Yearbook Proposal

The concept for this yearbook is based on the rule of three, due to all the students having completed a three year BA (Hons) Graphic Design course here at Leeds College of Art. The design will therefore use a three column grid, the publication will be broken into three visible sections and will utilise the rule of three where else possible. In order to enable continuity within the publication, the yearbook will work with three sections. The final outcome of students work will determine how the work is presented to ensure the work is showcased at its best, the yearbook will present work within a 3D environment first, flat editorial work second and finally screen based work.

The yearbook cover will be printed on GFSmith 270gsm Colorplan white frost paper stock. The colour on the cover will be UV spot varnished to create a difference in texture. The cover design will have an extended front cover which will open out to reveal a paragraph of information about the course and encase a 28 x 28 cm square pull out contact poster. The pull out poster will include a photograph of each graduating student and their contact details. It will be held in place via two die cut slits at two of the corners and be slotted into place, the poster can then be removed and retained as a point of contact to all graduating students. The pull out poster will be printed on GFSmith 100gsm Colorplan white frost paper stock. The spine of the yearbook will use an exposed bind which will allow you to see each leaf of the book. It will also allow for maximum visibility of the images in the book as the spine will open to lye flat as not to cut any of the imagery out.

A.

The yearbook will use Neutraface Bold: a sans serif typeface for headings and primary information.
Garamond: a serif typeface for body copy and secondary information for legibility.

Design is empowering if you believe in something you have all the tools to campion the cause.

The colour scheme will use only three colours in order to allow the yearbook to remain minimal and primarily focus on the students work. The colours used will be black, white and #A1FFCB. This spot colour will also be used as a paper stock throughout the yearbook as it is colour matched to GFSmith Colorplan Park Green stock.

Yearbook Proposal

A.

The grid system is based on 3 columns, a very open layout to maximise image heavy layout. The left and bottom margins have been extended for any written information.

B.

The contents page will focus on the students pages; the students will be ordered alphabetically by their surname with their corresponding page numbers listed below their name. This will allow users to easily navigate to each students work within the book.

C.

Each student will be allocated a double page spread; this will contain the students professional contact information, a short personal statement, images of their work and the page number. One full page is solely focused on image to give an overall shot of a project while the second page is dedicated to close ups of the project to give a better feel for the process.

D.

There will be 3 1/3 pages of the GFSmith 150gsm Colorplan Park Green coloured paper stock staged throughout the yearbook, these pages will contain quotes from each of the tutors and be positioned between a black and white double page spread of images of college resources.
