Our research includes the study of processes modeling of rock destruction elements interaction with rocks. This research has been conducted on different testbenches, by means of finite element analysis in corresponding integrated programming environment. Mathematical group of Drilling Tool Design Center conducts computational modeling of bit hydraulic system, thermodynamic processes of drilling tools manufacturing which are based on strength estimations. The most important aspect of our scientific research is studying bottomhole assembly dynamics. We concentrate on the quality of diamond cutters utilizing bench testing and our testing of cutters is conducted in real drilling conditions.

Our dedication to research has resulted in production of matrix PDC and impregnated bits by powder metallurgical techniques. This research allowed for the development of initial binders for impregnated tools manufacturing. Our research base is laboratories studying drilling muds and cement slurries. Soft formation PDC Bits


This bit series is designed for drilling soft formations of I-IV category of hardness. Due to maximum diameter of cutters and their aggressive arrangement drilling is carried out at high ROP. Specially designed bit profile provides uniform wear and the most comprehensive tool run. Optimally designed junk slot area prevents from creation of stagnation zones and accumulation of drilled cuttings. Flushing nozzles directed in such a way that bit cutting structure and maximally loaded zones are permanently flushed. Soft to medium formation PDC Bits


This bit series is designed for drilling soft interbedded with medium formations of II-V category of hardness. Analysis of multiple bit runs allowed designers to develop a bit with optimal quantity of cutters on minimum quantity of blades. Aggressive cutting structure provides maximum ROP. Due to specially developed bit cleaning method (the effectiveness of which has been repeatedly proven in practice) enhanced hydraulics coping with large volume of drilled cuttings was created for applications where balling is present. In spite of low blade quantity designers preserved steerability without speed loss which is paramount while directional drilling. All mentioned features were proven in field runs, and have become market leading bits in their areas.

Hard formation PDC Bits


This bit series is specially designed for drilling hard formations of IV-VII category of hardness. Highest shock- and abrasion-resistant cutters are used in production of these bits. Specially designed bit profile and optimally selected quantity of blades provide maximum overlap of cutters protecting bit from early wear. Thoroughly calculated bit cutting structure on internal software system allowed to minimize disbalance of forces. Spiral shape of blades is used to increase stability behavior of bit on the bottomhole. Active gauge protection allows to drill considerable intervals without diameter loss. Thoughtful bit design made it possible to optimally arrange flushing channels providing maximum cutter cooling. Matrix Bits
Matrix Bits are optimal solution for well drilling where use of ordinary steel bits lead to their rapid erosive wear. Manufacturing a matrix bit body from a composite material based on tungsten carbide allows bits to drill in high abrasive formations using weighted drilling mud. Impregnated Bits
Our impregnated rock destruction tools are capable of drilling formations up to XI category of hardness and XII category of abrasiveness. Bits have composite layers made up of specially selected mixtures of diamond powder of different sizes and alloy. Mixture composition is defined individually depending on drilling conditions. This type of tool is effective in drilling with high-speed hydraulic motors and turbines. High rotational speed allows maximum rock destruction. Specially designed bit profile allows use of large volume of diamond material. This feature increases durability of gauge and front parts and protects gauge in abrasive formations.

PURPOSE Bit is designed for drilling at high ROP in hard and strong formations of VII-XI categories of hardness and up to XII category of abrasiveness. DESCRIPTION Blades of bit are reinforced with specially selected mixture of high quality diamonds, which allows increasing bit durability at high ROP. Center of bit is equipped with PDC cutters. Bit cutting structure made up of hot-pressed inserts with impregnated diamonds allows achieving higher ROP.

Bits for Rotary Steerable Systems


Appearance of Rotary Steerable Systems (RSS) allowed changing of traditional technology and increasing of techno-economic performance of well drilling. One of the components of successfully carrying out drilling operations with use of RSS is a competent approach to selection of drilling tools capable to realize all the potential of this system. Special attention should be given in accounting for two main types of RSS according to method of bit displacement control relative to well axis: 1. Push the bit radial displacement of whole assembly or its major part with respect to well axis; 2. Point the bit positioning of bit is achieved by means of tilting drive shaft with respect to BHA. Two different RSS types require widely different bit designs. Lateral and axial loads are accounted for in the cutting structures gauge length and its aggressiveness. Cutting structure durability must correspond to RSS requirements. BURINTEKH produces bits for both types of RSS. Bit performance data and drilling companies responses allow us to proudly state that our bits are competitive with world manufacturers bits and surpass them in some rates.

Bicentric Bits
Bicentric Bits allow drilling wells of bigger diameter than it is usually possible with diameter of earlier inserted casing string. Design features of bicentric bits provide good steerability, high ROP and qualitative hole enlargement. Special attention is paid to the performance of these bits. Bits are equipped with tungsten carbide teeth. Small and medium diameter (70-250 mm) bits are designed for drilling liner equipment, cement and sand plugs and other operations in cased hole. Bits of big diameter (250-500 mm) are ideally suited for drilling sections for conductor and surface casing which are represented by low abrasive soft and medium formations.

In 2010 roller cone bit manufacturing facility was acquired in USA having more than 37 year experience of creating high quality rock destruction tools, smoothly running and permanently upgradable manufacturing technologies, which produce API/ISO certified production for internal and external (including Russian) markets. In 2012 roller cone bit manufacturing was organized in Ufa city. Big work was done, up-to-date equipment was purchased, specialists with wide experience in roller cone bit manufacturing were staffed who are regularly sent to USA for training and qualification upgrade. American professionals permanently present at manufacturing, control the quality of operations at each production phase. We have a modernized researching laboratory and test-bench, which help to control and improve quality of production. Bearing sleeves and thrust washers made up of extremely hard material, covered with silver, decrease friction coefficient and increase bearing life. Labyrinth sealing with special tortuous path prevents penetration of abrasives into the bearing for increased life. Special geometry of reaming gauge surface prevents cuttings from accumulating.

Lubricating system
Special grease distribution and circulation system provides effective heat transfer from bearing. Proprietary synthetic grease combined with compatible seal material increase seal life. The function of the pressure compensating system is to equalize the pressure inside the bearing section with downhole annular pressure. Leakage test of all bit sections guarantees hundred-percent reliability of lubricating system.

Gauge
All roller cone bits have full set of options for directional drilling: Enhanced gauge, reinforced with double quantity of tungsten carbide inserts, perfectly protects bit while high dogleg severity drilling and allows maintaining nominal well diameter; Shirttail hardfacing protects seals from early wear; Additional reaming gauge rows patented technology protecting seals from overheating due to friction between bit and wellbore.

Underreamers RR
RR type underreamers are designed for enlarging any interval of wellbore (for liners, profile shutter, repair and insulation work intervals) in soft and medium hard formations. RR H type underreamers are designed for reaming while drilling as a part of BHA comprising pilot drill bit or previously drilled interval. RR Sp type underreamers are designed for carrying out special operations in openhole intended to form a cavity within a wellbore for further intentional sidetracking from original hole. Expansion of blades, equiped with high quality PDC cutters, into operating position is provided by the effect of differential fluid pressure between flowbore and wellbore annulus. Delivery set of all types of underreamers includes back pressure valve which prevents tool from sludging during round-trip operations and interchangeable blades easily replaceable in rig conditions, significantly reducing repair and maintenance costs.

Blade Reamers RL
RL type blade reamers are designed for drilling wells with pilot bit or enlarging previously drilled intervals. Service life of reamers is equal to service life of PDC bits in same conditions, herewith enlarging is carried out at high ROP. Reamers blades, equipped with PDC cutting structure, have backreaming cutters and reinforced gauge protection. Delivery set of reamers includes interchangeable blades easily replaceable in rig conditions, significantly reducing repair and maintenance costs. For providing effective cuttings removal reamers are equipped with changeable wear resistant nozzles. For enlarging previously drilled intervals reamer can be completed with extending sub and PZU (special tool preventing from accidental sidetracking) equipped with jet nozzles.

Core Heads
BURINTEKH develops and produces steel and matrix body core heads, equipped with PDC cutters, thermally stable polycrystalline (TSP), impregnated diamonds or their combination. Core heads equipped with PDC and TSP cutters are designed for coring in unconsolidated, soft, medium and hard formations providing maximum core recovery at high penetration rates. Core barrels are designed for coring with downhole hydraulic motor or rotor in formations of I-III category of recovery difficulty using core heads equipped with PDC cutters, thermally stable polycrystalline (TSP), impregnated diamonds or its combination. High quality bare pipes of domestic and foreign manufacturers are used in producing core barrels. All components pass strict quality control. Core barrel design is multi-purpose and allows using one barrel for coring isolated and non-isolated core due to using fiberglass core tubes and insulating fluid.

Casing Window Milling Kits

In contrast to Overhead one trip system Overhead Hydro does not require support on bottomhole (cement plug). Fixation of whipstock in casing is provided due to special hydraulic anchor, which activates under the effect of high liquid pressure created in pipes. Reamer stabilizer KRp-2ST is designed for calibrating and reaming well sections represented by medium, hard and abrasive formations. Reamer stabilizers allow reaming horizontal and high dogleg severity wells preventing accidental sidetracking and sizing wellbore to nominal diameter. Modernized pipe puncher PTM is designed for punching 825 mm holes in tubing and casing

from 60 to 168 mm of domestic and foreign manufacturers to make a communication between the interior cavity and the exterior annular space. This hole provides circulation restoring, prevents pulling pipes with fluid out of wellbore, and refilling into cement sheath and decreases environmental pollution while well workover operations. Punchers are produced of several series: ordinary K, for application in gas medium G, for application at depth 3000-6000 m VD. Punchers are run in a hole on wire, cable, flush-joint pipes or by throwing off. Potential energy of a fluid column and pumping unit pressure are used to actuate a puncher.

Design of torsional jar is own BURINTEKH, Ltd. development protected by Russian and foreign patents. Why is stuck tool released by only up-and-down impacts along well axis? In fact, life experience suggests that for pulling, for example, driven nail out it is better not only pull it, but pull with simultaneous turn. Obviously, it is easier to free stuck downhole tool if not only axial impact loads but also shock torsion torque are applied. To solve this challenge, we developed torsional jars SHOCK TURN, which can affect stuck tool by clockwise and counterclockwise and up-and-down impacts in different combinations. Main advantages are: High power capacity. BURINTEKH permanently expands the range of products, and today, offers several unique solutions in the form of brand new tools like dampers and bit protectors, which provide optimal uniform loading of rock destruction tool, and damping of torsional, axial vibrations and impacts acting on drill bit. One more tool is string reciprocator, which helps to release stuck downhole tool in lateral or horizontal section of well. The use of string reciprocator together with hydraulic jar considerably increases effectiveness of stuck tool releasing.

Stabilizers
BURINTEKH produces milled and welded stabilizers with straight and spiral blades for working in formations of various categories of hardness. Designed for reaming a wellbore and stabilizing drilling string components. Stabilizers of K and C series have following design features: KP (CP) stabilizer with straight blades; KS (CS) - stabilizer with spiral blades; KLS (CLS) - stabilizer with spiral blades directed opposite to direction of rotation. According to cutting structure, stabilizers can be: ST for working in formations of I-III category of hardness, equipped with tungsten carbide inserts; STK for working in formations of III-IV category of hardness, equipped with tungsten carbide inserts, slugs and impregnated diamond grains; TK - for working in formations of V-VI category of hardness, equipped with tungsten carbide slugs and impregnated diamond grains.

Dampers
Damper is own original BURINTEKH, Ltd. development protected by patent. Damper KPD is designed for providing optimal uniform loading of rock destruction tool where unbalanced, because of friction, movement of drill string is present, and for damping of axial vibrations acting on drill bit while drilling. Damper is placed above mud motor or MWD and does not require an additional differential pressure to work.

String reciprocator RKM is designed for releasing a stuck downhole tool or equipment by up-and-down impacts with static axial load (tension) and torque. Main advantages: increase of effectiveness of stuck tool releasing in lateral or horizontal section due to working together with axial or torsional jar of YAGR(B) series; minimum influence on a drilling process; ability of installing in tensile or compressed string section, moreover on inclined or horizontal well interval; smooth, because of design features, passing through milled casing window while lateral well drilling; absence of severe restrictions on depth and temperature.
