PRESS STATEMENT For Immediate release:

20/06/2013

As the Governor of Nairobi County, I would like to take this opportunity to first of all restore confidence and good workmanship to the people of Nairobi as I work tirelessly to ensure that the face of Nairobi is upgraded to match the world standards of a City as well as attracting both local and international investors. I would also like to remind you that I took over from a dilapidated reign that stalled economic development, infrastructure, persistent corruption, lack of accountability and transparency, bad governance and poor service delivery to the residents of Nairobi. In my seven pillars of working strategy and implementation of service delivery as enshrined in the new constitution, I pledged to ensure consistent order to change the negative perception of residents towards the County office formerly known as the City Council of Nairobi. This change will begin by the County employees themselves. In this regard, I strongly condemn the unsolicited and disgraceful characteristics of the City County officers under the City inspectorate who were caught on Television cameras aired on K24-TV ON (20/05/2013).The said officers were seen extorting, battering and hurling abuses using unprintable words to the dismay of the public. It is also alleged that the officers were discharging their duties under the influence of alcohol and therefore unable to relate well with those who they are suppose to render their service to. I would like to disassociate the County Government from such unscrupulous behavior to the public and therefore in line with my campaign pledges , the City Askaris will be subjected to face thorough training to pave way for Metropolitan Police who will discharge duties to the public including control of traffic and maintaining law and order. Lastly, for the aforementioned officers I would like to take stern measures by suspending them with immediate effect until further notice. I would also like to warn any other officer against involving him/herself in such misconduct as it will attract tough penalties. ENDS Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero
