A Note from Donna

Members, Tonight's theme is Friendship. I am hoping you will all enjoy having friends along to share these beautiful quilts. We are a very talented group of artists!! It's important for us to share that talent and knowledge with others. Our new meeting place should be a wonderful place to spread out and be able to enjoy each other. Special thanks to all that stepped in and brought extra treats for our guests tonight. Our guest lecture by Amy Winsor and our September meeting will be on Friday, the 6th, at 6:00 P.M. We will be inviting friends and the surrounding guilds to join us that evening. The workshop the next day should be wonderful! We will enjoy learning new, stress free quilting techniques. After all, this is supposed to be our hobby! We will be setting up committees to assist with the planning and preparation soon, so please think about what you might want to do. We will also be showing our Challenge Quilts that evening and will have prizes for different categories. Voting will be done by the attending guests! Hope you are all well into planning your "Movie Tribute" quilt. Maybe some have even begun stitching? This is YOUR Guild. My goal is to have activities and fun events that every member might enjoy. If you have an idea, did something with another guild that was a huge success, want to explore an activity the guild might want to do, PLEASE let one of the Board members know!! We are always looking for suggestions and ideas for something new and different our guild can do!

Favorite Quilt Author: Simply Charming book series by Konda Luckau Favorite Quilt: Pineapple Wall Hanging. I almost threw all of those small pieces away from making the first block, but I was thankful I remained faithful to the task. I made those little blocks by machine piecing; next time I might try paper piecing them. Cherished Memories: Attending the Hampton Quilt Show every year since my retirement. Fall Lecture Workshop September 6-7

AMY WINSOR
Curvaceous Pieced Houses for the Precision Impaired 6 Sep: Lecture at South Henderson Church of God 7 Sep: 6 Hr. Workshop$45 20 Members Only Amy is a quilt artist and instructor from Morrisville, NC, who doesnt measure, doesnt make templates, avoids matching corners, never plans ahead, and usually fudges the rules. In many of her quilts, free motion quilting made of cursive writing tells stories and messages all over the quilt. Workshop: Intermediate Level. Create whimsical houses using no rulers or patterns while you learn to do curved piecing. Each house will be cut freehand with gentle curves using your rotary cutter.

Program Notes
Donna Sontag, from Whatevers Quilted in Wake Forest, presented a demonstration and talk on machine quilting. She brought a 16 Handi Quilter and allowed members to try their hand. It isnt as easy as she makes it look; fun nonetheless! Donnas shop provides a variety of services from quilting supplies to finished quilting. See her ad on the back page for contact information.

* Charity Quilt Opportunity: St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Arlington, VA: The Guild voted to support the
churchs Love Quilt project which provides quilts to orphaned children in Africa. Our guild has requested five sets of 4.5 blocks painted by children in the United States to include in these twin size quilts. The completed quilts will be given to and distributed by St. Francis Outreach Trust of South Africa. To learn more about this project visit the churchs website at: www.saint-peters.org Then click on Ministries > Missions > Love Quilt Project.
