible to please God!

5.) Read Genesis 17:1-8. Did God promise to make Abram and his descendants into a great nation?

6.) What was Abrams name changed to?

7.) Read Genesis 17:15-19. To what was Sarai’s name changed?

8.) What did God promise to Sarah? (17:19)

9.) Read Genesis 21:1-7. Did Sarah have a child?

10.)What was his name?

11.)How old was Abraham when Isaac was born?

Explanation: God’s Word is always trustworthy. Abraham thought that his wife was too old to have a child,
so he figured that Eliezer or Ishmael would be his descendant. However, God’s promise came true: that
Sarah would bear a son! God’s Word must be trusted and obeyed.

Application: When we don’t trust God, we create problems for ourselves. Trust God and let Him lead your
life. He knows the future and wants you to trust Him with your future. Are you willing to trust God even
during the most difficult trials in life? Remember, trust Him and obey His word!

Day 4
Daily Reading: Genesis 22:1-19; Hebrews 11:8-19; Ecclesiastes 10

This is one of the most beloved chapters in the Bible. The account of Abraham and Isaac in Genesis 22 is
quite astonishing. At this time, Isaac was at least a teenager, but probably even older. Isaac was the pride of
Abraham. God put Abraham’s faith through a test; God wanted to examine Abraham’s heart.

1.) In Genesis 22:2, what did God ask Abraham to do?

Explanation: Ok, hold on a second....what is going on here!?! God just asked Abraham to do something
extremely strange and difficult! Abraham must have thought that this was especially strange since God had
promised to make a grate nation from the descendent of his son Isaac.

2.) What was Abraham’s response to God’s command? (22:3)

3.) From verse 5, what makes you realize that Abraham believed God would allow Isaac to live or even
be resurrected from the dead?

4.) Read the conversation in Genesis 22:6-8. Do you think Abraham believed in God to provide? Do you
think that Abraham was a little nervous?

Explanation: Abraham had to be wondering how and what God would do to provide a sacrifice. He
believed that Isaac was going to make a great nation, and He believed that God would keep that promise.
Abraham had amazing faith!

5.) Read Hebrews 11:8-19. What verse tells us that Abraham believe that God could raise Isaac from the
dead?

6.) Go back to Genesis 22. What prevented Abraham from sacrificing Isaac?

7.) What did this event prove? (22:12)

8.) Did God provide another sacrifice for Abraham and Isaac? (13-14)

9.) Read Genesis 22:15-19. What did the Angel promise Abraham?

Explanation: Abraham showed great faith and obedience to God. He was asked to do something very hard,
but he demonstrated that he completely trusted God and was willing to obey God’s command.
Application: Throughout the Word of God, we see that God gives a command and the servant either has
faith and obeys, or they demonstrate unbelief through their disobedience. Abraham was a great man of faith.
His testimony proves to us that having faith and obeying God’s plan is better than making our own plans
without God. How will you demonstrate your faith and obedience to God’s Word?

Day 5
Daily Reading: Genesis 25:19-34; Psalm 42

Abraham was faithful to God and God was faithful to Abraham. In this passage, Isaac’s sons are mentioned.
The descendents of Abraham are starting to multiply. God’s promise is coming true. Eventually, they would
become a great nation. Read this chapter and keep in mind that fulfilling your desires for immediate,
temporal pleasures can have long-lasting spiritual affects.

1.) Who was the wife of Isaac? (25:19)

2.) What did Isaac plead to the Lord about in verse 21?

3.) Did God answer the request?

4.) How many children did Rebekah have in her womb?

Explanation: God allowed Isaacs prayers to be answered. Rebekah had two nations in her womb. In verse
23, the Lord told Rebekah about the future of her two boys. Interestingly, the older would serve the younger
brother.

5.) What were the names of the two boys?

6.) Describe the character of the two boys.

7.) In Genesis 25:29-30, what did Esau want since he was so tired?

8.) What did Jacob want in return for the bowl of stew?

Explanation: The birthright had extreme physical and spiritual importance. However, Esau was not
concerned about this very important privilege. Instead, he was more concerned with immediate fulfillment.

9.) Did Esau agree to Jacob’s proposal?

10.)Do you think Esau would later regret his foolish actions?

Explanation: Esau was more concerned with fulfilling his immediate needs by satisfying his appetite. Jacob
was keenly aware of the importance of the birthright. He took advantage of the situation. Jacob was a
deceiver and liar, but he still knew the spiritual importance of the birthright.

Application: What have you wanted so bad that you did something which you later regretted and knew was
a sin? We must act wise and consider what is of true, spiritual value! Don’t live for temporal, physical
pleasures. When you obey God, you may not see immediate results or the immediate fulfillment to a
promise. However, our responsibility is to obey God. Seek the spiritual and eternally valuable things of
Christ!

Day 6
Daily Reading: Acts 5-6; Ecclesiastes 11
Read Acts 5-6. Using only 2-3 sentences, try to give a brief summary of the events of these chapters. Read
about the dedication that the disciples had to Jesus Christ and write about their courage and faith.

Day 7
Daily Reading: Ecclesiastes 12; Psalm 43
Read Ecclesiastes 12. Write down why it is important to remember the Creator. Most of the book is written
about the futility of life. Explain the author’s conclusion to his thoughts about life. (12:13-14)

Read Psalm 43. In whom should we place our hope? Explain why.
