Report of the book IN TUNE (STUDENT BOOK) Contextualized We think that the material is contextualized to the objectives to the

curriculum, because according to the school, the authorities and the teacher, the curriculum is the book.

Linked to previous knowledge. The materials are not linked to previous knowledge of learners, because, as it is a book from the 1983, some of the vocabulary used in the lessons is very old. In some cases we found the word cassette and some of the students may not have a clear idea of what the item is. We also believe that the book is not linked, or it does not follow the sequence, because it is different from the series of books the students have been using all over the years. The students use from 1st grade up to 4th the same series of books take shape.

Cultural relevance The materials include little cultural relevance to the intended learners because; it mainly uses situations that are not very suitable for them (the learners). We think we are saying too much when the book says that is for adults.

Age related The materials are inappropriate for the age of the intended learners because, as the book is entirely focused on adults; the topics are related to their age and their understanding. There are some activities in which the activity says: pretend you are going to get divorced, that is not very likely to happen to a 5th or 6th grade student.

Provide situations for real communication The materials always provide situations that demand real communication because, there is always a section in every lesson in which the students are asked to write letters and use the language in real situations, like imitating a call or have some role play activities.

Interaction Materials sometimes promote interaction between students; this is like very often we think, because of the nature of the activities and tasks. Some of the activities ask the students to compare answers, ask questions and have a dialogue with another student.

Develop learning skills and starategies The materials include no elements to develop learning skills and strategies, none of the activities or units teach the students how to, for example, take notes when listening or reading, or to write down a summary.

Provides opportunities for self-evaluation The materials always provide opportunities for self-evaluation, we agreed to use this criterion because at the end of every lesson there is a section called test yourself so the students can have a test on their own knowledge and they have the answers at the end of the book.

Flexibility None flexibility is offered in terms of content because it is provided just one option to choose, we think that the tasks of the material do not give a lot of possibilities to use them in different ways, and they (the activities and tasks) have just one possible answer.

Learners level The materials are partially appropriate for the level of the intended learners, in some cases the units of grammar are really easy and enough for the students but some units are very challenging, we think that are more than challenging for them, they are just almost impossible to be reached by the students.

Attractiveness The materials physical appearance has been done with some care. Most look messy, because, and again, as the book is very old, the illustrations are just some drawings, and because they are misunderstood sometimes, the students may think that the pictures are not doing what they are intended to.
