ELECTION YEAR
The people of the United States are again entering the throes of a national election. Once in each four year period, we come face to face with the serious task of choosing a group of leaders to pilot our Ship of State. Since this is a task of great importance, your editor feels that we should establish firmly in our minds certain fundamental facts as a guide to our choice. We are therefore repeating some of these facts which were painted out in our editorial of August 1956. The task of choosing national leaders is approached by some people in a spirit of levity. Others, far too many others, approach it in a spirit of belligerence. Neither attitude is conducive of success in picking the individual best suited for the jab. We must remember that the Presidency of the United States is not a prize to be bestowed upon the actor who puts on the best show, nor upon the pugilist who wages the best fight. If we were choosing a man to pilot an airplane which was to carry us on a long and dangerous flight into an unknown region, we would be foolish to allow ourselves to be unduly influenced by the personality of the applicant. If we were wise, we would realize that personality is not necessarily a reflection of character. Our chief. concern would be the character of the applicant and his ability to pilot. In the coming months, as the time of decision draws near, we will be engulfed in a flood of oratory and exhortation praising this man and denouncing that. one. We will hear again, the glowing promises which have been made in every political campaign since our elective system was established, and which have seldom been remembered afterwards. We will find that the truly vital issues are seldom aired, but we will be belabored with endless arguments on corollary subjects of comparatively little importance.

Let us remember that the political party to which the candidate belongs is, at best, of only secondary importance. We have enjoyed prosperity and have suffered economic depression under each of the 1 two political parties now vying for power. We have been forced into war and have found the way to peace under each. The argument that the coming into power of one party or the other would pose a serious threat to our national welfare is a baseless one as history has proven upon many occasions. We should be slow to accept a candidate whose principal arguments are based on destructive criticism, remembering the classic advice given by a famous barrister to his law student, "If the law is on your side, talk the law. If justice is on your side, talk justice. But if neither law nor justice are on your side, your only hope is to lambaste the opposition." We should also remember that our choice is not restricted by law to the candidates chosen by the two major parties nor, for that matter, to the candidate of any particular party. We will be reminded of this fact in the coming months by a number of candidates for the presidency, who are independent of any of the existing political parties. In the next few issues of the magazine, we will bring to our readers something of the biography and the platforms of these independent candidates.

SPACECRAFT DEPARTMENT
'FLYING SAUCERS' SEEN BY MANY THANKSGIVING (From the Vista, Calif., Press) Many Vistans saw their first "flying saucer" the morning of Thanksgiving Day, last Thursday, when a silvery abject could be seen in the sky just east of the quarter-moon which was still visible at noon. Persons checking it with binoculars or telescopes said it seemed to have cloud layers in front and behind. Mrs. Mary Mitchell, former chief observer of the Ground Observer Corps here, was notified and called the Radar Squadron at Mt. Laguna. They had received other reports on the object and said it might be the planet Venus. They would give no further information. A Press reporter was among those witnessing the object and it did not appear to be a star or planet. It was definitely not a weather balloon. (Ed. Note: Understanding Unit No. 4 is located in Vista.) 2 MYSTERIOUS OBJECT SIGHTED IN CANADA MONTREAL

(AP)-A mysterious object was sighted Sunday night over the Royal Canadian Air Force Base at nearby St. Hubert. Reports today said it also hovered for several minutes over a playing field in Montreal's north end. Claude Mercier said he and about 10 of his neighbors saw the object. "It looked like a big round balloon, about 10 feet in diameter, with a yellow light inside," said Mercier. "Fiery sparks came from the under side of the object as it hovered over the field. "It was very low and it appeared as though it was going to land. But after hanging in the air a few minutes it took off, rising not vertically but at a slant and at a terrific speed. Within two or three minutes we had lost sight of it on the horizon." As it rose, he said, the yellow light inside the balloon seemed to go off. He said the sighting was about 8 p.m., approximately at the same time as people in the suburbs on the south shore opposite Montreal were reporting a mysterious red light over the RCAF base. TV SHOW HOST IS BELIEVER "I find it presumptuous of us to assume that our little globe is the end of the cosmos. Unidentified Flying Objects have been recorded in ancient times and it pleases me to believe they come from other worlds." -John Newland, host of "Alcoa Presents," ABC-TV network program. (quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle.)

AUTHOR FORESEES BROADER CONCEPTS "All too often our religions have concerned themselves with only two places-earth and heaven, disregarding other planets, stars and moons. The Universe is big. There may have been another Universe before ours. We are on the verge of expanding the whole cosmos, with new galaxies, planetary seas, and even perhaps discovering life on the other side of the moon." -George Christian Anderson, founder and director of the Academy of Religion and Mental Health. (in an article in Science of Mind magazine.) 3 MINISTER URGES PERSON-TO-PERSON UNDERSTANDING "I feel that it is part of my Christian vocation to try to build peace through understanding and good will. I feel that not all the efforts of peace need be left to the statesmen or politicians, but that there is a place for the plain, ordinary traveler in building bridges of understanding through friendly person-to-person exchanges."

--The Rev. Russell J. Prentice, minister of the First Presbyterian Church of Alhambra, Calif., who has twice traveled into Russia. (quoted in Alhambra Post-Advocate.)

WORLD REPORT
HUGE ASH LAYER FOUND IN PACIFIC (New York Herald Tribune Service) NEW YORK-Evidence of a momentous event about 100,000 years ago, perhaps world-shaking in force, has been found in an extensive glassy ash blanket at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Columbia University scientists who reported it today speculated that I. the layer may be debris from gigantic volcano explosions or the remains of a fantastic collision of heavenly bodies. (Ed. Note: 100,000 years ago also happens to be the date estimated by George Hunt Williamson for the ancient city of Tiahuanaco, Bolivia, which he described in his lecture "The City That Existed Before the Moon." Williamson said he believed the city was destroyed when another moon, different from the one now circling the earth, spiraled in on a collision course with the earth.) The fragments, much like splinters of a window pane, cover more than 500,000 square miles of the Ocean floor. ... Scientists aboard the Columbia research vessel Vema found the ash layer. The work was reported today by Dr. J. Lamar Worzel in the "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences." ... Eleven deep sea samples of the ash were brought up. Instruments that reflect sound waves off the sea floor have indicated that similar ash deposits may exist in the South Atlantic Ocean and Indian Ocean. 4 PLANETARY LIFE SEARCH GAINS WASHINGTON (UPI) -Scientific man is hunting confidently for evidence of intelligent life on the planets of other suns. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) plans to erect on the moon an astronomical observatory of sufficient range to see planetary systems of at least the nearer stars.

But this will take 10 to 20 years to do, if not longer. In the meantime, other scientists are about to try others ways of testing their belief that highly developed beings exist on other worlds. This attempt, Project Ozma, is being undertaken by Dr. Frank Drake and his colleagues at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory at Green Bank, W. Va. It is an attempt to spot radio signals from space of possibly intelligent origin. The project was named for Ozma, queen of the Land of Oz in "The Wizard of Oz" stories by Frank Baum. Oz, as Drake points out, was "a land far away populated by strange and exotic beings." Another, more prosaic name, fashioned for those who shy away from romance, is "search for extraterrestrial coherent transmissions (SECT)." TWO SOLAR SYSTEMS FOUND THAT MIGHT HAVE LIFE (From San Francisco, Calif., Chronicle) Two stars within a few light years of our own solar system have a fair chance of possessing planets with intelligent forms of life, a Berkeley astronomer reported here yesterday. The stars are relatively close to the earth--60 or 70 trillion miles away, which is close the way astronomers look at the universe. But their size, their luminosity and their composition are similar enough to our own sun so that their planets may be chemically much like the ones that wheel eternally through this solar system. ... Elsewhere in the universe, scattered throughout other galaxies infinitely far from our own, there may be many, many other solar systems, astronomers believe. The eminent Harvard astronomer, Harlow Shapley, has estimated that more than 100 million other suns in the known universe support earth-like planets containing sentient life. 5 SOUTH POLE SHIFTING MAY EXPLAIN FOSSILS (New York Herald Tribune Service) WEST POINT, N.Y. - A noted polar explorer has advanced new reasons to support an old theory of why coal and other tropical fossils are found in ice-caked Antarctica near the South Pole. Dr. Paul A. Siple, who has spent more time on that continent than any other man, suggested that the poles have migrated. The South Pole has slowly "walked" around the earth to now pass through once tropical Antarctica. Or, more accurately, over the ages the earth has very slowly revolved in a direction perpendicular to its east-west spin, according to the polar explorer. "The North Pole seems generally to be moving toward the 70-deg. meridian, which passes through Cape Cod," he said. "The South Pole is moving toward 110 deg. east. which is toward the western part of Australia."

Dr. Siple, who first went to the polar regions In 1928 as an Eagle Scout with Adm. Richard Byrd's expedition, said the axis around which the earth spins is now migrating at about 6 inches a year, or about 100 miles in a million years. LIFE ON OTHER PLANETS BUT DON'T WATT TO SEE CHICAGO (UPI)-A noted scientist supported the theory yesterday that life exists on other planets but warned against thinking that our 'space neighbors-when we meet them-will look like the guy next door. "They will look different from anything we can imagine;" Dr. Herman J. Muller, an Indiana University zoologist, told delegates to the National Science Teachers Assn. Muller said intelligent beings on other planets will have senses such as hearing and sight but will probably be as different from humans as a lobster is. Evolution, Muller said, whenever it occurs, is the result of accident in addition to a logical pattern. Muller said our space neighbors may also have a method of learning far superior to what we know. Some may even be more advanced than earth inhabitants, he said. 6 MINISTER PREDICTS SPIRITUAL AWAKENING (From Alhambra, Calif., Post-Advocate) A higher standard of living, diminishing cold war, breakthroughs in the use of solar energy and extrasensory perception and a great spiritual awakening are predicted for the coming years by Dr. Thomas Wyatt, leader of the Wings of Healing. In a sermon the minister will give tomorrow Wyatt also foresees space travel in the near future and "contact with other populated. worlds which are living under the benefits and blessings of the Kingdom of God." "I predict that beginning with 1960 we will begin to see a gradual awakening to the fact that Christianity is life, not religion, and that all things pertaining to life are spiritual," he said. . . . "I predict that in the days ahead there will be a definite breakthrough into the field of extra-sensory perception. The Church has long been blind to this spiritual resource and should earnestly begin to bring these slumbering faculties into operation." REPORT FROM JAPAN (Excerpts reprinted from "UFO" News Report, official organ of the Flying Saucer Research Group in Japan, P.O. Box 18, Isogo Post Office, Yokohama, Japan.)

"I GONE TO PLANET IRLAND (?) AND BACK BY A, SAUCER" SAYS JAPANESE' YOUNG BUSINESSMAN

A Japanese young electrical business man, Tsutomu Nagai of Tokyo, who claimed to had aboard a saucer and traveled to another solar system, the Planet Irland (?). This is a first time-Japanese claimed to have direct contact with space people, if it are true. Your editor (Far East Area Investigator for International UFO Observer Corps), accompanied by Mr. Teizi Ogawa, Mr. Ken Hashimoto, and Mr. Tsutomu Kuwada, directors of CBA (Cosmic Brotherhood Association-No. 775 Kokubunji, Kokubunji-oho, Tokyo) were visited his home and made interviewed with Tsutomu Nagai. His story? is as follows He gone fishing alone on March 26, this year (1959, Ed.) to Jyoetsu quarter of Gunma Pref., Central Japan, when he spotted a white illuminated 7 strange object in the sky and coming his side. It was a spherical object and suddenly it hovered near ground, at about 9 p.m. Then, a spaceman to be invited him from a window (?) so that he approached the craft while he take up a hand, when spaceman to respond also same pose and to point at the craft. It heared to a hum sound. "I don't know what I got on the craft-but, I just into the machine with him, after I have to noticed," said Nagai. The saucer contained only a crew of one. He questioned to spaceman in Japanese (he can't speak English) but him smiled and no answer. He questioned again in mental telepathy (he is member of occultism) as of follows Q. What a this craft? A. This is a called to spaceship. Q. What energy have used in this ship? A. It was a you may know. Q. Space travel by a rocket propulsion is that possible? A. Is not in possible. Q. What your name? ,(no answer) Q. Where do you come from? (no, answer) Q. Henceforth where we go? A. You may understand after landing of ship. Few minutes later, the spaceship were descending and hovers over planet fields. He looking out over these towns-the buildings are built in a. Circular pattern and have no electrical poles and wires. He questioned: "What is here?" Spaceman answered: "This is Irland-not your solar system" and he added : "Today, you are invited to a theatre."

The spaceship moved again, and just landed in roof of an big circular theatre. They got into the door of theatre, when in stage have already played something like a play of fairy tale. He looked round him in every direction. Planet Irland people is not different from our Earth people and somewhat like to the Japanese. They had seeing this play more about an hour and backed to spaceship. The return trip were he into the sleeping and to be awakened him later about a few minutes at the his branch office's garden in Gunma Pref. 8 INTERNATIONAL FLYING SAUCER SYMPOSIUM CBA has now planning to held at Tokyo in 1960, attending by many world's UFO researchers. Further information -please write directly to the CBA, No. 775 Kokubunji, Kokubunji-oho, Tokyo, Japan. MYSTERY BALL OF FIRE TRACKED BY RUSSIAN TRANSPORT According to the "PRIRODA" (Nature), the organ of the Science Academy of USSR, that, a Russian single-engine transport Li-2 fly over 90 km east of Komsomolskaya at an altitude of 3,300 m, when pilot and crew members saw a reddish mystery ball of fire, which came closer in left side to nose of the plane, suddenly the object exploded with flashing and sound... TWO UFOs OVER CHINA Mr. Mitsuru Futami and other three persons spotted two shell-shaped objects in the sky over Chiba City, at about 7 a.m. on April 6. It was whitish brilliant glow and one of the objects made zigzag movements and suddenly hovered about 400 m in the sky. Another one made flutter movements around above object and eventually two objects ascended in terrific speed facing to the sun, and disappeared in few minutes later. Made no noise. STREET-CAR PASSENGERS SPOTTED UFO Mr. Toshio Kishida of Yokohama and at least 5 persons spotted a white cigar-shaped object at a street-car through their windows, at noon of February 17. At about 1:55 p.m. the object appeared eastern sky suddenly made right turn, facing N and followed with street-car for about five minutes. It was about 7 cm long and very brilliant, altitude is appr. 5,000 m, said Mr. Kishida. (Ed. Note: The balance of the issue of the Japanese "UFO News Report" was taken up by 28 reports of sightings over Japan plus six others near Sumatra, Korea, Shanghai, Manila, Taipei and Hong Kong.) 9

THE INNER EYE IN OUTER SPACE

BY FRA PRUDENTIA Soon man-made space craft will be streaking across the vast emptiness of the universe in search of planets which are not even, visible to us here on earth, planets which have not as yet been detected on the most sensitive films used at the Palomar Observatory. These space vessels will be manned by human beings from earth who are motivated by an urge to search the vast regions of the unknown for data and information not now at hand. An analysis of their driving motivations might more clearly define the basic purpose of the project which we soon will be engaged in pursuing. A superficial explanation which might assume that the search is merely for new "scientific" data, does not appear to be conclusive. Nor does another which states that we are seeking to discover new patterns of the universal laws of physics. True enough, these are valuable byproducts of the real underlying motivating force which drives men to risk their lives by exposing themselves to unknown hazards beyond human imagination. But they are not

the real fundamental motives. Some fantastic science. fiction stories have tried to predict the circumstances which our earth pilots in space will encounter. Each adventure tries to depict experiences more horrifying than those previously published, and each seems to encounter some sort of supernatural "monster," or other weird forms of life. Despite the grim prospects envisioned, even the most ghastly of these tales contribute something to the vast supply of universal "understanding" common to the human race, by expanding thought horizons and encouraging constructive imagination. But let us accelerate our thought processes somewhat by using the Thinking Techniques which are explained in the textbook "THE POSITIVE WAY TO PRACTICAL RESULTS." Let us constructively analyze the thought forces involved in this basic premise situation, and obtain answers which even some of those privileged to ride the space vehicle might not comprehend. Those who have studied this textbook might want to stop here at this point and make their own analysis of the situation which. we are considering-and then follow this article. It will act as an interesting examination of what has already been covered in the text. 11 We agree with those eminent scientists who recently warned that in the United States, scientific research is frequently shackled by "conformism." Therefore, we stress at this time that all scientific endeavors deserve to be treated with professional respect. There are a number of people expounding concepts these days, and though we may not feel that they have always considered all the factors necessary to arrive at a sound factual conclusion, it is still well to respect their efforts and to realize that whether or not they have come up with the right answer, they have still contributed something, if only by stimulating others to think. One individual, who comes to our attention while considering this subject, advanced the idea that men are willing to encounter the dangers and hardships of outer space travel because they have an uncontrollable compulsion to propagate the species, homo sapiens, throughout the entire universe. This, of course, in an obvious extension of the fundamental Freudian concept, predicted upon the role of sex in human behavior. . However, it is far more probable that man is primarily motivated by the dilemma of an "exploding" population, and its "crowding" effects on this planet, a prospect that long ago gave rise to the European cry for more room in a shrinking continent. Nevertheless, the Freudian aspect cannot be written off lightly, for it is germane to man's strongest urges, and since it is the key to the ever, increasing teeming masses that inhabit the earth, both church and politics have now joined in the controversy to control it. Although sex motivations amongst bi-sexual organisms such as humans constitute a basic factor, it is obvious that the full and complex relationship to peopling the universe cannot be defined in this small space. A frank and revealing discussion of these interacting relationships will be given in a later article. While, of course, this aspect is of paramount importance, another factor sometimes overlooked by the untrained student is that all persons involved in outer space explorations will not necessarily be motivated by a single driving force. And the probable combination of forces involved will not necessarily be in the same proportion in all those who participate. Over simplification regarding this may, in the absence of

sufficient data, cloak fundamental truths, and lead to wrong conclusions and grave errors, if calculations are predicated upon prima facie evidence alone. 12 Therefore, a person who visualizes the possible prospects of eventually encountering the realistic problems which will be met in outer space travel, must learn to see beyond the obvious, developing a deep intuitive sense not wholly unlike the Oriental concept of the "inner eye." Thinking can then be as effortless as seeing-if the eye of the inner awareness illuminates the individual consciousness. To the analytical scientist, this may not be any clearer than to the average person. To some, this may seem like an impossible task. They may even, at first, feel that they do not have this "inner eye." But savants through all ages have seen far beyond scientific outposts, knowing that everyone has the capacity to use the complex thinking mechanism, benevolently given him, in psychophysical exploration and development. Like all precision instruments, it requires training to learn to use it fully. Some may prefer to stumble ignorantly and blindly along the jagged rocky road of life, rather than open their intellectual eyes and ride successfully up the highway to a richer destiny. If outer space is to be seen and understood, even by those who travel there, it will have to be observed not only in terms of academic data, but also. with the intuitive comprehension of the "inner eye." A further analysis of this subject will be given in forthcoming articles. EDITOR'S NOTE: The textbook "THE POSITIVE WAY TO PRACTICAL-RESULTS" by FRA PRUDENTIA is being made available to our readers as an aid in following this series of articles. We think you will find its approach to be truly unique, and its enlightening contents to be well worth the modest price of $2.50. Send direct for your copy today, to: IMPERIAL FOUNDATION, Dept. POET'S CORNER
THE GRADUATING CLASS OF EARTH The graduating class of earth should not be disturbed by the troubles of these last days. . As the angels sing, the Heavens resound with joy! Pure, holy ones of God,-thou shalt see, thou art free!

Here they come, washed pure through the fiery baptismal of suffering; standing now in wonderment of joyous and holy expectation of the now unknown; Fulfillment of the wonderment of God to come.

In yet a little while, no more pain,-no more loss, no more tears,-no more separation. Freed from slavery, FREE! FREE!

LIGHT! Endless joy, homesickness healed, longing satisfied; on to newer and higher experiences, in His vast and infinite kingdom of love.

Never to look back; joy to let go; Home at last! I feel thy yearning,-Oh God!-And respond.

I see a Hand outstretched; we reach-and nearly clasp. Yet a little while, Oh God! Yearn not.

LETTERS TO THE EDITORS

Toledo, Ohio Dec. 1, 1959 Dear Friends, Thank you very much for the Sept., 1959 Understanding magazine. I would greatly appreciate copies of all issues as they roll from the press in order to be completely informed about your important project. I liked this publication very well and the article about Hope Troxell's experience and the way the Headquarters program got underway is very inspiring. You are definitely on the way and more power to you. I wish your editor Dan Fry and the staff of Understanding publication and your office staff at Headquarters the very best success. I know it will be so. There is much to be done and by such constructive action as you have taken, it will be accomplished. This same type of program and activity should be repeated in every city in America and in other nations. I certainly hope that others will duplicate the type of project you have started in the various cities. There is a great need. As I see the need in our nation and in the world today; higher consciousness needs to be developed as rapidly as possible in all nations. This is a battle for survival which is easy to understand by just looking at the manifestation in the outer world all around us. It is higher consciousness and survival or elsedisintegration. There is no halfway measure available, it is all or nothing. The current scandals in the TV industry and the Payola record rackets are manifestations that lecturers in our' field have brought up time and again. There has been a grand attempt to materialize the thinking of people evident to any doubter who would not believe what we have been talking about. Why should America listen to raucous music when so much beautiful music is available? Why should the lowest type of programs be implanted on the public mind when so much of good and inspiration wants to be known? It has been said that "evil destroys itself" and surely this is happening today'! We are surely thankful that groups such as Understanding have seen the LIGHT and are doing something constructive,

Sincerely, Wayne S. Aho Washington, D.C. Saucer Intelligence 15 Dear Friends, ...The churches and their organizations set up for the study of peace and brotherhood are so highly organized and the ministers are so taken with their programs that it is going to be almost impossible to break through their tight wall and get them to take a look at Flying Saucers. If it is possible, units of Understanding could be set up in the various communities which would draw all types of people regardless of church affiliations and they would draw only those people who are interested. ... We could center our efforts on ,one organization. I know of no better one than Understanding and it covers so much more than just a saucer club. I just received a letter from Wayne Aho and he tells me that he is doing the same thing. It. made me smile when I read his words "I have come to a decision to do all possible to encourage and facilitate formation of Understanding Units all over." As the kids say "He took the words right out of my mouth." In fact, Mrs. Mowery and I had been discussing it before I received his letter. Great minds, and all that you know... Fraternally yours, W. S. Mowery Morongo Valley, Calif.

Oct.: 30, 1959

Dear Mr. Fry, Have just received and read the last number of Understanding and I wish to compliment you and your staff for its enlightenment. It has been my fate or destiny to enter the Larger Universal Understanding by the way of religious reading and study. First Swedenborg, then Lorber and Mayerhoffer of Germany and Austria, then Dr. Newbrough, who wrote the volume "Oahspe" and then Attorny Padgett. who gave the book "Messages of Jesus and Celestials." Now I find myself reading the writings of "so called" space persons. . . I have just finished the book -of. Will and Evelyn Miller titled "We 16

of the New Dimension," and found it the best so far in regard to what earth people should be doing at this time. To me, all these writings referred to above tie in together and it is now time for positive action not negative. We should do all in our power to "help the neighbor" see the new "age." This I have been somewhat successful in doing in my own locality and am still working at it. For some time, I have been able to picture all persons as spiritual beings, primarily, which spiritual individuality does not deviate far from the physical man we see every day. Oahspe gives us the picture of the "spirit world" so much needed by everyone. With these two pictures firmly fixed in the mind, we are no longer lost in the mire of materialism and can apprehend our duty to mankind. All you people now receiving messages from the world of spirit or Etherian put into a reality this picture. Again, I say, it all makes one scene. Establishing a headquarters in Pasadena is no doubt a good move and I wish you all success ... Let's all keep up the, good work, both from the religious side and the space angle: we are all more important than we probably realize. Sincerely yours, F. R. Brooks

c/o HEADQUARTERS
The Headquarters Office of International Understanding is now five months old, but in spite of its young age is quite grown-up and settled down. In fact, already its proud staff can be heard boasting a little now and then. That's because we have done so much and learned even more. For example, more than 2500 pieces of mail have been processed at our desks from all over the United States and the world, and have introduced us to many new things. We are now familiar with foreign stamps, translators, two-ton post office procedure books, foreign exchange notes of a stubborn, non-negotiable nature, and sixty-four dollar addresses, such as, Hauptstrasse Schliefffach Peissenberg OBB and Des Moines, Wash., just to mention a few. We even call the postmaster by his first name. Moreover, we can now answer with commendable calm when the 17 other end of the telephone says "KTLA calling," or "CBS," or even, "NEWSWEEK," and rarely do we comment lately when a letter addressed "Flying Saucers, Pasadena, Cal." falls directly into the mail slot at 313 E. Orange Grove. Above all, however, we are proudest of all the new friends we have found. We are counting them in the hundreds now, and each day more are added. They send us their greetings, suggestions, news, compliments, (and even their money, and we try our best to return the service they deserve. On the other hand, we have a few who exercise our diplomatic talents, like a Japanese friend of ours who insists that since we are a non-profit organization we should not charge him for books or anything else.)

Truly, we have learned that the bringing about of understanding is a full-time, midnight-oil-burning job, but we enjoy all of it, and only hope that all you wonderful people will continue to keep us active. -By LLOYD NEWLIN
