2011 APIS Background

APIS is a nationwide survey designed to provide non-income indicators related to poverty Conducted during years when the Family Income and Expenditures Survey (FIES) is not conducted

Used the 2003 Master Sample (MS) for household-based Surveys of NSO MS utilized the list of census enumeration areas and households from the 2000 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) Sampling Scheme Multi Stage
First stage - sample PSUs Second stage - sample enumeration (EAs) Third stage - sample housing units

APIS gathers information on the following items:
Demographic characteristics Health Status Schooling Status and Highest Grade Completed Economic Characteristics Housing Characteristics and Amenities Water and Sanitation Social Protection Hunger Family Income and Expenditure

The module has been given a limited space in the APIS questionnaire being a rider module There are SP programs in the module whose beneficiary could hardly be captured in the survey such as: Private medical insurance; Maternity
Benefit; Training for Work Scholarship Program; Agrarian Reform Community Development Program; Scholarship (Private); Sickness/injury compensation

In the survey, beneficiaries of SP programs are identified through the question on whether or not family member received payments from the program.

Conduct a stand-alone survey to get more detailed information on social protection If dedicated survey on SP is not possible, continue including SP questions in APIS To make APIS a designated statistical activity or part of System of Designated Statistics SP Questions in a household survey should be crafted appropriately for each SP program in order to capture the intended beneficiaries or those covered by the SP program
