Seminar in Translation Informatics (TRST 70001) Final Presentation Due: December 4

(1) During the semester each of you began the analysis and design of a Translation Information System (TIS). You used methods and notations from OOA/D (object- oriented analysis and design) including UML (unified modeling language) Class Diagrams (and an informal Use Case Diagram) to capture data and process information conceptually (CONCEPTUAL DATA MODEL, PROCESS/LOGIC MODEL). (show the players of my sys)

. . .

(2) Then, using your UML Class Diagram you created an XML LOGICAL DATA MODEL that could be used as the basis, for instance, of a WEB APPLICATION. (3) For your final project I would like you to prepare a short PowerPoint presentation that discusses 1- Data Model and the TIS system you would like to see designed. 2- In other words, describe WHAT YOU THINK a TIS information system should include?

. Furthermore, we have set up an integrated translation information system from a combination of the Internet (Googling), hardware facilities, specialist translation software, project management software, a massive vocabulary and materials database, and translation memory system as well as communication system with our clients, thus guaranteeing the quality of our translation services. . .

(4) DISCUSS: (1) the MAJOR CLASSES of information that the TIS should

DEAL WITH (the new ones)

.

(2) the kinds of FUNCTIONALITY you think it should have, and (3) how you believe the UI (User Interface) or PRESENTATION LAYER should be designed. This is the three-part design model we started the class with (the classification of the slides): DATA, PROCESS, PRESENTATION.

(6) By December 4: Make a 10-slide (minimum) 15-slide (maximum) PowerPoint describing your envisioned TIS system. Summarize the important CLASSES, the important USER FUNCTIONS you think it should provide. Give us a view about how you think such a system should LOOK on screen. For the latter you can use screen shots of existing programs to show features you like or you can use a graphics programs or PowerPoint itself to mock up an interface screen. Use any technique you want to present your vision of a TIS system. The presentation doesnt need to be all-inclusive. Focus on the IMPORTANT CLASSES, FUNCTIONS, PRESENTATION features. Give us a VISION of what you think the ESSENTIAL features/aspects of your system are. For instance some of you may think integrating PROJECT information is crucial and you presentation may reflect that. Some of you believe leveraging CORPUS information is critical and you (TM would save time and effort, money to the institution) may emphasize that. Make this more of a sales/marketing presentation than a technical/software engineering one.
