MACBETH ACT V QUESTIONS 1. I really dont know why but I felt bad and good for him. Bad for him because of everything he did and how hard he fought just to be where he was. And good for him because of everything terrible he did in order to achieve this. 2. Because someone had to speak and tell what its happening, but no one will do it awake so it was better to do it sleeping. That he said that he really murdered in sleep and that sleep was innocent, balm hurt in minds, and great natures second course. That is related because Lady Macbeth is innocently speaking in her sleep. 3. The maid tells the doctor that a couple of times she had done the same thing. She tried to wash her hands because they were full of blood, and therefore moved them quickly as washing them. 4. Macduff shows that manhood comprises more than aggression and murder; allowing oneself to be sensitive and to feel grief is also necessary. This is an important lesson for Malcolm to learn if he is to be a judicious, honest, and compassionate king. 5. I consider the rising action when Birnam Wood is approaching the castle. And the climax the part where Macduff tells Macbeth that he is not born from a woman but for Caesarean section. 6. Lines 29-34 because there he says like good bye and that he would kiss the ground before Malcolm, and talks about the approaching forest and the no woman born child. In my opinion it all ends there, because he is like analyzing that everything he is saying has already happen and the only thing left hanging was his death.

7. Life is filled with good and bad. Its told by an idiot because we are unaware of whats to come in our lifetime. 8. They mightve perceived her as getting her just desserts. It might make the other ghosts seem less real since thered be too many ghosts already. It might add a little comic relief to the play, but it will also take away from King Duncans quick and short role in the play. 9. Macbeth threw away his life trying to go after the throne. Nothing became more important but sitting atop the throne. He had a complete disregard for the lives of others in order to attain his goal. These lines could apply to people in real life who feel really ambitious. 10. I do not think that Shakespeare sees evil as stronger than good or human understanding because in the end, Scotland is returned to her rightful king and Malcolm is an element of good in the play. Macbeth certainly is taken over by his greed and ambition, and a sense of evil gets the better of him and clouds his good judgment. However, evil overall does not reign supreme, and the audience sees the harm that evil has caused to Macbeth throughout the play. 11. I think Shakespeare tries to evoke sympathy by making Macbeth seem hopeless near the end. We begin to see him create his own destruction. There wasnt a point where I lost sympathy for Macbeth. 12. Macbeth is a truly human character with many flaws. His own attributes and virtues play against him in the finality of the play. Macbeth displays honor, virtue, and loyalty his country, these are all stripped of him when he takes a selfish lead in ambition and greed. These are universal qualities which if kept under control would have led him to great heights, instead he becomes a shell of a man having explored all evil boundaries exemplifying his

need for power. His very downfall is epitomized after his gluttony blinds his inward morality. 13. I think the murder of Duncan near the beginning only fueled their thirst for more blood. That murder only led Macbeth down a downward spiral of evil and malice. Macbeth might not feel so anxious about ascending to the throne if he hadnt murdered King Duncan. 14. One of the plays main conflict is the murder of Banquo. Macbeth felt remorse after his murder which led to him seeing hallucinations and the ghost of Banquo. 15. A modern figure would be Scar from Lion King. He is like Macbeth in that he wanted to usurp the throne from Mufasa. Scar was malicious in going about this, like Macbeth. Scar is different in that he wasnt related to King Mufasa, unlike Macbeth who only had a deep respect for King Duncan. Scar would make a good tragic hero. 16. In my opinion, all people have free will and can do what they want. I do not see anything in Macbeth that makes me think that he is not choosing to do the things he does. 17. The witches' prophecies do, of course, influence him to act. However, he has to interpret the words they say and it is his actions that make the prophecies come true, for the most part. 18. Yes, some people should see Macbeth in a less serious tone. That way they can see and appreciate the themes and symbols in a more comical manner. A. In Scene 3, the doctor told Macbeth that Lady Macbeth sleepwalked because of heavy thoughts that kept her awake. He said that the problem was within herself, and therefore could be solved by no other than herself. B. They think Macbeth is a wrongful evil that should be removed at all costs. C. Lady Macbeth dies in scene 5 of Act 5.

D. Macbeth has no plan really and just fortifies the castles. He hangs up banners and boasts that his castle will repel the enemy. He is confident since he believes no man of woman-born can harm him. E. Pride has poisoned his mind so much that he no longer believes that repentance is even an option, as a result there is no hope of redemption. F. Macbeth uses recorded time, a candle, lifes but a walking shadow, and the stage. G. Macbeth is killed at the end, and Duncans son, Malcom, becomes King.
