1. INTRODUCTION. The wind energy is extracted from the wind. Its the oldest energy used by man.

The wind energy used to produce electricity through wind turbines. It is an abundant and renewable. It is a video to take the bases of wind energy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niZ_cvu9Fts

2. EVOLUTION. The first wind machines have documentation which are the sixth century AD They were vertical and they were used to grind grain and pump water. During the Middle Ages many mills were built as a way to force his subjects to grind the beans in the mills of property. At the end of the fifteenth century were built the first windmills for the development of oil, paper and wood processing mills. At the end of the nineteenth century, were used for industrial purposes, at home and farms. But the wind turbines that produce electricity today are new and innovative. Their story began with a few technical innovations, such as the use of synthetics to make rotor blades. Developments in the field of aerodynamics, mechanical/electrical engineering, control technology, and electronics provide the technical basis for wind turbines commonly used today.

6. WIND FARM. A wind farm is a group of wind turbines that convert wind energy into electrical energy. They can be located on land or at sea .They use wind power to drive turbines and produce electricity. Its performance is highly variable because they depend on weather conditions.

7. WIND TURBINES. They are big mills between 40 or 50 meters tall with blades up to 23 meters in diameter. They are formed by: -The blades, normally 3 per turbine. -The tower which holds -The turbine which contains the rotor

8. HOW MADE THE TURBINES? The wind makes it move the blades and turn the rotor to convert wind energy into electrical energy.

3. ADVANTAGES. The wind energy is a good energy because: Is renewed continuously. Is inexhaustible, never finished. Dont pollute, its a clean energy. Universal, used in most of the countries of the world, although many with few installations. Is cheaper than others energies. Dont destroy the environment.

4. DISADVANTAGES. But wind energy has some drawbacks: The visual impact modify the landscape with the construction of wind turbines. The impact on bird because they collision against the blades. The noise impact because the wind turbines produce a constant noise.

5. WHERE THEY ARE? This energy is used by many countries. But Europe and the United States are the most in use, with a high number of megabits. In Europe there are 12.620 MW and in United States 2.250 MW

9. ENVIRONMENT IMPACT. The environmental impact caused by the construction of wind turbines depends on: In the area of installation, should be a desert area without population around and where there are airflows. From its size, should be large desert areas. In the distance to population centers because they produce very annoying constant noise. But produce environment pollute too, for example: The construction of wind turbines cause degradation of the landscape. Blade detachment accidents: the blades fall and broke. Electromagnetic interference Impact on wildlife: birds flying near wind turbines can crash into the blades and die

10. COST. They cost 1.200 per KW. The lifetime of a turbine is 20 years. After these 20 years they should be renewed. Its installations are more expensive than other energies, but its performance is also higher.
