001/07 RESETTLEMENT OF SHORT SENTENCE PRISONERS PROJECT

A project, based on the West of Midlands Region Connect project, is being established to investigate its potential of
national funding and roll-out. The project will be led by David Chantler, CO West Mercia.

003/07 OFFENDER MANAGEMENT: PHASE 1 STOCKTAKE

Phase I implementation began in April 2005 and all areas reported having completed it by the summer of 2006. A
year or so further on, the Phase I stocktake will run in every area with a view to being clear about the progress made
to date and identifying areas for improvement. The exercise will be conducted by self assessment using a standard
template.

004/07 NATIONAL STANDARDS FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF OFFENDERS

NOMS will issue a single set of standards for the management of offenders to replace all existing standards, the new
National Standards would follow the style of the NOMS Offender Management Standards. Guidance on
interpretation and implementation and detailed operational procedures are separated from the Standards
themselves.

006/07 PROBATION STAFF SECONDED TO PRISONS - STANDARDISING CONTRACTS

In the context of the roll out of the OM Model we are reviewing the role of probation staff seconded to prisons. One
strand of this is looking at standardising the contracts between prison establishments and probation areas to provide
greater consistency across England and Wales.
